I totally agree with you!!! In my opinion the most important European Jazz Drummer ever!!! And i think there have must be a relevant reason for Jarett who played before with American drummers to pick up these European Cats and create a music which is so different from the typish American stuff he did before. And Jon Christensens drum style is the thing that made this " Hell of a Band" so unique!
@@uweheitz5835 You mean Paul Motian and Jack DeJohnette did/do "typish" (whatever the foink that means) American stuff? Let me tell you something, Uwe. Jazz IS American. Don't you forget it.
@@38bogos What I said has nothing to do with possession. It has to do with origin and identity. If you go back and read, you'll note I took exception to the phrase "typish American stuff", as there is no such thing. As a matter of fact, the implication in that post was the Keith's Euro Quartet was superior to his Standards Trio and American Quartet simply because the drummer was NOT American. Ridiculous.
For me one of the greatest quartets in jazz-absolute magic through and through. Few groups seem to have matched them in passion and creativity since they produced this beautiful music some 45 years ago!
not exactly my cup of tea, but undoubtely a great group - probably (with earlier quartet with Motian, redman and Haden - taht's closer to my taste) Jarret's best season (and a great Jan Garbarek... and Palle Danielsson!! what a bass player....)
You won't find a better video-registration of Keith's pure attitude towards music, he speaks with his body. With Jan, Jon and Palle a real legendary quartet.
Count your blessings....I was very fortunate to have witnessed Keith live in 1973 and 1974 at the Lighthouse in Hermosa Beach with obviously his American group (Dewey, Charlie, and Paul)...what an amazing group....and now sadly Keith is no longer able to perform...fortunately Keith has left us with a rather large body of work...with which we can still be enthralled by his genius and his mastery.
Timeless music. I remember at the time what a revelation Garbarek's sound was. This and the "American quartet" both the zenith of Jarrett's group work, I think anyway.
I agree and that group and those albums proved what an awesome composer Keith was. But I'm here to mourn the passing of Jon... my drum inspiration for 4 decades
the mine is the 180th comment about matter, and is only to guarantee that the 179 before mine are 100 per cent shareable. I'm very happy that so many people consider this music and his performers as i'm doing. Fabio1956
The record was probably the first Jazz album aroused me so much( in my high school days). 44years since then, it still do ! I want to thank this video up.
It's really crazy to see that Garbarek was already playing with the same talent as in 2020 ... 46 years ago !!! I've been playing the saxophone for 25 years and I can't seem to keep my ankle !!!
...love the Joni-love. The greatest overall artist of the past couple of centuries. Her painting, poetry, guitar playing, and compositions -- the total canon - are without equal. And the most underrated guitarist ever. Genius, at least.
This first tune is just magic. Perhaps the happiest song I have ever heard. I have poked around for Keith Jarrett & Jan Garbarek stuff in the same vain but no luck. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

The cymbal textures of Jon Christensen define the ECM sound palette. One of the greatest jazz drummers of all time!
No argument there...truly a giant.

Ce merveilleux quartet illustre à lui seul cette vérité qui sait que la beauté finit toujours par vous rattraper. Pure poésie, seul antidote…

RIP Palle
RIP Jon Christensen. I learned a ton about subtle complex playing listening to these albums over and over and over and over again.
I would feel like such a stud if I could make a woman feel as good as Keith Jarrett’s piano makes him feel
RIP Jon Christensen!
I always loved this particular ensemble. Very cool to see a video of them. It's treasure.
Yes the best jazz album in the 70’s I played some of tunes in my groups. One of the best groups in jazz

Great musicians!!!!! thank!
The illusion of bended notes
The suffusion of blended keys
The infusion of many hopes
The conclusion of ended dreams
- For Keith
That's brilliant and beautiful!
One of the best, most genuine and true groups ever! Thanks God we got the privilege to listen to this!

Fantasisk gruppe med Jons egenartede symmbal teknikk. RIP Jon.
My favorite female "jazz" singer is Joni Mitchell and my favorite male jazz "singer" is Keith Jarrett.
Ben Goodwin Keith Jarrett doesn’t sing.
