वित्तीय संघर्षों के साथ चुनौतीपूर्ण परिस्थितियों में पले-बढ़े, बिजेंद्र कुमार को तमाम कठिनाइयों का सामना करना पड़ा क्योंकि उनका परिवार एक छोटी सी दुकान चलाता था और वह घर-घर सब्जियां बेचते थे. हालांकि, IIT परीक्षा को क्रैक करने की तीव्र इच्छा से प्रेरित होकर, उन्होंने अपने सपने को पूरे दिल से आगे बढ़ाने का फैसला कर लिया था. शुरुआत में ITI और IIT के बीच उलझे बिजेंद्र ने आखिरकार IIT पर अपना ध्यान केंद्रित किया और इसे अपने जीवन का एकमात्र लक्ष्य बना लिया.
