  • Today we're back inside the fitting room...trying on different sizes at GAP! This was a highly recommended store based on their inclusive sizing (which is mostly, unfortunately, only available online). As a size 14, #midsize body, finding a good fitting pair of jeans can be stressful so I went to the Gap and did some investigating for myself! ENJOY LOVE U AND REMEMBER SIZE DOESNT MEAN SH*T XO

    Whenever I’m unsure of my size, I always start by trying on the bigger size, just because it makes me feel better if I can size down- and if the larger size fits, I don’t have the experience of trying on something too small.

    Have you tried Levi’s 721 high rise skinny jeans? I’m the same height and size as you. In Levi’s I wear a size 32 (14). They really compliment the good parts of my body. The quality is amazing and they’re worth the price. Try them if you haven’t yet. 🙏🏻

      I’m a 28 in almost every pair of jeans, but I recently ordered Levi’s in a 30 (because I have a big butt and thighs), and they so hilariously flattened my ass and would not button. I’m a 27 waist and 42 hips so I know I have a unique body shape, but I just want to have some cute cheeky straight jeans. Guess they’re just not made for me 🤷‍♀️

    • @beingashope
      @beingashope 5 лет назад +2

      schasse2011 I just bought my first two pairs a couple of days ago and I’m in awe. I got mine at Kohl’s and they had a BOGO deal going on so I got both for roughly $90. I’m over jeggings and really appreciate Levi’s thicker material and quality.

    • @beingashope
      @beingashope 5 лет назад

      kalliedoscope I’m usually a size 12 and I had to size up. Maybe you needed to try another size up because of your curvy figure. I’m curvy, but I’m not pear-shaped. The jeans really made my butt look nice. 😭❤️

    • @schasse2011
      @schasse2011 5 лет назад +2

      @@beingashope they're just so COMFORTABLE! i'm so happy with the two pairs I have. I think I got them for like 48 each? Not at the same time, it was from two different sales. I have never been a big fan of the jegging style jeans anyway, so these are so much better.

    I’m a gap girl through and through. I would recommend going to the factory store because I’ve learned they are much better with pricing and sizes for a mid size body. Also although the quality might seem the same as other stores I can attest that my gap jeans last me years whereas other brands rip in the thigh after only a few months of wear.

    Definitely my favorite brand will always be American eagle outfitters. Not only were they so pleasant to work for when I was a manager there but I love how inclusive their sizing is. Especially now that they carry up to size 22 in their store and size 24 online. It just makes me so happy that I can walk into the store and always find my size. I usually range between a 14 to a 20 (just the no stretch jeans). I hate going into a store and feeling insecure because I have to size up but the size isn’t available at all. I’m so glad you do these videos to show how inconsistent women’s sizing really is. Love you Carrie ❤️

    The Gap clearance section during their 50% off sales items deal is the BEST deals, I've bought jeans for $2.50 there, most jeans are $15-$20 though in the clearance section so the 50% off makes them around $7.50-$10 and they're amazing quality pants so I love shopping their sales section in stores!

    New subscriber here (found you through Sierra Schultzzie), going through your old vids. When I was plus sized (22/24) I wanted to shop at Old Navy (which is a Gap affiliate) but I couldn’t because they didn’t carry my size in store and it was so discouraging because it just made me feel like my body was the problem. I started buying from them when I discovered they had extended sizing online. I recently lost a lot of weight and went down to a 14/16 and I felt so good when I could buy their clothes in store (which is pretty messed up, right?). I’m still on my weight loss and health journey and it is really hard when I would try on clothes (really anywhere) and it would be a bigger size than I thought that I was supposed to be in. So this whole ramble is to say thank you for making your videos because I’m starting to realize and teach myself that it’s not me or my body that’s the problem- it’s stores and inconsistent sizing. Thank you!

    GAP has fantastic sales though! 98% of my closet is Gap Tall. Everything fits so perfect on my 6'3" frame. I feel like they used my exact proportions when making the tall patterns. It's the most amazing feeling to order clothing and not have to worry about it fitting properly. Every single size Large Tall and every single size 12 Tall fit me perfect. It's so freaking amazing to have clothes that fit well without compromising on the style aspect.

