i feel so bad that so many of these people don’t know like ALL their songs. if i saw these kids live i’d like. die. i’d be so excited screaming & shouting every word to every song. they deserve smmmm moreeee they r amazing
I think the problem with MGMT, is that the media, the journalists and photographers and such, always put Andrew at the forefront, because he's the gorgeous one. However, I think that every one of them is as important as the others. Ben and Andrew write and perform the songs on the albums, yes, but live every one of them plays their parts. And even on the albums, Ben and Andrew do all the sounds together, it's not just Andrew singing, and Andrew himself doesn't focus only on the main singing parts. MGMT is like that, it's lots of tiny parts put together to form a whole that sounds great. I think that if people listened to this concert as a whole, and not just as Andrew singing with some backup music, you wouldn't be so bothered by the fact that his voice is not so prominent, if that makes sense. And that is not helped by the fact that the traditional place for the main singer is at the front of the stage. I think that if they were placed in a row, for example, or at least if Andrew was a little less focused on, it would be a lot less difficult to apprehend (like look as sometimes James or Ben do some great solo parts and they're not even filmed !). Sorry for the VERY long text, had to have it out, thanks if you read it ;)
i agreeeee. mgmt does their vocals last anyway, and i have the feeling they really value the music over their singing. so even though andrew is the lead singer, the attention shouldn’t really be on him
I think this is a general statement to anyone that doesn't understand why live performances are so enjoyable. MGMT aren't unique in the fact that the main vocalist doesn't carry the whole band, I'd say any decent band kind of requires most members to be contributing something. But I agree people need to stop putting all the focus on the vocalist and remember that they're human, they change over time and you can't expect them to sound the same as they did whenever they recorded the song they're performing.
If I didn't know any better I'd say these guys were straight outta the 70s. Also, I wonder if the keyboard section in the middle of Siberian Breaks is SUPPOSED to sound like Out of Touch by Hall & Oats or if that's just a coincidence. I've thought that for years lol
My Highlights: Time to Pretend 5:20 (arguably their best song) Flash Delerium 19:14 (great song and this is a good version) Alien Days 55:52 (nice finish to show. underrated song, better live than in studio)
flash delirium is one of those songs that continues to get better and better as it goes on
Couldn't agree more

54:18 Matt Asti was like: thank god it wasn't me
