The depth of the follicles, the root bulb size, and the thickness of the individual hair shaft determines pain level. The larger the bulb, the more nerves associated with the follicle. It should never be a 10 on the scale, but most people don't go below a stinging 5. Best you can do is minimize the sting, not eradicate it. Hard wax is still ripping hair out by the root. It still stings. Source: Esthetician for 6 years.

    Hi, licensed esthetician here..
Yes it does stick to the hair not the skin, but it does still hurt. You want alot of hair growth before you wax, my go to is 3 weeks because the wax needs something to hold onto. When you apply with hard wax, make sure you apply pressure and against the hair. I like to apply to half the armpit, then the other half. Always apply a lip so its easier to pull and when ur done applying pressure will help with the sting. DO NOT use hard wax on the brows! Its harder to apply and trust me, use soft wax for the brows!

People not only have different pain tolerances but they also have different bodies, which have skin of different levels of sensitivity, its GENETIC. Its different perceptions of pain altogether, not just tolerance.

The more you do it the easier the hair comes out thus it less and less painful. My armpits were never too bad to wax but the last time I did it it didn’t hurt at all.

I have a high pain tolerance, I have multiple chronic illnesses....
I've been waxing for 20yrs and went to cosmetology school.
....waxing hurts. Even if wax doesn't pull your skin (with many waxes you can also apply baby powder to help prevent this too). If you use tweezers and pluck a hair, it hurts. If you pluck 30 hairs at once, it hurts. Epilators hurt. Ripping hair out will always hurt.
That said, it should not be excruciating, if it is it's not being done right. For me armpits are the worst honestly, and I have less pain with Brazilian. It's my favorite hair removal technique and I encourage anyone who has unwanted hair to try it, but do expect a very quick bit of pain when the wax is pulled. It will feel similar to the pain of tweezing, just over a larger area.

people talking about how she has barely any hair, thats the thing with waxing and other hair removal options, typically you remove the hair while theres not much there. you dont wait until like your armpits are bushy and thick, how they would be if you dont wax for a while.

  • @misz3

The true answer is: it depends. Waxing gets less painful over time because your hair thins as a result. So even if you're super hairy, the pain will get less and less each time. Or if you're just not very hairy, it may never hurt at all.

  • @MERRY4098

so lemme make this clear.. waxing doesn’t much hurt but it’s not that it does NOT hurt. It does, and that’s normal. But for people who are sticking to new waxing and say it hella hurts, yes. It does so much hurt because you already shaved so u are pulling ur inner hair too. But it actually hurts crazy when you do it on the most sensitive part of our body’s, you know down there.. 😺
