We commissioned a lot of new Ericsons. Good boat, but that California heat often created print through. I always encouraged buyers to stick to white hulls, but this looks pretty fair. Great job, Frankie.
Hey Frankie,Thanks for making the video. On this Erickson 38 can you share with me how much Awlcraft 2000. Can you give me a rough idea of how much product was required to paint this flag blue? For example 1 gal of paint + 2 quarts of Converter, etc. I search the guide and it says 500 SF then eludes to 220 SF so not sure, that boat looks around 250 SF. Your answer to this question would be so useful coming from real experience.
It really all depends on the conditions projected for that evening. Last night was a low of 53 and it was windy so I wasn’t worried about it blushing. If it was going to get colder or no wind last night, then I might have added accelerator to the paint. But it was not needed. Generally this time of year you want to be done spraying by 3 PM, if no accelerator is being used. If it’s going to be later in the afternoon before finish and then you would want to use accelerator so it would cure up quicker and not blush. Hope this helps.
Thanks you for sharing your experience with us. Your videos are very informative and inspiring. I have enjoyed learning more in every video you post. On this project, can you share how much of the flag blue gallon you used? Looked like you started with about half a gallon. Thanks
I started out only mixing up a half gallon of base. When I got to the last coat, I mixed up another quart just to ensure I didn’t run out. I had a little bit left over when I finished spraying. Better to have too much then not enough mixed lol.
OK, found the same gun and plan on buying the 2000 flagblue for my 36 foot sailboat, but I just discovered that I need to have a compressor that is at least 13cfm, outch this would be over a 1k investment. thoughts?
Not that you asked me...but, United Rents or your local rental shop would be best bet if you're only shooting paint on occasion. They'll also have moisture separators and filters.
@@saltyseabee6160 Thanks for chiming in, I am thinking of buying a 60 Gal 220 v compressor, maybe I will like it, otherwise sell it after the job I am thinking it would be cheaper in the long run giving me more freedom with its availability.
Nice work I enjoy your videos. I’ll be painting a Tiara 5200 this spring in Aristo Blue. Do you ever use a clear coat on top of color? Or color stand alone is good enough?
The only problem with clear coats are, you'll have in a few years clear wash outs if you want to use clear then on your last coat mix the clear with your color as a 75 / 25 percent, 75 percent color and 25 percent clear. Your color will be a bit brighter and have a deeper look to it with out the clear coat washing out. ie look at all the 5 year old cars and older with the clear coat yellowing and washing out.
I taught Frankie dad and have helped Frankie when he was getting started. And now the teacher has become the student. Frankie's one of the best in the marine world.
Really enjoy watching your videos - a real professional. I’m in California and looking to get my 30 foot Back Cove painted - most likely Awl Craft Flag Blue. What would you charge for a 30 foot boat? Would like some way to compare prices out here. Thanks
Thank you so much!
Another Great Show. Thank you sharing your time and many talents! all the best.... Chuck
Awesome job Frankie !!!!

You da man!!
The guy is a beast
Very nice, next one go for awlcraft 3000, but try no to use a wood stick to mix your paint!!
🙈
Incredible. How can I get you to paint our boat this summer? Please.
Where are you located?
@@boatpaintingrestorationwit3029 We're in ft lauderdale now moving a boat north to RI next week. It will come back down at the end of summer.
What does it cost to repaint a 50ft sailboat blue like this video; including hull prep?
How long can the paint sit after mixing? As in, is a new batch mixed after each coat?
Looks great, learned a lot from your videos. You helped me improved my finishing. I have a quick question, what psi do you set your accuspray to?
What type of outdoor temps do you need for that job?
Pretty work Sir, question, what time is too late to finish painting awl craft 2k, and how are you able to keep them from blushing?

Where are you at in Florida I'm going to be out your way in a couple of weeks and as long as I'm out that way I'd like to stop by and say?
Sorry got cut off I like to stop out there and say hello?
Morning mark. I am in Virginia. Lol. Long ways from Florida.

@@tommyhill8795 Sounds like good advice! That is probably hard to repair if required? Maybe I’ll just stick with color based on results!
