I don’t think people realise how lucky they are to have their memories so easily captured on tape these days. as it were. I wish someone had videos of the prodigy at reading 96. But as it is I still have my great if slightly fuzzy memories.
This was my first live Prodigy experience, I waited so long trying to find footage anywhere. What’s frustrating is there was def a pro camera crew there, not sure who they were filming for, but I’ve never seen the footage.
My first ever time at a festival and the first time I saw the Prodigy live. It was SO hot in there. Also reminder the DJ before playing CJ Bollands 'Sugar Is Sweeter' which the Prodigy hated as they thought it was a rip-off of Poison.
I was at this. Was totally awesome. One of the maddest gigs ever. Saw Johnny cash and a bit of Alanis Morrissette then went to the Dance Tent around 2.30 3pm ish cos we knew we probably wouldn't get in other wise. I caught Giz Butts T-shirt, i still got it. Thanks for the upload
Big time, was incredible, loads climbed the fence, bum rushed the tent, was heaving…..amazing memories……chemical brothers were also amazing in the dance tent
It was evident by this point that The Prodigy had outgrown festival dance tents - they had proved as much on the main stage the night before. Now the entire festival is trying to fit in that one small space. The crush was something else and it was a hot night already. I'm on the barrier, 16 years old and scrawny, had been a fan about a year and this was my first time. I remember the wall of security that suddenly appeared and immediately were having to pull people out who were not coping.
I was actually covering this event as Ambulance Crew ! I remember being sent to this stage due to all the crowd surfing and heat related incidents! I'd have been just to the left of stage behind the safety barrier.
Took my younger brother to this festival when he was 15 and I was 19 - which meant he managed to clock up two Prodigy gigs before he was 16! We loved both nights. RIP Keith Flint. If you would like to please look at my idea for a mental health promotion inspired by the fire starter himself. @t
I had a choice that night The Prodigy or the Sex Pistols , I’ve seen a lot of bands and been to some amazing gigs but the prodigy on this night was the best !
I was there that night.the prodigy had played on main stage the night before, then in the dance tent.i was fkin boiling in there and was getting quite manic in there security had linked arms across the entrances trying to stop the crowds getting into a packed tent.the sweat was dripping from the ceilings.unreal night
I was right on the rail for this one with the one other member of our group who managed to get into the tent that night. Shout to Dave Bull if you ever find this!!
I was under that diagonal support to the left of screen with broken toes. By the time I got home I'd rebroken my toes- they looked like S - shapes n I didn't even feel em. Good pills back then.
The earliest confirmed play of Smack I'm aware of was Brighton Essential Festival in May of the same year. It's possible there was an earlier version but it wasn't regular. This (Phoenix Day 2) was the first time *I* heard it, I thought Maxim was saying 'take my picture'
I was there. I know the difference between the two sets. I am fairly certain that this was not the set that was played in the Megadog Dance Tent and the decor looks totally different to what I recall. Maybe I was drunk.
@@kirstiewilson7743 I think this is from Phoenix 96, day 2. Was my first time seeing these beauts, memory of it is a bit hazy. There is some Radio one audio from this night floating around if you want to compare. What a cramped, sweaty mess that tent was. Absolute bedlam. I seen them 12 times in total now, but nothing was like this... though V97 was close.
didn't think there was footage of this. I was in there. Never felt an energy like it. 30 years on still think about it
I remember the best sales pitch ever outside this tent. LSD, SPEED OR E. 😂 Awfully nice guy. But I don't remember his face. 😂 Been a while. 😂

Did you know if it's the first time Smack My Bitch is played ?

This is some next level bootlegging.
Interesting that they didn't include Smack My Bitch Up in their main Phoenix Festival set.
Same setlist for 18 and 19 Phoenix 1996. Smack my bitch Up was played too but not aired on TV.
This is not the dance tent footage from Phoenix 1996.
This was in Megadog Dance Stage, the other footage in the day before was in The Phoenix main Stage.

Was it the same year when they were on a mina stage?
Yes. Main Stage night one and Dance Tent night two :)
