I used to have the single cover for this painted on the back of my leather Jacket, it was very cool. Unfortunetly it got stolen in a house break in about 20 years ago.
Shane’s a cockney really but he thought of himself as Irish. But he’s always been one of my heroes, He was real. They don’t come around too often nowadays.
Rip ! Had the pleasure of spending St Patrick’s day with Shane in An Brog in cork city in 91 or 92 . Walked in and walked out 4 hours later like didn’t have a drop ! We were like 3 puddles on the floor ! Little bit of acid also ! A pure gentleman and a scholar ! RIP SIR !
Old folk songs like this could often be heard in pubs before they installed juke boxes. I've joined in with this one many times in my youth. Plenty of other old favourites too. The Dubliners were around for years producing these sounds. Great stuff. Nice reaction Squ.
Shane is absolutely right in writing music for yourself. Writing for your fans is the problem with music currently. Too much - what'll be a success/make money - and not enough from the heart. That's how we get music regurgitated over and over again. It sells to the fans but is it great music? Seldom. That's the difference with Shane or Ren or Dirt Miller. Real and raw and heart felt which can resonate with you at a deeper level.
I've always felt similarly about comedians. There are those who try to make the audience laugh, and those who try to make themselves laugh. I think the latter are far more interesting, and worth some extra attention.
You would probably love listening to the Dubliners 40th reunion concert at the Gaiety in 2003, it's long, two RUclips vids of about an hour each. But well worth a listen for your own enjoyment rather than a reaction.
too bad Luke Kelly had already passed away, he would have enjoyed the gig ! These guys are HEROES, they saved the traditional Irish music from sinking, Thank you, generous lads, fabulous poets and musicians, Irish bards for ever !!!
If you ever get a chance Tony have a listen to the lp If I Should Fall From Grace From God, stunning Pogues album and Turkish Song of the Damned is a banging tune x
Shane was born in Kent, really a son of England. Both his parents were Irish, he said he was a son of Ireland. He spent all his childhood summer breaks in Ireland. His wish was his funeral to be in Ireland. There was a procession in Dublin, then one in Tipperary where his funeral mass took place. Johnny Depp and Shane were very close friends. Johnny was one of 6 to carry Shane’s coffin in and out of the church. All of this took 8 hours. The longest funeral mass ever, dancing to his songs. Still I’m Irish and I’d say he was English. Still we loved him in Ireland. Enjoyed your reaction 👏👏👏
Like Shane I was born in England to Irish parents like him brought back here when I was young I too ended up back in London before moving back again during Celtic Tiger Co incidentally I now li e in Tipp, to anyone who thinks I not Irish Póg Mór tú, to mis quote someone ‘been born in a stable doesn’t make me a horse’ xx 💚
If someone says ur a English twat it with love my best friend was born in England and he has the biggest Irish name lol luke Kelly I call him a twat I love lol
@@PhelimDoylethat’s a coincidence, Luke Kelly was my godfather RIP. My dad and he were amazing friends. I love Shane, I’d love to say he was born in Ireland 🇮🇪. Then I’d disrespect the fact he was born in England. He got a huge send off in Ireland. I also wouldn’t refer to anyone as an English Twat. I feel England and Ireland can be proud of Shane.
@@gerose1964I think your using Irish there, it’s póg mo thóin tú. I’ll leave out the tú as I’m not saying that to you. Just that’s the proper spelling of kiss my ar*e. Of course it was the original name of the group
Yo .... I decided to subscribe as I like the range of material you choose to react to. Both Kirsty and Shane have passed but their duet on Shane's composition will live forever. Shane is an Irish songwriting icon. I Would love to hear your reaction to another Irish icon: Imelda May. She is an amazing songwriter, singer, arranger, and producer. Her original material ranges from Rock-a- Billy (Johnny got a boom boom) to torch ballads (black tears) and fantastic covers like Kermit's "it ain't easy being green", U2s "still haven't found what I am looking for", or Les Paul and Mary Ford's "how high the moon" with the late, great Jeff Beck. Fair winds and Happy New Year.
Shane Mother was pregnant with Him while living in Ireland.3 months before Shane was born His Fathers job required Him to move to England. So Shane was conceived in Ireland and They had to move to England and He was born 3 months later so that actually makes Him Irish like Shane said. His Mother was pregnant with Him in Ireland and was conceived there and was born in a Enland Hospital but He's not English He's Irish conceived in Ireland to Irish Parents.Just because They had to move 3 months before He was born to England does not make Him English.Hes 100 percent Irish and His Parents were born in Ireland. The fact that They had to move to England 3 months before He was born does not make Shane English that makes no sense
Ronnie Drew from the Dubliners another legend along with Shane from the Pogues what a fantastic collaboration from two great bands

Imagine seeing the Dubliners in their prime with Ronnie Drew and Luke Kelly that would have been legendary

Loved this. RIP Shane 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🐿️🏴
That is the legend that is Christy Moore playing the bodhrán at the back. Now he's worth a rection any day of the week.
thank you for mentioning who played the bodhran in the back, I was wondering
That was a fun Irish ☘️ song always so sad when we lose a great artist 🙏🏼♥️🐿️

That appearance on The Late Late Show was a special landmark moment in Irish history IMO

R.I.P Shane ❤🏴
Irish music and Ireland lost another of its gems. Very sad, but what a legacy.
Have you seen the version of Fairytale, in the church at Shanes funeral. Superb

I can't get enough of the vocalist's powerful and haunting voice🤘
