    I just wish the baseplate had a second rod mount on the other side, what a weird thing to not include. Some of us still use manual follow focuses, even on shoulder rigs...

    • @VolareMedia
      @VolareMedia  Месяц назад

      Hey. Thanks for the comment. It works fine with my follow focus, that single rod. The other thing I usually do now, I just have a nice baseplate I built with the rods and everything below it, and then a Manfrotto plate that slides on to this quick. I typically shoot most of my films/commercials between the shoulder rig, sticks or my easy rig. I can quickly switch between them with that set up.

    • @hell-bentfpv
      @hell-bentfpv Месяц назад

      @VolareMedia it just seems like it would have been so simple to just put some threaded holes in the other side of the baseplate for that same included rod mount so you could switch the sides. Having the rod on the right is absolutely useless for 99% of setups, although nice if you're running a full wireless FIZ setup. Most prosumer follow focuses and motors are designed to be mounted on the left side of the camera anyways because they are meant to be mounted to mirrorless camera cages. Just seems like a glaringly obvious and weird flaw to have on what otherwise seems like a well thought-out rig. I'm really debating getting one and am kinda wondering if I can skip that whole double plate assembly all together and just mount the camera directly to the manfrotto-type plate that holds the arms, then attach a rod holder to the 1/4"20 thread points at the front...

      Hello, that’s great to hear. Let me know if you do purchase it. I would love to hear your feedback.
      We have not had a chance to finish our episode on using it in the field. But we did use it already on a few shoots. I even found a great trick to share, it turns the rear part into a baseplate. Works so good.

      Great to hear. We love ours too. I actually use it as my handheld rig base as well. With the handles off and the rear pad off, I added two long rods on the back, mount my battery on that. It makes a perfect solid base for my handheld set up. Maybe an episode on that too 🤔

    Great video, very detailed. If I were to want to mount the whole rig with the camera attached to a tripod, would I be able to attach a tripod plate to the bottom and in front of the shoulder pad and pop it on my tripod?

    • @VolareMedia
      @VolareMedia  2 года назад +2

      Hey. Glad you enjoyed the video. To answer you question. Sort of. Under the main large pad there is nothing. But if you really wanted to you could remove the rear small pad bracket and attach the included dual plate. Right on the back. But it would be very front heavy and awkward in my opinion. The other option would be if you slide off the lower plate with the two pads. You could mount any plate to the bottom of the part that slides out. It would still have the handles on it. If that’s what your wanting.
      If you follow my Instagram I could always send you a video or photo of what I mean. @volaremedianet
      I hope that helps. Thanks again.

    I ran into an issue with the HDMI cable poking me in the face, so what I did is I switched to the Arca Swiss side of the plate so then I could run it left to right and that allowed me to off center my camera to the right so that the shoulder pad fit more comfortably, idk if it's because of how my shoulders are, but it was uncomfortable having to the rig farther out on my shoulder.

    -Pocket 6K
    -Tita half-cage
    -Tilta 15mm LWS Baseplate (Type I)
    -Pictor Zooms (giant)
    -(2x) 16" 15mm rods
    -Smallrig lens support
    -Fotga Follow Focus
    -Soonwell V-mount battery plate

    Oh, and I have a Tilta dovetail (their proprietary one... I think?) for use on a tripod, or whatever.

      Hey! Thanks for watching. And for all the great info. I sure don’t get on here enough to check these anymore. Starting the RUclips back up soon. Have a few filmed.
      For this set up, I’m usually hustling between my sticks and shoulder rig. So I have a baseplate that is manfrotto and I just swap between the two, or handheld with the easy rig. Never have to change plates, I can quickly swap between the three types of shooting.
      Then I just have another camera on my gimbal for the 4th style. This way I’m not changing plates ever really on a bigger shoot with all different shot styles.

      Hi! Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. That battery was just on there for testing. Doesn’t last that long. • @VolareMedia
      @VolareMedia  Год назад +2

      Hello! Thanks for watching.
      Unfortunately it does not come with a V mount plate. You have to purchase the two rear rods and a V-mount plate. Tilta has some good quality ones at a reasonable price.

