    Described this to my non-musical friend as “when you’re putting butter on a warm bagel and the butter is melting as you spread it”. Splendid.

    Как легко зыучит одно из самых сложных произведений, написанных для валторны, эти все переходы легато на верх в Адажио и это в живую, не в записи, очень красивая трактовка, близкая к совершенству, думаю вы сможете и ещё лучше, невероятный уровень мастерства...

    I love love love this video but holy crap do I wish I could just make the screen go black for a moment playing this in recital, lmao. My endurance and high range are quite strong but even then I feel like some part of me breaks every time I approach that last page and I realise that I still gotta play that end. I love the piece but I always dread having to play it through start to finish!

    Excellent interpretation, as always! I've been wondering though, about your horn - how much (if any) does having the high side in addition to the standard F/Bb help with ease in the high register? Thank you!

    • @ScottLegerHorn
      @ScottLegerHorn  3 года назад +2

      Hmm, it’s interesting to think about because it’s not always a clear decision when to and not to use.
      In this piece I don’t think the high side actually helps too much, because the primary challenge is one of endurance, and there isn’t much any Horn can help you with that. However there are still some notes like A and Ab which I just generally prefer to play on the Eb horn for intonation.
      Ultimately I think it comes down to the sound. In the romantic era rep, I don’t use the Eb side much because I don’t think it offers the right sound always. But in contemporary rep and classical rep, it can have a unique and sometimes more appropriate character.

      @@ScottLegerHorn Interesting. Thank you so much for the thoughtful response!

    • @tyrepair
      @tyrepair 2 года назад

      Great reply! People think the alto side of a triple is a “cheat”, but if your lips are tired by the time you get to the end where you go up to the high Bb twice, a triple won’t save you.

    Isn’t it awesome (yet sad) that your low register is miles ahead of Stefan Dohr’s and David Cooper? Just being honest…and I prefer your sound above David Cooper’s too.

      Keep at it. The range will come! Use arpeggios to increase your range by going up chromatically. (i.e. 1st line E major arpeggio and hold the 4th space E as a whole note. Take a 5-10 second break and play F arpeggio, then F#, then G, etc. Attempt past your comfortable range, but don't hurt yourself! Do this a few times a week).
