My father and his brother both work with wood as did both of my grandfathers. I’ve grown up around wood my entire life. An environment without it just seems sterile to me. I love the use of the natural color of the wood here!!! This is without a doubt one of my favorite episodes ever!!!
Such a interesting and informative conversation, Karen. You had all the right questions and that must be because you are sincerely interested. Thank you !
One of Chris’ Gnome clappers is heading my way! Squeeee! It should be here tomorrow. I’m obviously very excited! Thanks for this fabulous interview, Karen! 🌸
We met Chris at Houston Quilt Con. His work is beautiful! Him and his wife were great fun! We all bought something at his booth. I love owls so of course I got the owl clapper. It is so cute 😍!!
I kept comparing how much Chris talks about the love of wood and his creations like we talk about fabric and making quilts. Besides different materials, it seems like one and the same!
I use a lot of reclaimed fabric from garments, so a good Chris Hanson seam ripper is going to be great! •Every other seam ripper I’ve used in 40 years has hurt my hand. (Had 2 years of laser treatments on my elbow after one day with the wrong rotary cutter. ) Thank you so much for this wonderful episode, I wouldn’t have known. I can hardly wait. 💙✨
Karen, what a wonderful interview. Uris was so interesting to watch and your questions covered everything we would want to know. His work and the woods are beautiful. My husband’s hobby was woodworking and I learned to appreciate the beauty of natural wood through him. One of our sons has followed his footsteps. Thank you for another outstanding interview.
I expected that this video would be about *using* clappers, but this was fun and interesting and about a variety of sewing tools. They're beautiful and designed to reduce hand strain at the same time. Thanks for focusing the spotlight on this small company. #ShopSmall
Great interview Karen! My husband loves to do woodworking and found a fantastic woodworking guild here in SC. They have an enormous shop area with all kinds of specialty tools, e.g., laser machine has recently been used to make Christmas gifts for family members. I had to show hubby this interview since her made 3 clappers for me plus he gifted one to my sister and a "sew sister". Thanks again for this great vlog!!!❤
Fantastic interview. Chris has a great personality and you can tell he loves what he does. All the Cat Clappers are sold out but will definitely be purchasing something from him. He has gorgeous items.
Longarmers love flat seams. Tailor's clappers are a great way to get them nice and flat. I am fascinated by the designs he has made on his. Buying tailor's clappers is a great opportunity to shop local. The quality you get from a local woodworker or someone like Chris Hanson is so much better than what I found on Amazon. Personally, I got lucky and found veteran who went into woodworking and made two custom clappers for me. I got to choose my favorite wood and best of all the size I wanted. My square one is big enough to cover a 12½ inch block. My long narrow one fits perfectly to my hand width wise and is also 12½ inches long. I was able to choose Birdseye Maple and he complimented it with Wenge wood. Then, with a leftover scrap of Wenge he made a ruler holder. It cost more than Amazon, but as you guys said, it's an heirloom set and I love it.
I bought a beautiful thread cone holder from Chris a few months ago. So much prettier than the ugly plastic ones! What a delightful interview. He's very engaging. And, oh my gosh, when he talked about changing his blades.... Tell me that's not just like a quilter!
As a longtime garment sewist, returning after 30 years of quilting, I have my clapper from 40+ years ago. Not as pretty, but sentimental. Will check him out, thank you. Makes total sense quilters could use a clapper, but no one did whilst I was most active.
I am going to wait until after the holidays and keep a watch on his fancy sets. I want one for my birthday and will be sending my want list to my husband. Such lovely tools!!!
Another great interview. Loved the expression "chaos desgn." Might be a good replacement for crumb piecing. I'm a California girl; I had no idea that California Buckeye, my favorite native species, is such a valuable wood. Wish I could give Chris the ash trees in my front yard that need to come down.
These are GREAT!! Amazing creativity; I appreciate how he uses the wood (my dad-law-law did a lot of woodwork decades ago). And for us south of your border, made here (US)🥰. Thank you for sharing!! (Just followed him on Instagram like I do you 😊)
Soo cool. I was at a quit show class earlier this year and took an embroidery class that we were discussing clappers. I suggested a wooden cutting board for pressing embroidery designs. I was going to suggest the idea halfway thru the video, and then Chris picks one up just perfect!
I make garments for grandchildren, mostly out of knit/stretch fabric. Some of them roll really badly so a clapper is very useful to help them flatten after ironing
thoroughly enjoyed the interview with Christ! The questions asked pertinent and I learned some things about wool that I did not know. I will surely be visiting Chris'website not only view his products but just because I, too, am a transplant to eastern TN from northern IL :)
Hi Karen, Hearing Chris talk about his wood storage issues and his scrap problem, I think he needs to participate in the 2025 decluttering initiative. 😃
Thanks for bringing this man and his beautiful products to our attention.
This was so cool! I love the quality of the tools. They are above my current budget but they are on my wish list!!! Thank you, Karen.

wood is so beautiful especial in the hands of a craftsman
Such a interesting and informative conversation, Karen. You had all the right questions and that must be because you are sincerely interested. Thank you !

