    There's no words to how happy I am to have found this, as an artist, I wanted to make 3D Paintings, so I would build up tissue paper, and paint over it. But it took many hours, of layering. This is exactly what I was looking for, and I'm not the only one!! And what's better is I can make stencil patterns, and carve or sand away! Thank you so much for adding this artists work! I can't wait to finally creat all the ideas I've had in my head!!

    so glad I found this video... by accident... I was in a coma, and this gave me back a memory! in 1974 I made a bust of my grandmothers head.. with polyfilla... used it as part of my work for entrance to ocad, it was so lifelike my mother hid it on me lol I love his techniques.. I used a small palate knife and regular kitchen tools for mine.. but I was only 17 and it was so long ago,,, thank you for the memory!!

    Beautifully done and good knife work! This sort of plaster work has been done for centuries around world. Some pieces sculpted cast molded and applied to walls or ceilings. Crown moldings I've seen done with plaster where built with a frame work underneath as the plaster could not be too thick and was done in stages. Then an ornamental profiled draw knife was used to create a nicely profiled crown molding. But most of that nowadays is old school. It's nice to see this kind of fresh composition. Since there have been so much done in empire revival, rococo, grotesque or arabesque styles.

      +Robert Rydlewski I myself do drywall and I use a joint compound for the taping which looks to be the same thing he uses here,but the powder he added is possibly a plaster. To keep it he sprays it with water not heavily just a spritz hope this helps.

      +guardduck25 he's using a regular mud compound, adds water then mixes in some set fast. it gives him a lil time to play with before it sets. without setfast, it'll take more than a day to dry when you lay it thick. without setfast, thick clumps of mud will crack.

    so, i think the general consensus is the music, ah, doesn't quite fit. i would have liked some commentary instead, but that's just me. the artwork is amazing, but what i think we'd all like to know is:
    1) what, exactly, is he using and not commentators' educated guesses?
    2) how well does the artwork actually stick to the drywall over time and in various climates? i live in ohio and we get extreme temperatures sometimes, from wilting humidity to bitterly cold. so, if i did something like this to a wall in my little store, pieces aren't going to fall off at the first breeze, will they?

      Bernie Mitchell Hi Bernie, love the work. I happen to do smaller pieces typically under 2' x 3' so I understand the effort that goes into the craft.
      I have a couple of questions for you. I saw your comments elsewhere in the thread about how you use premix and setting 90 combined. Any particular reason why you prefer that particular combo? I use 45 with no premix and I adjust the water depending on how much I want the mud to flow. Your insight would be appreciated.
      At what depth do you begin to use armatures/reinforcement (e.g. wire/rebar/etc...). I've gone as deep as 3" without armature support but I've not tried anything deeper than that yet.
      And lastly, you mentioned priming and painting in one of your comments below. Are you using PVA or just regular primer?

    • @berniemitchell8634
      @berniemitchell8634 10 лет назад

      It's really just a preference for me to mix the two products.this is a combo I use on a regular basis for drywall finishing.9o for hardness premix for spreading qualities.I've never exceded a 3" application I use a regular primer for sealing the sculpture..Data Mobility Group LLC

    • @datamobilitygroupllc
      @datamobilitygroupllc 10 лет назад

      Bernie Mitchell Thank you so much for such a quick reply Bernie. I know you've got other things to do and I appreciate it very much.
      I think I'm going to experiment with a premix/setting blend just to see how it compares to my straight up 45. I know in the past I was not satisfied with how slowly premix sets so I shifted to SheetRock brand Easy Sand 45 and never bothered to look back.
      Love, love love the work you're doing. Hope you have another great year.

      "It would've been nice" without the music. Think about what you just said. Your comment would've been more meaningful if you said nothing. That wasn't nice. That was/is beautiful and it's a work of art regardless to the music he playing. If it's what gets him motivated then that his choice. Let him create don't knock him some of us appreciate watching talent at work. He's teaching a new creative technique that people could be able to do on their own but don't know it and all you learned is you don't like the music? Because he can do something you only wish you had the talent to do it doesn't take away the fact that it's a beautiful work of art. Stop hating. You and all of the other jealous talentless haters should just shut up and go listen to your favorite music videos and learn nothing If it's all your capable of. He doesn't need or you want these comments. If you just want to talk Bullshit then tweet Trump. views or comments. If you can't say anything nice, say what you know, NOTHING! Because of people like you who run off the mouth with stupidly and put talent down artists will stop posting their work and people like me who appreciate it and learn techniques or ideas will lose out. You people should appoligize it you have an ounce of class in you.

    I think I should win because I naturally had 2 subjects of art in my dry wall without ever knowing there was such a Fine Art. That was amazing.

    he is using a mix of all purpose dry wall mud (red dot) all purpose is the hardest drywall compound there is. then he adds fast set Setting times of 5, 20, 40 and 90 minutes are available at HD the fast set also keeps it from cracking when it dries

    I think I should win because this video is 3 and a half years old and the prize is long gone. Boom. What do I get? NOTHING?? That's exactly what I wanted, thank you. Anyway, that guy is amazing... it's awesome seeing a piece of art from start to finish (well, for the most part, obviously we didn't see every second of its creation). We start with blobs on the wall, and end up with this amazing creation. I love that kind of thing in any medium: pencils, paint, drywall, clay, wood, whatever.

    I've been an artist for 40 years and often thought of using these materials for just this sort of thing but worried about the problem of thickness and cracking... seems as though that has been conquered... I'm very excited to have a go at it... I've done paper relief sculpture that looks similar to this, as well as, leather tooled carvings... this would give me this chance to do things on a much larger, grander scale :D I'm so pleased... without a doubt you've given the lovely tools away... however, I'd be very interested to know what was in the set... what basics are recommended to get started... and where to purchase them... I have a lot of basic sculpting tools that would work for detail work but it looks as though this calls for a variety of larger things... Thank you so very much for the splendid video!