      How long to get it? Wasn’t that long. Even when it says on order. They usually only take a few weeks. You can always email Tilta. They have great customer service, and they usually know when stuff is coming in.
      I have used it in the field for the first time recently. Works really well. I’m even using the main base now for my handheld rig. It’s a bit overkill, but I like it.

  • @Shah_creates
    @Shah_creates 2 года назад +4

    No one is commenting on how Tilta just had one rod mount in the front (for the follow focus), but without two rods you will not be able to use this rig for heavier lens that need support or a traditional matte box! They clearly had the space to do it. I know this is meant to be a rig for light cameras, but you can't grow with it! Why, Tilta, WHY?

    • @VolareMedia
      @VolareMedia  2 года назад +2

      Hello, thank you for watching and taking the time to comment. There is easily a way to mount dual rods. I am doing an episode on it soon. I actually use this base of this shoulder rig now for my handheld. Bigger lenses or anything. My next lens will be the DZO 20-70 and I guarantee I can make it work. You might just need to use a different base. Just about any base can mount to this, super easy. Might even work with this base, just a longer 12” rod instead. Should be able to mount a focus, zoom and matte box to the rod. If not I’ll use a dual rod base and mount to this. Give me a bit, I’ll make an episode about it. Thanks again.

      @@VolareMedia Looking forward to seeing your solution. I have several shoulder mount rigs, all that I have built myself. • @lucabortolami

    I bought this shoulder rig and it's great. I have only one problem. I want to mount the entire shoulder rig on the tripod. The long plate of the shoulder rig (the one with rosette mounts) should be a manfrotto plate. I have a manfrotto fluid head but the plate is not compatible. The plate is too short and the top part of the should rig touches the tripod head and the plate can't be screwed in place. In the tilta adv of the sounder rig they show this feature but they cut the video at the exact moment they are trying to mound the shoulder rig on the tripod. So I think tilta know that the plate is not designed correctly but the don't give a f.....😢😂

    • @VolareMedia
      @VolareMedia  Год назад +1

      Thanks for this info. I do love this shoulder rig, and I find it very useful and so easy to set up. But I feel the same. It’s too bad that one plate is not compatible with manfroto. I do have a different way I set this up to use as a base plate, but it doesn’t utilize the handles.
      I’ll make a RUclips short this weekend and share how I have it set up. Watch for it. Cheers 🍻

    • @lucabortolami
      @lucabortolami Год назад

      @@VolareMedia I'm making a custom aluminium plate to rise the tilta plate about 3mm so the shoulder rig should work better on manfrotto heads.

      I can’t say I know for sure without trying it. I do not currently have one to try unfortunately. But by looking at it online I do not see why not. Should fit.
      If I can find someone locally with this I will try it out and let you know.
      Thanks for watching

  • @mrhobs
    @mrhobs Год назад +1

    Maybe I'm wrong here, but why did Tilta decide to change standards? Did they finally just decide to abandon the Tilta standard in favor of manfrotto and... that other one? Great, doesn't fit my Tilta baseplate. I had to bolt on the included plate onto the bottom of the plate I'm already using. I don't love having a stack of plates, but I guess that works... ugh.
    Now I need to find an elegant way to mount a monitor where I want it... preferably not an expensive arm that shifts at the joint when bumped at all... but that's probably what I'm stuck with... should've built a custom rig...

    • @VolareMedia
      @VolareMedia  Год назад +1

      I always prefer having some sort of bottom plate now. With my rods and V-mount on the back. I build it all out depending on my shot list. Takes time, but if it’s the right shot, it’s always worth it.

Still very happy with it. Sets up so fast! Instantly ready to rock. The perfect combo has been A Cam on sticks with manfortto plate, then switch to this when needed. Then we have B Cam that lives on the Ring Grip with gimbal etc. Great set up and saves so much time during filming days.
