Insanely normally with this kinda music, they're literally reading it off the cuff as they play it flawlessly. MENTAL!!! my brain cant function that at all but it's incredible.

I agree it’s great, but I doubt very much so that they are sight reading this piece. They have probably practiced it for over a period of time

This is the piece that got me into piano, the piece that started my entire musical journey. Whether directly or not, everything I do as an artist, as well as thru my MIT project, comes from this song and the impact it had on my 12-year-old brain. Thanks so much for reacting to this for me, and I'm absolutely thrilled that you both come from artistic backgrounds and were able to listen to it critically and through a deconstructive lens. This made my whole week. :) Can't wait for stream night!

11:20 not only that! Remember, they have to have good control on volume, articulation, expression & feeling… Don’t forget their feet! They have to constantly step and release the pedal appropriately!

As a pianist who plays extremely difficult pieces I still admire that traum can play Ravel so well, when I finish to Record the transcendental etudes by Liszt I would love to record Ravel's gaspard de la nuit and la valse, they are completely incredible
14:30 and with this type of music with lots of jumps and lots of patterns like those trills with several notes, it's much better to memorize the sheet music just to make sure you hit the right place hahaha with all of the dissonances is easy to miss some notes and don't get the right efect

Hi, Ravel actually composed this piece for the orchestra too! You should give it a go! It’s just as good (or even better) than insane performance!

Hey, composer here, come to pay my respects to Ravel. I suggest looking up this piece in historical records, because (you're right,) Ravel started writing this piece in 1906, but finished it in 1920, after WWI. The piece was named "Vienna", but he changed it to "The Waltz", as it is an exploration of this genre of music, from its creation, to its peak, and eventual distruction. Was it the war that destroyed the waltz? Ravel does not tell us (he was famously reticent about commenting on the war) but it's nevertheless amazing to see this pianist's rendition (This may be Traum Piano).

You guys should react to Zerstören and Stirb Nicht Vor Mir (Don't Die Before I Do) by Rammstein, both are very underrated IMO

And well, I bought a 88 key keyboard a few weeks ago. Just not sure which window to choose to throw the keyboard out of, lol.

Ravel is a fantastic composer and traum is a great pianist. You mentioned that you think that he was reading the sheet music, but I can assure you he was not. All classical pianists memorize highly difficult pieces like this, and most pieces in general. There's no way to read the sheets while doing some of the insane acrobatics you saw in this piece.
