    I really like Spider’s development this season. The whole point of showcasing his mom is to see what sort of environment he was raised in. His mom isn’t just a terrible person, she wholeheartedly believes her son will do something dangerous to a woman. She believes he will become a criminal based on a “prophetic” dream she had when he entered puberty. That means he’s probably been hearing her say that she has no faith in him being a good person since he was as young as 12 probably. So Spider, whose mom doesn’t believe in him simply played into what other expect him to be: abrasive, toxic,and annoying. Him being with Missy not only gave him someone who believes he can be more than that but also gave him someone who’ll stay. Not saying it excuses his actions, but it gives him an opening towards redemption and possibly growing out of the immature phase. Another thing about Spider is the demisexual representation he exhibits. Even back in season 1, he’s shown to not feel sexual attraction like others do. When he was hooking up with Amerie, he could not get aroused. His note saying”betrayed by my on d*ck” shows how he’s struggling with the inability to feel attraction like others. Missy is the only partner we know of who wasn’t put off by his inability to not get it up which eventually led to him feeling comfortable in her presence and getting aroused. Spider is an ass*ole but he’s not a criminal/villain as evident in when he realizes how incredibly unhinged Voss was after hearing the entire story of why Voss has this hatred towards society. I think he can change. With some therapy and maybe putting boundaries between him and his mom.

      @Janet67498 5 месяцев назад +153

      @@meggem2581 They do not need partners to nurture them. Getting into a relationship is not the solution. People need to be stable before getting into a relationship. These kids need parental guidance, and we see that this season. The guys are given bad advice from the gym coach, and this stems from his dad. If his dad had accepted his faults and took accountability, his son would have turned out a better person, but instead he’s immature and ignorant. i think the focus was needed. this show is watched by mainly teenagers and by depicting a guy going from essentially an incel to redemption creates the chance for other guys to learn from the show.
      sadly, there isnt an absence of men to fill the void andrew tate's content left and unless someone else gets to them first and shows them an example of how men should and can act, more will just fall down that pipeline.
      i get what you mean about it being realistic which can make it kinda hard to watch - from a woman's perspective, seeing the stats on this sort of ideology growing is terrifying and people like using media as a form of escapism from these issues. but i think the show takes its role as a piece of influential media seriously and realises that whilst talking about this stuff makes it less fun, it does mean it has a bigger impact.

    I think you missed the mark in describing Quinnie’s character arch. The point was Darren and company were not acknowledging the amount of work and effort it takes for her to mask and Yes she didn’t like that she was being to feel distance from her friends she was had a point. It was valid for her to call Darren out for basically saying she wasn’t putting in enough effort when her whole life has been spent trying to accommodate to others and people don’t do it to the same extent for her. Also I feel like Darren and Ca$h kissing at the end in addition to him coming to the dance to win Darren back over was enough evidence to imply that they may be back together. If anything it’s pretty ambiguous and it don’t think it was obvious that they were broken up.

      no i definitely agree about quinni’s arch. darren and all of her other friends were treating her like shit on her birthday. they said they planned out this whole day for her but nobody (but cash) paid any ounce of attention to her. i also think it’s sort of weird for them to be her friends, but not take into account her autism and how it affects her when planning things. i feel like most friends would try to accommodate to that, especially on her birthday.

    • @nuttypurrfessor
      @nuttypurrfessor 5 месяцев назад +104

      i was very confused by Darren's behavior towards Quinni this season because last season they were always very accommodating with her and they made sure to pay attention to what she needed. it was to the point where they did a much better job than i did with my autistic sibling (i know Quinni and Darren aren't siblings but my sibling and i are also friends) and i lived with my autistic sibling for 18 years. the sudden change of heart didn't make much sense to me. the only way that I could maybe see this working but I feel like it should have been led up two more is that Darren may have felt a bit burnt out from accommodating for Quinni but if so, why did that just come out of nowhere? it's something ppl deal with sometimes and if they were feeling that way and had an arc about it that would have been nice to see. Quinni seemed like she might have been burnt out too. both of those things are valid and maybe they can do things to address that in the future?

I don't think they were giving Rowan a free pass. I think they were showing that he was a fucked up human and not a monster who needed to die. So the three of swords is heartbreak, grief and loss (The fortune teller then interprets heartbreak with betrayal so we'll work with that). In the first season we got Amerie's betrayal to Harper, in the second season we got Rowan's loss. Maybe in the third season we get someone's grief, possibly Amerie's. Or Rowan is grief and maybe the 3d season is about loss but I don't think so.

