I knew I'd forgotten something when I published this ! I meant to go back through and do that because my own were triggering when I was editing it. Sorry about that!
Just watched your video: - Clicked on like - subscribed - ordered a Home Assistant Green - will get cloud subscription - will debloat my highly disfunctional Google Home and only keep speakers and displays to control some of the HA exposed devices and scenes. Automations will all go into HA instead.
Excellent video. About to set up HA. When HA detected for example hue devices, can you now go and remove your hue account, or do you keep both hue and HA environments? Could you in theory have disconnected from Hue and then started with their devices? Most of my devices are smartlife/tuya, some wifi some via zigbee hub, wondering if can disconnect everything beforehand.
Thanks Adam. Very interesting and useful. I have a number of questions but the one that's puzzling me is How do you get the data for Energy ie what is the source of the data for Solar? I'm a total newbie but I'm keen to get into it. Thanks
Thankyou for a great tutorial. i have one question could you explain how you use the "push notification critical" you don't show your screen not sure where that command goes...
Good tutorial! The only thing I'd recommend is when saying "hey Google" you might mute your audio and put the text or subtitles on screen. This video was making my Google speakers go nuts lol.
Excellent tutorial. I am new to HA and this helped me set it up on a Raspberry Pi 4. I have about 18 shelly units to switch various things in the house and garden but am unable to see them. They are all linked to my TP-Link Deco M5 mesh system. This is connected to a 24 port TP Link switch which is where the Raspberry Pi and modem are connected. I have tried the Shelly integration and tried putting in the ip address for one of the Shelly relays but they fail to connect. Do they need to be connected to the modem wifi rather than the mesh wifi. Be grateful for your help with this..
This looks simple, HA installed ok but on my network I found my smart plugs were not supported and to get them to work looks like it requires some complex configuration at the least.
If you love tinkering HA is for you. Not advocating for any of the technology out there to this date but there are much simpler solutions that don't require you to learn different OSs and command lines and such or have 10 adapters sticking out of a box to work. Most devices now a day work with other home assistants with different protocols and they are a lot easier to setup, of course anything depending on online/offline connections will have hiccups every so often but for the most part they are reliable to a degree. Just my 2 cents and I owe one to Uncle Sam! 😅🤣😂
@adam thanks for this video. I was able to get my Pi setup and running. So cool. I have a problem though. I have several Aqara devices and it doesn't seem to "auto discover". Do you have any tutorials to help add my Aqara devices? I am an Android guy so no Home Kit.
Hey, Brother... This looks like a solid video for a NOOB like me... and I truly appreciate it. However, I would STRONGLY request that you add chapter markers to your videos, as (if this is your "standard quality" of instruction... they will go from already fantastic... to AMAZING and wondrously more utilitarian.
Very good video... One thing though... You should bleep out the "hey google" stuff so it isn't activating on everyone's devices. That was a little annoying.
Hi, I'm planning to move from google home to home assistant. All my devices are managed by their vendors' apps and linked to google home. Will they be recognized and managed by Home Assistant? Or should I unlink them first or even enter pairing mode? Thanks!
It'll depend on the device. Home Assistant can co-exist with other apps usually but I avoid it because it can be fairly confusing when you don't know where configuration is for certain things. The main thing I don't put in Home Assistant directly are scenes in Philips Hue - I manage the scenes within the Hue app and then trigger them from HA.
Fantastic Video - just want I wanted to know, as was toying with what to do with a spare Raspberry Pi and didn't know much about Home Assistant. Now I do :-) Thanks. Quick Question - I have a Pi 3 Model B - How much is the minimum for the SD card ? Is 16 GB enough ?
16GB is likely fine to begin with. You might want to upgrade if you have many devices or want to store a lot of history. It's fairly easy to just migrate by taking a backup of the old card and restoring it onto a new one. If you have a busy home, you might even want an SSD (adam.ac/blog/raspberry-pi-home-assistant-from-sd-card-to-ssd/)
Nice material. Really helpful and informative. I think this topic actually needs a few long format videos. 20 min would be just too compressed and skip useful things. Things beginners can get stuck on. I have a question for you. Do you know if a product that can be used to monitor if a non smart device is turned on. Something like a smart power clamp that can report when someone has turned on a fan for example. It could alternatively be a sort of relay but rather than switch a thing on it would just report if a line is live. Really interested to hear what you might suggest. Thanks again.
Really amazing and super useful video! just getting started setting up home assistant on my NAS so I can learn how to use it and deploy it for use in my off grid home. Quick question: where is your home energy and solar generation data coming from? Something like a Shelley EM? or is that a feed from your charge controller and inverter, etc?
The energy data comes from a few sources. It that video it was mostly coming from Shelley EMs but also from smart plugs and from external APIs (myenergi). I have since had a Powerwall installed and I'm just using the data it provides there now. I still have some EMs for monitoring individual devices like the Cooker and Heat Pump.
Unfortunately I had to stop watching this very well presented and informative RUclips post due to the very loud fill music ... you have to turn down the volume at the spoken content only to have to turn the volume back up again to hear the great dialog. The difference between the dialog and the background is far too great.. Shame ... I'm not deaf.
seemed like good info video but I stopped watching after 10 minutes, really don't need to watch all the waiting time and BS. you have a way of explaining but sorry man, you are dreadfully wordy.
Disappointed in your video. Can you install it WITHOUT using a raspberry pi? I'm sure not many people want to go through all that by having to purchase those accessories.
Maybe next time show more of what you are doing than showing you doing something. It's really annoying to see you talking but not seeing the screen instead. Voted down.
Just followed your guidance step by step and kept pausing, but it’s worked perfectly. Thank you for the video.
Word of advice. Mute out the word "hey" when you say "Hey, Google". You were turning off and on my own personal devices. : )
I knew I'd forgotten something when I published this ! I meant to go back through and do that because my own were triggering when I was editing it. Sorry about that!
Excellent video on basic home assistance, Very Informative.
This video was amazingly helpful. Cannot believe it doesnt have 100x more views.
Thanks! I'd take 100x more views!

