    For previously active young people who develop POTs after a period of illness or injury which necessitates a period of bedrest (2 weeks bed rest can do it) POTs usually just slowly resolves as they get mobile and back into life. It’s easy to attribute this recovery to whatever approach the recoverer focusses on - in this case positivity. Did the positivity help - sure. But this young woman would probably have recovered anyway because that is the natural progression of this illness at her age. Others have a genetic predisposition to POTs and other associated co-morbidities (eg. Hypermobility form of Ehlers Danlos Syndrome that affect the ability of blood vessels to contract appropriately when standing up). Again they tend to be previously high achievement/high functioning but they develop POTs later in life and their disease tends to be chronic. Peaking round menopause then improving but not resolving. Using a positivity cures all is a way of protecting oneself from feeling compassion for those with chronic illness our current medical knowledge has no cure for. The autonomic nervous system is vast and can malfunction in a vast number of ways. POTs is a term that covers anyone with a fast pulse on standing. It is highly likely that there are multiple causes of this and hence multiple possible outcomes.

    This video is excellent. It hits home because mental illness runs in my family, I've always dealt with anxiety and in recent years have struggled with depression. I am definitely interested in checking out the book she mentioned. Thankfully I've always been surrounded by the church who have spoken words of truth over me and have had faith for me and with me. I agree with Leah about the power of the church. It's in those hard times we can allow the church to be the church to us 💕

For the first few weeks before being diagnosed, I was so scared not knowing what was going on that I was in the same boat - just barely surviving. It was awful

    I think this video and the conversation you're having is super important to be having and valid, but I do want to point out that POTS can be caused by a myriad of different things besides a one time incidence. For me for example, I have an underlying autoimmune condition that is continuing to damage my nerves. That is not something that I can work to heal unless I stop the nerve damage from worsening. So I just want to point out the diversity in experience and cause for people with POTS and really all illness.

      Hi Molly, sorry that you're going through that. And you're right, all experiences are different, that's why I made that disclaimer in the beginning of the video. Hope you get better soon. Thanks for watching!

      Agree! I 100% agree pots can be cured if it was caused by trauma or some sort of trigger like that, but if there is an underlying cause then no. This reminds me of the DNRS program based on neuroplasticity!

    • @redheadedfreckles2
      @redheadedfreckles2 5 лет назад +3

      No......you can heal. Autoimmunity isn't a factor in POTS. You CAN overcome POTS!! If you Believe you can't then you Can't. Change your mind.

    • @kateburger2001

      my POTS specialist says that my POTS started due to hormones, which is the reason a lot of girls my age are given when they get diagnosed with POTS. they told me that as i got older my hormones would become stable and my POTS would go away, which has happened with a lot of POTS patients that have gotten through it. if that truly is the reason i and lots of others have POTS there is no way to think your hormones into fixing themselves. if that was the case every person going through puberty would end their mood swings.

    • @iheartflying
      @iheartflying 2 года назад

      @@redheadedfreckles2 I’m sorry, but are you a doctor? Where did you read that autoimmunity is not ever a factor in POTS? And regardless, people get POTS for many reasons. Even if it’s not autoimmune for one person that doesn’t necessarily they can just cure themselves simply if they “believe” they can.

Acknowledging the science behind why and how our brain does what it does makes me feel empowered that I too may overcome the challenges I’m facing. I’m not sure if this question could be answered, but would Leah recommend support to play the positivity game? She mentioned discipline, something I’m severely lacking in. I feel like I need someone to hold me accountable to progress to a better place!

    Some of this can be taken as kind of dangerous information. I do think there is some truth to positve thiking and prayer, etc but some brain injuries aka concussions are more severe and complex than your personal one that you experienced and so your experience is great to hear but definitely not applicable to everyone who has a completely different set of variables. So if you are out there with a concussion that is not returning you back to baseline and positive thinking isn't getting you anywhere please keep searching, and get on groups on social media to explore more treatment options that can work for you.

I’m an athletic injury corrective and conditioning expert, and salsa dancer. I’m on Kelly’s page to get my curls back, because i don’t have the energy due to POTS, to look better and this page has helped me make me feel about my appearance,... so stumbling on this video was pleasantly shocking.