    I initially didn’t enjoy the first episode as I found the C-Lords to be extremely aggravating, and honestly far too realistic. The bullying in that episode also made it hard to like any of the characters. But it got way better very quickly.
    Spider has issues, but the point of his actions at the end was that he chose to be better and not because he wanted Missy’s approval.
    Quinny’s callousness towards her friends was frustrating, especially her saying that they all only look out for themselves when they literally made the entire day about her and got her a replica phone. But I do love her character outside of that moment.
    Rowan obviously had received mental health help in Dubbo as they said he went there to get better, so no doubt he will get more help once his family realise that he is seeing his brother again.
    I loved it. Can’t wait for more episodes.
    Missy is my favourite character of this season. I also liked that Spider’s crush started when he saw her in action, being sporty and aggressive. It reinforces that strong women can definitely be sexy.

    I quite liked it, and as an Australian it was very accurate to my high school experience (and the experiences of other Aussie’s. Even the arson according to someone I know). My only complaint is I don’t like the psychotics as villains trope, only because psychosis is a heavily stigmatised disorder and using a disorder/disability to explain why someone is villainous has been something the mentally I’ll and disabled communities have been trying to push back against. Like, Rowan being psychotic bothered me, because we definitely need more accurate and positive representation of psychotics and this just wasn’t that. The average psychotic would not be doing something like that, and I don’t like how his crimes were attributed to his disorder, when psychosis is as already stated, a very stigmatised and stereotyped disorder. Like, psychotics aren’t dangerous, I’m friends with a few and they’re fine, so it just bothered me. Everything else was fine, and as an autistic asexual I loved Quinni and Ca$h’s story arcs. I also loved Ca$h just calling out peoples acephobia. Like, Dusty honestly sucked for trying to say Ca$h’s identity was selfish, like you’re not going to call a gay person selfish for not returning the feelings of women, so why is it selfish to be asexual? Quinni’s arc, loved it. It is so annoying to have people tell youthar the world can’t follow by your rules when you’ve spent your entire life following everyone else’s rules when they refuse to even actually explain them to you. Like, why is this rude? To me this seems fine? But yeah, loved it mostly, just that one complaint about the villain being psychotic.

      Yeah the only movie/tv show that portrayed a realistic normal person with a psychotic disorder is 'words on bathroom walls' every other character with a psychotic disorder is a villain or criminal e.g Joe from you.

    I really like spider and Missy, but I went rewatch season 1 to remember his shity actions, so that the writers don't trick me with his redemption arc lol
    He still hasn't done anything good besides liking Missy, which he can't really take credit for lol

    I still don’t like the trope of using a WOC to rebrand an Incel. Missy and Spider didn’t give enemies to lovers for me. They could’ve put her with someone less harmful in my opinion. Sure he’s a teen and he can change but I just didn’t like the ship, nor do I like when people ship him with WOC like Amerie.

    • @giamarie3761
      @giamarie3761 4 месяца назад +7

      No it was super weird that they made it a WOC job to fix the white man with mommy issues and a complex. I really wish instead after they had hooked up she called him out and then basically told him that she won’t fix him and that he needs to figure it out for himself. I wish they had shown him seeing how bad the rhetoric he spews can affect the girls around him.

    • @oliviabeckford9519

      @@giamarie3761yes because I understand he is a victim of his upbringing and the writers made sure that the audience understood that but they didn’t bother showing the victims of Spencer’s words. It’s like they flipped the script for him this season. I’m all for fleshing out antagonists but even in this season he was acting the same incel well without regard. They made Spencer double down on it when he was with Missy and immediately regress when she rejected him like he did with Amerie and I wasn’t surprised. People ship them because they love enemies to lovers but in this case it just seems harmful. I would like to see how The people Spencer has been targeting for years react to his sudden change.

    • @rampanthater
      @rampanthater 3 месяца назад

      I think his attraction towards Missy contributed to his reflection in a realistic way. When you really want someone you’re willing to work on yourself and change. The white guy who educates himself for a poc woman trope is tired yes, but I feel Spider’s arc has much more to it than that. Even in season 1 it’s apparent that he doesn’t always agree with his words or actions but stands on them to maintain some false sense of self that he believes asserts his masculinity. So yea, I think it’s unfair to reduce his arc to a shitty trope

    • @oliviabeckford9519
      @oliviabeckford9519 3 месяца назад +1

      @@rampanthaterbut regardless of him not necessarily believing the hate he spews, he is still saying it, impacting the people it’s targeting to (Darren, Sasha, Amerie, Harper) and more. And that loud and empty apology he said to the crowd of people isn’t anything and will continue remain so in my opinion unless he personally apologises as well as realises the damage he’s done. Maybe because I’m a WOC so his arc just means less to me, as well as the fact I’ve been around people like him, so I don’t buy and the writers shouldn’t of written in in this damaging way. Hope they fix up next season and not double down on his actions and let him feel the consequences of what he made the targets of his “faux” hate feel.

