I picked my first padlock today ! it is a 2 dollar flea market lock. looks like a master number1 but has high security printed on the rubber piece. My dangerfield praxis kit arrived just minutes before picking it ! First kit and first lock, TODAY WAS A GOOD DAY.
Both are very much so subjective with what is more for you. But please try out every avenue of Lock Manipulation. Find what best suits you, I found that I like to use some of everything. From Raking, Wriggling, Zipping, Rocking, Bitching, Bipassing and whatever else I can come up with in a snap. Happy Pickin!!

Have you thought about connecting a monitor up to your camera so you aren't straining with the little LCD display? I think also the camera, if it's like mine, has trouble focusing if there's more than 40% background to foreground ratio. What I learned to do to get it to refocus was bring the objects way in, like too close, and then out again. This deals with the foreground/background issue promptly. Thanks again for keeping your videos regular, learned so much from them in such a short time. I cant wait to send you a challenge lock!
John Baker This will be Mechanical Engineering Certificate II here at TAFE NSW in Sydney. I already have 95% of Certificate III as I'm a Toolmaker, so 80% of it should cancel out and I just have to do the locksmith specific modules. Passing this one with full distinctions if my expectations are accurate.

Zerobrine /anon the southord 14 or the tuxedo are great, southord is probably better for new pickers you just cannot break em but once you get better get some sparrows single picks and a case from them
The sparrows EOD kit is nice, and so is the new Dark shift. Either will serve you well and, even better, are available in Australia from the authorized sparrows dealer, Pickpals. Postage in Australia and NZ are apparently free!
Bill, why don't you use shims for disassembly more often? With challenge locks you often have T pins which can get stuck in the groove for the circlip and then there are the plugs that look like skeletons.

The master 150 contains 4 spools and one standard pin. NOT a good lock to start with, even difficult to SPP sometimes. Get yourself a Master #3. Follow the lock picking "university" on the website and you'll learn a little faster than jumping straight to complex locks.

No problem. If you look up the American Lock Service Manual, close to the end is a page showing the different keyways that its padlock cylinders come in, and the Peterson bypass tools might not work in some of those keyways. Any American padlock compatible with their padlock cylinders can be set up with any of those single-sided keyways, if I'm not mistaken.

makomifune What do you mean by bump pick?? If sounds like some of the different types of rakes and wrigglers out there. But if you are looking to make a pick I say go for it. That is how most are developed.
I see what you mean, and you would only need the bottom rake if there were pins on bottom. The only locks with pins on both top and bottom besides wafer locks are zise or cross cruciform locks. But it would still work in a wafer lock.

Actually it's probably because RUclips (or whatever chooses the thumbnails) decided to show the Dog. It's probably because the Dog is at the end of the video and it might have been the default setting for this. BTW The dog looks alright to me. It appears to have got wet and is shaking itself.

makomifune Look at his "How to kinetic attack" video. This uses the same principle as bump keys, except picks are used instead of a key.
