when my dad was in middle school, which would have been 1950 +\- making a sugar scoop from a tin can was a required shop project. It was not much larger than this one. The handle was formed from the same can and soldered on all of the edges were rolled over and neatly soldered. It was quite a skill to be taught in middle school shop.
Cool idea Dan. It brought back memories of my shop and mechanical drawing class in school. Had to make a bird feeder out of tin. Not sure if they still do that but I had a lot of fun in that class and did not skip it like I did with algebra, LOL Thanks for sharing it.
Two of my top 7 channels are Coalcracker Bushcraft and Bushcraft Kelso. Cool right? Some of the things you show with cans I learned at school camp over 50 years ago. I cooked eggs on top of a coffee can. Great content. Thx
What brand of auger setup is that? I’m a retired HVAC/sheetmetal guy and I can see how handy that scoop would be around camp. Especially made from a soup can. Great idea.
If you used a steel soup can, you might even end up with a scoop that you could dig a cat hole with, if the ground wasn't full of roots or rocks. As they say, "It beats a sharp stick....."
So many trade craft skills are lost in todays world! It is truly a shame that there are not enough youngsters that want to learn from old timers! I try to teach my grandsons life skills, and they want to teach me how to kill Zombies!! They wonder why Pappy won't give them a knife he forged!!!
@ no, i'm not missing the point. you have to balance everything. using my dutch ovens i bring my dutch oven gear that includes a scoop. to make the scoop you have to bring an auger and saw and take the time to create it and find the drink can or use one that you brought with you and don't cut yourself cutting that can. you brought aluminum in and you cart it and all the cut pieces back out. the lightweight scoop i bring saves all that time for other tasks to "craft" at camp. balance

Just looking for a video like this yesterday
The super duper pooper scooper.
Nah, that's the technical word for toilet paper, mate.
Great video. Reminds me of when I was in boy scouts . Keep going with other tin projects. A#1
Awesome, thank you!
Can somebody repeat those woodworkers names mentioned in the beginning ???
You are so much more relatable than the ego master corporals corner...
I'm still waiting for the arm wrestling match.
Good idea

If we were all MacGyver, we could scrounge around the camp area and fashion a GPS, as we left ours at home. 😊
If you magnetize a needle, you’ve got the OG GPS. 😉

Cool tool although I bet those edges are sharp as hell.
The coconut water in the cans would work great for this. They are really heavy aluminum. I can’t remember the brand though
The taller C2O cans
Why not make a small mall
You've already got a saw and knife
Yep blue monster for years now lol . But least I’m down to kne a day
👍👍👍👍👍👍

get a metal kitty litter scoop, or a vintage slotted fireplace ash shovel, both work great and last forever. use them for my dutch ovens.
Your missing the point of the “craft” part of “bushcraft”.
Id just use my cathole shovel, It's basically a camp requirement depending on your location