    I love how generally stupid the teens are behaving.. I feel like in a lot of teen shows 16years old look and behave like mid 20s which is so unrealistic.. and HBH giving us szenes where everyone just takes mushrooms and then doing really messy and weird stuff is so refreshinh to see.. like yes teens are mostly really stupid.. though I didnt lile all the Romantic Drama.. would have loved more focus on the friendships..

    I love Qunni and I hope we get to see her figure herself out next season. Spider is annoying, though it was good that they started to give him layers this season so he wasn’t as one dimensional as S1. My pet peeve is that the actor looks like he’s 30. I think he’s in his late 20s, but he looks 30 to me. Not even close to a teenager.

    Loved your analysis 👏 the only think I would’ve wanted to include was the stuff about the puritans . Even though Zoe was very annoying in the first half of the season I’m glad that we got to understand somewhat of what her thought process is and why she goes so hard . In fact , the concept of having the puritans contrasts well with the sexual nature of most of the casts - giving voices to teens who don’t want to be a part of the unruliness that hormones can bring. But the camp scene did tie it all together through depicting that she too gets urges but wants to believe that her way is the best way like the rest of them. Eventually I learned to appreciate the group especially when they accepted Darren. The whole season truly illustrates the colorful, chaos that can be coming of age and maturing into what could be through societal peer pressure.
    And I also want to bud in to say I dont think spyder deserves to say he’s completely changed after trying to get with missy. But I do think it’s important to talk about what goes through a persons head to allow them to do a things to the degree that it’s done. The inclusion of the cumlords really helped show how important a male figure can be in a man’s life - especially in spyder’s case. And I really feel like spyder turning on coach really helped his development in understanding his mom’s frustration by a fraction and fully being able to make a choice in the type of person he wants to move forward as. Ultimately I don’t think spyder and missy fit each other in the best ways that they are now but it depends on how willing they are to accept each other while learning to embrace the best version of themselves.

    im sorry but everytime voss was on the screen i just fast forwarded because i know whatever he is saying has no importance in the main story. it was sooooo irritating to watch him bcs i see that kind of men irl all the freaking time. so i didnt want to watch him on screen too. yet i do understand the importance of the character in the grand scheme of things
    edit: i think the makers truly understand what the audience want and just want to deliver that. that is why even season 1 finale got a proper ending; where if netflix was to cancel it, the fans wont be left hanging on some unresolved suspence. that is why they made the season 2 finale resolved that if netflix doesnt announce another season fans are not going to hold on to that. and i really appreciate that from the makers

    I’ve been rewatching Season 2 for three days. The relationships, the sex, the character developments, Quinni’s autistic expression, the language is more “Aussie”, everything about it was amazing.
    I loved Missy & Spider’s relationship unfold.
    I love Ca$h’s Nan in this season… Superior character addition.
    Worst character was that freaking coach (i actually get the ick when he’s on screen)
    I’m genuinely obsessed with this season.
    Rowan is hot…. but sooooo messy & I still dont know how I feel about him and I’ve watched this 3x
    S1 was rewatchable, but Harper’s story line is just a tad too much for me. S1 doesn’t put me on an emotional roller coaster like S2 does.
    Finally, I have TONS of thoughts. But I love that every character explored their friendship with others. They weren’t attached to the hip of 1-2 characters. We got to see everyone’s friendships with one another.

    I hate seeing Darren get so much hate this season!! I think the writers really did them dirty making them the 'bad guy' in both Quinni and Ca$h's storylines while not unpacking Darren's own difficulties. Reminds me so much of how people dragged S2 Jules for struggling with Rue's addiction. I really think they need a therapy scene with Darren like in Jules' Special episode to explore their struggles with gender bc the majority of the audience clearly don't understand the complex relationship between hypersexuality-self worth-queerness they just see it as Darren being selfish.

      What? That’s wild, I really don’t see anything wrong with Darren distancing themselves from Ca$h when as far as they know, Ca$h was an accomplice in a near gang-r*pe. And as for Quinni, Darren has been more accommodating than most people but they’re not a mind reader. Especially when Quinni has learned to mask her own needs even around her best friend.

I hope malakai returns and I hope that Amerie and him could work things out. Also that letter he wrote for her at the end I hope Amerie knows about that too. I love the actor who plays Darren like he should be in more shows and movies.
