Beautiful Pinarello. I have a Pinarello Prestige S that was never ridden in blue metallic paint but it has all internal cable routing. The handlebar stem reads Pinarello and the same on down tube shifters. With Campagnolo Super Record all around including skewers. All the decals are just like yours, incredible how those bikes were so well taken care of.
Lovely find John. I have to admit, I’m slightly envious that you’re able to find NOS bikes in the USA, there’s sadly very few of those available in South Africa. White Rolls saddle gets my vote 👍🏼
Thanks! I think the White rolls wins. In the USA I call these bikes Garage Queens. Someone with money buys themselves or their wife a dream bike and they ride it twice and then they store it in the basement. lol
@@JohnsVintageRoadBikeGarage VW or 911? I found a 2015 4S with only 12k on the clock, great deal. Went back to buy it and it was gone. Wasnt crazy about the colour anyways, black with fleck, kind of greyish in the sun. Always wanted a Targa Agate grey ...
Yes, super Nice. Campagnolo on Pinarello! Definitely last 2 years of Super Record. Both crank and RD final season of those. A collector myself. By the way: white perforated saddle deffo!
Nice find John! Yes, the decals flake off big time. Odd combo with the shifters as you mentioned. I think you're right about it being an '86. They moved the seat tube graphics when they added water bottle braze ons. Beautiful bike.
That's such a beautiful bike. Keep in mind that the high-end frames have Campagnolo dropouts. If you have a bike that has Gipiemme dropouts or dropouts with bikes brand on it, it's a club, entry level or training bike. Even if it's made of Columbus SL tubes.
Great score John .totally cool ,something like but much more valuable, than a Shogun Selectra 12 speed that I got in a charity shop for $10, I pumped up the tyres and went for a !6km ride .,great feeling ,right ? Leave the saddle white ,change the stem for a alloy one .
Thanks for the advise. I am sticking with the white but something more appapoe like a Selle San Marco Rolls. Yes a silver 100mm stem is going on there. I'll probably do the fixes on another video.
If it is a wall hanger I would keep the white saddle but if it's a rider I would get one that fits. Is the extra set of wheels also Matrix and Wolber? Beautiful bike, thanks for sharing.
Nice find, John. I like the 80s color. As you let us vote, I like the white Rolls over a black saddle. Drivetrain-wise is the trick Campy shift off upper cog (?) mechanism that’s the shifting system item you challenged us on? I’ve not ever really seen one.
Thanks. Im with you. The white saddle will happen! Also. Check out the video again at the 5:15 time stamp. You'll notice that the freewheel is turning but the wheel isn't spinning!
I bought a set of similar wheels from Performance back in the '90s but the rims have no identifying marks on them and I've wondered who makes the rims. They look exactly like your front rim. What is the make and model?
@@JohnsVintageRoadBikeGarage I kept researching my wheels since I found they had SS eyelets and yours didn't. Near as I can tell, they're (correction) Mavic Open 4s. I guess I didn't like stickers so I must have peeled them off. Ops.
That is a great question! I love the practically NOS components. Im thinking of switching those out and selling it because it really should be ridden!!!
The S.I. Genuine gel saddles came out in the mid to late 90's. I have a White S.I. Turbo that I put on my white Cannondale SR400, that I bought from Action, in 1984. I probably put on close to 80,000 to 90,000 miles on it, before I put that bike away (The bike was a real bone shaker). I wore the white off of the sides and nose, down to the skin colored leather. San Marco Rolls saddles look great, but the rails always break on me after three or four years (on three different Rolls). One of these days when the STI shifters on my Bianchi TSX dies, and there are no more replacements, I'll throw on some friction downtube friction shifters, and put on an old first-generation C-Record rear derailleur that has been sitting around for 35 Years.
OMG is this THE Bill Kallas??? The one that we finally sold a bike to after many years and a very dropped price!! I remember you. Great to hear from you.
@@JohnsVintageRoadBikeGarage Yes it is. I probably changed just about everything on that SR400, after I bought it. Bar, stem, wheels, crank, and derailleurs. After all of those component swaps, I decided, after that, it was always frame and fork, and components I could find on sale, or close out.
@@billkallas1762 awesome to hear you're still riding! If you're still in the Chicago area come by the garage. I'm actually scheduled to have dinner with Wayne, the owner of action cyclery. I'm sure you remember him. We're still hanging out.

Honestly I'm not sure how to tell what year. I just googled what I was told it was and it came up.. Colors and graphics match older catalogs. My understanding is that the decals are not that durable. Mine seem very fragile for sure! What year do you think yours is?
@JJhabbs I was told 1988 . My decals are all gone . My sports a full suntour super b group set . And tubular Montreal ambrosia wheels . It's a beautiful bike . Dont much care as I'm keeping just hard to find proper info
beautiful bike! If you aren't going to ride the bike, I'd leave the current saddle on it, but a white saddle does look great. Regarding the yellow stuff on the brake caliper, it might be some grease that migrated. Perhaps try some rubbing alcohol to remove it?
You're correct on all accounts. I will probably put a more appapoe saddle on it. Possibly a Rolls. Most likely the bike is coming apart. I'll polish everything, repack all the bearings and then probably polish the stain out of the caliper. It does look like migrated oil or grease.
I’m in the middle of building up a treviso with modern Campagnolo. I’d like to say my frame is a few years never, as it has internal top tube routing and no chroming
That should look excellent. I'd like to see it. I have a couple Retro-mod'd bikes. I would like an old Pinarello or Colnago with a modern Campy Record group on it myself!
Great gem you have there. Looks like a 52. The Synchro Shifters are nothing to brag about in index mode. Better to go back to traditional friction shifters.
JMO: Switch Regina freewheel to Suntour Winner Pro or Everest, use Shimano Hyperglide 7-9 speed chain, Turbo saddle and 120 mm Cinelli 1A Silver Stem. Shifting will improve greatly
probably. However I dont buy these bikes to re-spec them for top performance. If I had a 57 chevy id keep it stock.. Plus this one doesnt fit me.. LOL Thanks for watching.
No…to the gel saddle! The other 2 choices are much more appropriate. And yes…those shift levers have to go. Other than that, a nice find…too bad it’s not your size. And from what I know of Pinarellos of this era, the lettering is notorious for coming off.
Nice find, especially in such condition, Im just starting building one of these up. Lovely bike. Thanks again buddy
