I visited Bangladesh back in 1999, but it looks the same! The above could be 1999. As the video shows, there are no foreigners, not just white people, there are no Africans or Chinese either - the street pedestrians are 95% male too. I got hassled a little bit - but not too much, I felt safe. The Dhaka museum was really good - better than any museum I saw in India, Dhaka zoo was just a regular zoo - but OK, the animals were kept well - I've seen worse. As a white guy, I found that I could go anywhere! Nobody would stop me. I could literally wander through the doors of the finest hotels in Dhaka, and (as a non guest) go to the bar, sit in the lounge - I could have probably used their gyms and swimming pools too if I had wanted to. No way an off-the-street Bangladeshi could do that. I don't want to be too hard on the place - it was OK(ish), but I wouldn't recommend it for tourists, there's nothing amazing to see, and no tourist hang-out spots. No live music. No art. No street dancing. And most people look unhappy - I couldn't see any laughing and joking on the video either. I thought it would be a small India - but it wasn't, India has a lot more going for it. One thing that surprised me is that the women on the street, and in the cycle rickshaws, they would make heavy sexy eye contact with me - far more so than women in any other part of the world, or in India. No wonder the British left so many Anglo-Indians behind!

it is South Dhaka, Its Not central, Its Part of Old Dhaka, U can say Gulshan , Banani, Mahakhali, Niketon is central. Uttara will be North part of Dhaka
I suggest you to start from Thailand, Malaysia or Indonesia. It's cheap to travel there and it's definitely worth to visit! Their food are so diverse and have so many travel destination.

It's pretty chaotic and dirty, Some places are more than others. It all depends on How new the part of the city is. More older it is, more chaotic it gets. My suggestion, unless you want to see how the economy pushes through with your naked eye, there's nothing to see in this city. The city is like a giant sweatshop factory, forging. The city has no time for beauty or cleanliness, too busy feeding the people. If you really want to come, come during winter. Summertime is either scorching sun or boiling humidity.

But the magical point of difference is the people of the city. Every foreigner who visited this City have praised the meek and smiling behaviour of the inhabitants of Dhaka (and the whole Bangladesh), which is mostly absent in European or Indian Cities!! You don't visit a city just to observe its lifeless beauty, but also to see the humble nature if its admiring people. More over, Dhaka has some of its magnificence. Another thing, the real beauty of Bangladesh lies in its rural greens and its 700 huge to small rivers and the river rides. The Hills, the world's longest beach and the biggest mangrove forest, world's biggest swamp forest rides. Sorry brother, if anything hurts.

And had to work with foreigners on multiple occasions, enough to get an outsider perspective. Secondly, you have no idea what varied can the interest of a tourist can get. People do travel to see booming economy. I know of them and met a Russian dude like that. Also not everything is good & well with the people, I knew a few Chinese engineer living in Dhaka (from ZTE iirc). They used to get scammed on a near regular basis. Though afaik, the scamming is better than some South American countries. As for Dhaka, around 2015 as a personal project, I decided to visit 40 tourist destinations of Dhaka. Let's just say majority of them were in poor condition (especially the historic places). Greenery isn't any rare thing to find. In fact, it's far less than what used to be in 30 years from now. Rice fields in China, Flower fields of Netherlands, Grape fields of Italy, Cotton fields of Mississippi Delta are just as pretty as what you have here. Sundarbans is in such ecological danger that in my opinion people should get relocated from the region. And Rampal Coal Plant isn't helping the situation either. . Don't always go all "sunshine and rainbow" in youtube comment section. Reality is less pretty and more complicated.