you are so funny. masking of that butt middle lining was super funny😂

simple and sweet explanation..Thank you bro

a quick question, do i need smart devices in order to connect them with the home assistant, like your lamp there?
Excellent video - very thorough!
I just like this guy

Your videos are so well made :)

am thinking of creating a voice activated home assistant that can keep my reminders, home phone call logs and other things. now i see where to start.

Video is very helpful to many peoples thanks
Thanks for the detailed explanation. How can I get that dashboard background?
Would a Raspberry Pi 3 work or do you need the latest model ? Thanks

okay maybe trying this on a raspberry pi zero w wasn't such a good idea. its been installing for 3 hours...
what is the power switch button used in the video ??
Is it possible to get integration with voice assistants without paying?
Gets stuck on Preparing Home Assistant. waited an hour only to realize that the pi was stuck in a Error 500 loop during discovery mode

Take a look at "shelly em clamp". it reports to HA , there are a number of similar options
@@rrrrrrrr290 thanks. I have since found the Shelly kit but have not found the right one yet. Much appreciated.
Nice name you have the too 😁
Good one
Hello, what rasbberry pie ut has to be?
Setting up https would be a useful video I have found this impossible to do

Very nice but the SD card will fail in a short time, and is very slow, you need to use an SD hard drive! For long life.
Basics? You imported everything from Philips Hue. How is that BASIC?
plz tell me Alexa integration for free

Tnx for the video, but you turned off and on things in my house, while I watched. Please beep out "ok google" in post production next time 😂
Can I use a arduino intead of a rasberry pie?
No.
Watch this if you can’t deal with Paul’s foolishness

Come on mate, mute the "hey Google" command, wtf?
Get rid of that stupid music….

Nabu Casa should pay you