Weighted clappers are such a great idea!

Aren't they beautiful pieces
I have a point turner from the very first offering that first night from Las Vegas. So proud for Chris and his family.
Clappers make a huge difference! Worth the investment.
Chris’ work looks amazing . Having a difficult time choosing
I’m having the same problem!
A very fun episode! What a nice guy! His products are beautiful and I love items made from wood. I'm impressed!

Karen you have such a great show. 👏👏. Love clappers, Midwesterner, sister and granddaughter to carpenters love this story!
Craft runs in your family
Chris seems such a lovely guy. I must get one of his clappers
I didn’t think I needed any quilting tools, but had to buy one as a present to myself midway through the interview
Match your lovely pottery
@ there is something in the works
Loved this interview 😊 Merry Christmas to you and family❤
You do an excellent interview, Karen. This was very interesting.

Totally interesting Karen and Chris, thank you.
Fascinating interview .

What an interesting interview, I learned alot about wood and its value, nice to meet you, Chris. Happy Holidays to all.
I had no idea that there were so many different colours
I am going to wait until after the holidays and keep a watch on his fancy sets. I want one for my birthday and will be sending my want list to my husband. Such lovely tools!!!
They are beautiful and so helpful.
I've been using a scrap piece of 1x6 pine for a clapper for a while now. I'm thinking it's time for an upgrade.
My daughter has been doing the same thing. I think I need to fix that.
This is definitely a step up
What a great gift
Amazing talent!

As always, that was great!

I like tools that are perfect for the job...especially the pretty ones
Absolutely fabulous work.
This man is having a blast
❤❤

What a terrific interview
How interesting. Have seen his shown by other content creators.
Would love one of those clappers but postage to Australia would make it way too expensive. Such beautiful products
Love his work! I have some of his work
I learned about clappers from Nancy Zieman years ago and love using them. (I have 4)
Nancy was an amazing woman. We miss her
Omg what great tools.
Wow that is sooo beautiful. What a pity, that I live in Germany. I would looove to have the clapper with the cat
Tailors have been using clappers for a long time before quilters discovered them
yes, an important tool when making suits
Chris, come to Melbourne Australia for the Australian Quilt Convention please, please
Awesome! I will be ordering soon!
So glad you liked it!
Oooo!! I oredict cutting boards!!!
Good morning…so interesting.
Oh maybe he's doing hand quilting hoops and stands. Fun story, thanks Karen.
Will definitely look for him at road to Virginia!
The apple clapper is so stinking cute!
I was just at Sew Yeah on Tuesday! Can’t visit Vegas and not go there!
@Karen that quilt behind you is gorgeous where can I find the pattern????
Coming this summer
Woodworkers have Mt Scrapmore just like quilters. Our woodshop is...well, worse than my sewing room! "I might need that someday".
Thank you so beautiful
Wow!
Unfortunately when I checked his website after viewing this, he was sold out of hera markers. I do hope he restocks soon. They are beautiful!
I would love a cross grain cutting board!
And a dinning room table to go with it 😎
Went on the website, and alot are sold out. Will keep trying since these are beautiful!
Hi Karen, Hearing Chris talk about his wood storage issues and his scrap problem, I think he needs to participate in the 2025 decluttering initiative. 😃
Hah…I know that there is more than one woodworker following the challenge
He should go to Paducah,Ky. Big show next stat3 over❤
I'm from Northern Illinois. Would love to know where Chris was from up here!
I have 3 clappers at my sewing table and 2 at my big ironing board.
Oh boy...a collab with Tula....wow
Way cool
Like crumb quilting with wood
How can i contact Chris? I love his ideas.
His website is Modern American Vintage
Lovely indeed but like everything made for quilters Uber expensive
As engaging as Chris is, his mother sounds like a hoot with her orphanage.
State😂
Great interview! Chris's work is so beautiful.