    Just FYI: gap online almost *always* has a 40% (or higher) sale going on. Also, there’s usually an ebates (Rakuten) offer for cash back. I’ve gotten good jeans there for $30ish dollars by utilizing sales and cash back offers. It actually puts Gap jeans in the very affordable category. Also works for Old Navy, who’s also stepped up their denim game. Also also, it’s great if you need to stock up on kids clothing and shoes!

    I had the same experience at the gap this summer!! Only tried 2 different pairs (in 3 different sizes) then decided I didn't want to give my money to a company that caused so much dressing room anxiety!! Thanks for making me feel less alone!

    Gap is my fav thrifted jeans! Ten dohlars for high-rise dark-wash skinny jeans! They’re everything and make me so happy. Thrift stores where I’m at always have Gap jeans.

    I really find with gap jeans they stretch after a wear or two so I always have to size down and than they’re perfect once you wear them a couple times!

      Old Navy is inclusive but I still wish they'd carry size 24 in store and extra long jeans. ☹️ But I did gain hella weight so 🤷🏻‍♀️😂😂

      Melissa Harris I’ve had some Old Navy jeans and dresses for over 5 years now. If you take care of and properly wash them according to the care label, Old Navy clothes do not fall apart fast. They’ve always lasted me forever

      @rosebraun8341 5 лет назад

      Adrienne ThatsMe they are owned by the same company and the clothes are pretty similar but the price gap is ridiculous. gap is a bit better quality but i couldn’t justify it

    • @joliz5489
      @joliz5489 5 лет назад +2

      Rose Braun for the tiny bit of quality increase through gap, you might as well go to old navy and pay half price or less for them to last like...a month..less??? And if you get their stuff on sale (which stuff always is) you’re paying WAY less than half of gaps pricing.

    I love these videos because not only is it so important to normalize midsized bodies but the size discrepancy in American retailers. I constantly feel shame for being a bigger size in one store than another when I prefer the look and feel of those clothes simply because of A NUMBER. Just because we are mid/plus sized doesn't mean we can't rock the same size as "standard" sizes. The end. Anyways, thanks for coming to my rant, and more importantly, THANK YOU Carrie for making these videos because I know how hard it is to put yourself in the uncomfy position, but you are helping so many people because of it!

    The high waisted distressed ones you tried on with the raw hem bottoms and “above the knee” holes... love. I was getting an ad for gap jeans constantly and it always had those and I wanted them sooo bad. But I’ve never tried GAP and I can’t justify spending $80+ on one pair of jeans.
    They looked awesome on you though!

    The more inclusive sizing being stocked only online allows there to be more options overall- because rather than having to have stock to have enough pairs for every location to have a few pairs, they basically can stock them in one “store” (their e-commerce) which means rather than there being, for example, 500 pairs of the same style of size 20 jeans spread over every store in the country, they can have say 50 pairs of 10 styles. It also stops the issue of all the stock in certain sizes selling out at some locations and others rarely selling those sizes so having lots and centralizes the inventory so everyone in those sizes has more selection.
    I also hear you that actually being able to go in and try on those sizes is important- but that’s the thinking ❤️

  • @aliciamarra-maguire2855

    FYI....A regional manager once told me that you can be 3-4 different sizes in jean depending on the dye they use (dark, medium, light etc) and that you should never use your jean size as your “pant” size. I think this accounts for the discrepancy of sizing in jeans, even within the same store. Hope this helps with the confusion!

    I swear by GAP, despite the price (as a midsize person). I used to always get American Eagle jeans, but I was lucky if they would last a season without wearing out in the thigh (not to mention, that was back in high school when I had a uniform and didn’t wear them on the daily). I started getting GAP jeans a couple years ago, and they last me so much longer! I took a pair to Italy almost a year ago, and wore them almost everyday for 5 months straight- they were 1 of 3 pairs of pants I had brought- and they haven’t worn through yet! I find that, for skinny jeans, the curvy fit works best for me (although those only come in mid rise, but I am only 5’ 2”, so the mid rise hits me perfect)

      From what I've heard, Everlane doesn't carry extended sizing in store :(((( I still need to get to the bottom of that, though! I'm thinking an online try-on might need to happen if that's the case!

    I love the cheeky straight jeans (aka the last one's you tried on)! I have them in 2 washes. They get even better after you wear them and totally give you the relaxed fit that's so in right now. I usually wait until they're doing the "friends and family" sale cause it's 40% off and an additional 10% off online. The best jeans I've ever owned 🙌
