I feel the need to respond to your comment at 0:47 (not as concerned with food waste as you are with plastic bc food waste is organic & compostable) I am a senior at OWU majoring in biochemistry & a few days ago i enrolled in a class called Zero Waste Methods- Food Waste/Composting. It's exactly what it sounds like. Food waste consists of 22% of what goes into landfills in America (or 39 million tons anually). Nobody really composts & the gas produced from food waste, methane, is FAR more hazardous than carbon dioxide (having taken two semesters of organic chemistry +labs, I can confirm this. I'll only go into it if someone wants to know). You didnt do anything wrong but I believe that this wouldve been a good place to address this massive problem bc people think that it just rots away & is fine. If you're like me & want to know how you can help: 1. Reduce the amount of food you buy but dont eat. To help, consider leaving a shelf in your fridge dedicated to food that is close to expiring so you know to eat/use it soon. 2. Eat leftovers! 3. Be conscious about your portions 4. Best things you can do is donate food to the hungry (say, some bananas or canned food that you have but dont need), or, if you have animals, BEST thing to do is feed your food scraps to them 5. collect your food waste & bring it to a composting facility. Your effort will make an impact. If you do (or even try to do) any of these things then know that I love you with all of my heart & you're making the world a better place

Well probably the most baffling thing about this video is the fact that you speak of not letting things go to waste... But when you cut the vegetables you throw / put in that bin a good part of them. For instance the red bellpeper... That was like 1/4 of it... I can agree that letting things go to waste is a bad thing. But the same can be said about cutting produce just for the big chunks that look appealing.

@@donit. veganism doesn't make people unhealthy. Doing it WRONG will make you unhealthy, the same as with every other diet. If you're a carnivore that only eats candies, does that make meat eating diet unhealthy? NO. It's the person' decision, not the diet's. Same goes here. You should do a research about veganism before you just tell everyone how bad it is... And I don't mean watching people say what they think about it. I mean look it up online, find facts, how it helps the environment, what vegans eat, athletes that are vegan... then you'll get a real perspective.

A lot of time people / neighbors will complain about compost which sucks :(( I think most people do small amounts of compost but you can't really use it so most people don't

Saying Zero Waste sounds like virtue signaling even if its not meant that way. Something about the phrase itself - maybe the unattainability - is kind of obnoxious.
great video!! i feel like making the most out of your produce is especially important if you eat meat, one of the things i hate most is when people will grow an entire animal just for consumption and then throw a third of it away. try to eat offal like livers, kidneys, intestines or giblets! use the bones so make stocks! eat the marrow! heck, eat the bones if they're soft enough, they're full of iron and calcium! don't let any of the energy that went into producing your meat go to waste! and if you can, reduce your overall meat consumption!

They also accept snap benefits to make it more accessible to everyone. BONUS: you choose the veggies and fruit you want each week, it’s not random
This type of video should be all over the internet. We need more people like you in this world, if we want to save the planet, for ourselves, and the next generations 🙏🏼🌍
The way she is speaking makes this sound like an ad.
I love your recipe book. It seems well organized, and I encourage you to save it and pass it along to the next generation.
*Zero **-deaths-** waste*
This woman is a vegan angel..she doesn't sound so pushy n sarcastic like most vegans trying to encourage people to be vegan..n she's beautiful, it's a great package..n im a straight woman..just admiring her..
Ok but, in your videos sometimes you throw edible food out the dish in the trash can...
that's why we have this video to spread change
I use Imperfect foods for high quality vegetables. They have other stuff, but I like that they use mostly recyclable packaging.
Stop peeling your root veg. Just wash them. The nutrient is just under the peel. Less composting too.
Can I compost cooked food? Such as roasted vegetables or steamed vegetables?
I think I’ll make sure I have extra waste from now on when I make food. Thanks for the inspiration
You can fry the tops of Dutch carrots. I heard this from a chef. Apparently they're great mixed in with pesto after they've been fried. Of they can be flavoured with salt and pepper after being fried and thrown on top of food as an edible garnish!
Bobby Maine
I don't know what a Dutch carrot is.
Quite the smug mug in the thumbnail

Just from the pic, you wanna slap her.

1. She really does look smug in that thumbnail, 2 I was being light-hearted about slapping her, 3 go fuck yourself for pathetically trying to ruin a little joke and 4 have a nice day.
1:24 "If you cook at home, you probably know that you don't always use every single part of the vegetable"
Me: "which vegetables?"
This is way more efficient thaan going vegan!
but going vegan also helps
True, certain vegan practices don't help the earth at all in the long run.
Why not both?
@@natalieblue27 vegan is unhealthy
@@donit. veganism doesn't make people unhealthy.
I make stock once a week in my instant pot. It's the best and so easy!! Also - I got a book for xmas called "cooking with scraps" and it has a ton of great ideas for less waste.

for all you composters, do yourself a favor and buy a stainless steel compost bin!! Got mine on amazon the brand Utopia, with charcoal filters in the top. Literally the best purchase i've ever made, I never smell it , it's easy to clean & looks cuter than a plastic one.
With that Thumbnail you don't even need an explanation
My family is big on not wasting food but if it's stale or rotten we will. I grow up not being picky that way because we had to finish are meals and eat everything.
Just compost you darn city folk lol
A lot of time people / neighbors will complain about compost which sucks :((
I think most people do small amounts of compost but you can't really use it so most people don't
You "country folk" try to compost in a small apartment. Where you already have to make space for separate trash and recycling. Take up extremely valuable space in a tiny home with a pile of smelly rotting vegetable remains. Then you can talk.
Ellen Gregory ....excuses are like buttholes, everyone has them and they all stink.
Dumbass country person. What would you know about preserving life, Excaclty, you know nothing because your iq is 3 and below. I would feel bad for you but everyone else already does.
Not sure if if this city folk/country folk thing is a joke, but as a serious response: many cities or apartments don't offer compost services
I finally know how to pronounce Merle!!! Yaaassss, Merle Dixon, I’m ready to rewatch every single season!!
Tasty only sells crappy kitchen stuff at Walmart. Stick to what you do better. Making crap vids isn't it, sister.
This is awesome! Whenever I see Tasty videos, I wonder what they do with the scraps
Cuz, Earth is Possibly Trashed with waste food and plastic...
You think its not?
Janiece Chan lol
Btw I will report him cuz I have a RUclips account
I love Rie, but seriously Merle, you rock in this video! Thank you
Omg😱😱 12million subscribers I hope one day I gonna get 12 million but I never gonna get 🙁😔

I dont get why rei is so important here in tasty i dont really like her
I didn't know you could make vegetable stock out of vegetable scraps. Nice to know! ❤️
