I'm new to the channel. Going up to our river and hut today to do winter maintenance. Rivers closed so a good time to tie some of these cool flies here in NZ
That's a great tip Greg! I know exactly what you're talking about. And I'll bet that foam could be used in lots of patterns. I might have to pick some up the next time I'm in the grocery store. :-)
@@SavageFlies 😳 don’t give out your secrets Matt, gotta build that international man of mystery legend!! We gotta set you up a green screen and make it look like you’re tying in a bear cave, or on the top of a mountain. That way, when you get materials, it looks like you’re yanking em right from the body of a bear or mountain goat…….(ahem…..testes,) for the Tups fly!!
Good morning Matt. Hope your vacation is going great. I like the looks of those buggy looking flies. This fly is one that I’m going to try as almost all of the trout water around here are stillwater fisheries. Take care Matt and safe travels.
Good Morning Sir Matt, great looking fly. I fish alot of still waters for trout so I'm very excited about this one and will definitely give this one a try. Thank you Sir Matt, enjoy the rest of your vacation, time goes by so fast during vacation.
Hi Matt it's Colin. I tie a lot of u.k. flies. I know about this fly a while. Midge , buzzer or duck fly, whatever you call it catches fish. I would say this is a style of fly. The animal or beast Norwegian fly is another fly that's similar.
@@RyanAshley419 Here is a great older book. 1960s or 70s. John's books are fairly cheap. I would try getting any book by him.www.ebay.com/itm/312872336069
I agree Veniard has some solid books. I've got a couple and actually picked this one up after Colin recommended it last year. If I recall it has some decent color plates in it. And you're right Ryan, loch and reservoir fishing is a different culture in the U.K. 👍
I like the looks of this fly. Also like what seems it should be fairly easy to tie, being completely new to this sport. As for still water fishing? No Trout in our lakes, that I know of??? Just curious, could this be tied a little smaller and target panfish? If so I could see this in many different color patterns. Thank you Matt.
Good morning Matt cool looking fly
Thanks Karl! Appreciate you watching my friend. 👍
Good morning Matt,
Hope your vacation is going awesome ☕️☕️👍
Thanks Jim! We're having a great time down here in Virginia. 😎
Matt, thanks this is a great pattern! I'm going to tie a version of this fly for a children's fishing camp.

Welcome to the channel my friend! And man, fly fishing in New Zealand is on a lot of our bucket lists. 😁
I fish mainly in the Ruakituri river near Gisborne. Big powerful trout.
Good looking fly Matt
Fast and easy, and very effective
Thanks for the video
Nice little fly. Thx Matt. Have a fabulous time!!
It's been a minute since I have tied one of these. Thanks for sharing Matt. Have a great day with your feet in the sand. 😎
Great little pattern.fishes pretty good too.thanks Matt for sharing
I will have to tie that one. Thanks Matt.
Very cool pattern, very simple and slick.
There's white foam lattice that cushions pears 🍐 in our grocery store,it makes great shipmans buzzers

Cool fly Matt. Thanks for sharing your time! KANSAS
Another nice simple fly Matt. I think there are a bunch of color combos that would work on this one. Keep the good stuff coming.
Agree Dave- in fact, I saw this in a few British books tied with red and orange bodies as well.
Nice fly Matt, but that’s the second fly you did on vacation. You got to get out there and get some fishing in😊🎣.
Don't be fooled Michael... I recorded three before I left town! RUclips lets you schedule videos ahead of time. I'm still on vacation. 😎

Nice & simple tie. This would work well for using the rotary function on your vise.

Thanks John! And yes, we're having a great vacation here in Virginia. I might need a couple of days to relax after it's over. 😁
nice and easy thanks matt.

Yes it does Edward! It's almost Friday already. 😁
Well done!!!!
calf tail looks and work great
Great call, and actually light enough to help keep it afloat. Thanks for the note!
Another great name Matt!

Any suggestions for books on British flies? I spent some time over there years ago and was interested in their whole different fishing culture.

Jeff- you know panfish... they're going to attack anything that looks half edible. :-) This thing would work great for them!
@@SavageFlies I can relate to that. I resemble that remark. 😂
We call them midges, as well but we know the British term 'buzzer' . :-)
I'd never heard them called buzzers until I started watching tiers like Davie McPhail and Mak! Some cool bugs though. 😁
