i agree 100%. we need to stop viewing people from other lands as foreigners or strangers, stop viewing animals as dumb beasts, stop viewing trees and forests as barriers to development. for us to survive we must live in harmony with all living species on earth, allow diversity to spread. Currently we have our hands around mother natures throat, and our grip is getting tighter by the minute

Simply Awesome! I have always said the human species at our core - the heart - is made of compassion. However, our minds are completely flawed by how we perceive the world due to bad educations.

I don't believe that everyone can make the empathic leap from caring for ourselves to caring for the whole planet and everything on it. But I do believe that we can make enough people feel this empathy to make a difference; to change what we're doing to something better. I have to believe this: I am a Socialist Libertarian, or Anarchist by another name. I believe deeply that we can make a planet which is good for everyone, not just the .1%. And empathy is the way.

"We human beings, who are softwired for empathetic stress, is it possible we could extend our empathy to the entire human race?"
Why stop there? If we look at a dog that is suffering, don't we also feel bad? Non-Human animals should be included in this circle of compassion as well.
    Otherwise, great video! =)

Yep, our brains are "wired differently" than those of "earlier humans," and while our brains are still much the same, our minds are very different. (Namaste Lewis Mumford)

We're all the same race, there's different cultures, religions and skin color. But we're all the same race. There are no racists, only hateful idiots.

Think deeper, think further. All life on the planet evolved from the same place. This means we’re distant cousins of all animals and even plants. All life on the planet is family!

Yes , May be Empathic Civilization is opposite of Utopia. But not as said by in the video at 8.00. Empathic must need to reach or make the Utopia society where no pain to biological human society for happy and peaceful life. Although, we all knew that reaching that level from this materialistic world not that easy or may not possible with current mindset and complexity around us, may need different leadership style. However, at the same time, we should not stop working towards the Utopia society by saying that it is not possible or empathetic society is opposite of Utopia society. We knew that Siddharth Gautama Buddha, Mahavir Jain, Jesus Christ, Mohan Das Gandhi and others tried, and we all know that what status is now we all are, to change this world to peaceful one, that doesn't mean that the leaders and others should not work for changes, if added in that then it really good. I believe that empathetic society lead to Utopia society.

Excellent video. Could it be that there is hope for the continuation, and the eventual elevation of the human species to a higher level than that of an insatiably, greedy, destructive, homicidal ape? "Wouldn't it be luverly" .

Human nature is what? Does Rifkin describe human nature? Let's pretend we are from the Show-Me State, Missouri. Pretend we are from the Lone-Star State, Texas. What if we were from the Volunteer State, Tennessee. How about The Last Frontier, Alaska. Are we sincere and capable? Are we abled by skills, knowledge and experience? If so, show me, put it in my hand. To live outside the proverbial box is to live on the frontier. Is that possible...to live that sort of story?

Anything such as religion has been comprised by thought what you think you know is a product of culture and or society so it's all thoughts of others passed down to uphold the continuation of the culture and or societies world wide. People need to wake up to this fact. Even the language you speak is politics a passed down way of communicating. So, NO thought is your own thought. So, now id you say but your are using these same thoughts to write this post, and yes I am as this is the only language you will understand.
