Man this game brings back so much nostalgia from my childhood playing shooters in arcades, also there are some bangers in the soundtrack(like the cyber grind)
One thing i really like about ultrakill is how it forces you to learn the craziest, most insane techniques to get good, usually in games all you need is knowledge and mechanical skill to be good at it, but ultrakill amplifies that "requirement" by a TON to the point of the things you learn are some stuff that would usually belong in those crazy world record speedruns, but instead they end up being part of your average playthrough of your level, learning these crazy combos and movement techs is turned into a core part of the game.
The highlight for me was fighting the secret boss unlocked by P-raking all of act one. First of all, it's an amazing boss with the moveset and combos of a fighting game character, but what really sold me was the music. Trough the entirety of the lust layer, you hear about King Minos, a badass king who believed that loving someone isn't bad enough to end up in hell. He turned lust into a thriving city, only for angels to kill Minos (who was actually trying to resolve the conflict in peace), imprison his soul in his own rotting corpse and use said corpse to destroy everything he built. While exploring the remains of the city, the song that plays in the background sometimes switches from a high action combat song to a more sorrowful, melancholic melody. It highlights the tragedy of the lust layer, and gives it a whole new feeling. The melody comes back again in the room where the secret entrance to Minos' bossfight is located, telling the player that the king of the lust layer is near. Then you finally get to the boss, and the melody comes back yet again, only this time, instead of being filled with sadness, it's filled with determination and the pure wrath of Minos. It ties the fight to the story perfectly and makes it so incredible that being slammed against the ground by an old transparent man for 45 minutes straight didn't feel bad, unfair or frustrating at all.
I’m glad you finally got to talk about this game,i started playing it about 2 weeks ago and i have been absolutely obsessed,i hope this video gets more attention to this game,it absolutely deserves it,i think you could’ve talked about more stuff about the game but you got to the core of what it’s about and that’s enough for me
I literally watched a video like two hours ago about a guy explaining how different games achieve players wanting to get better and then he talks about a game I have never heard of before, named "Ultrakill". He said it's the game which does this concept the best and I added it to my wishlist. 2 hours later you upload a video about it, I just luv you
fun fact the room with the markiplier reference has more youtuber references in each coffin but in one of them the skull is blue which you can place on the blue pedestal that you can place the skull on to so you can fight a secret boss
For a demo game, this has more content and replayability than most triple A titles. From P(enis) ranking every level to grinding the cybergrind to finding secrets you always have something to do, if you are done playing the game, ur not, ur just taking a small break for a week until you try and do more flashy combos or speed running, and when you are done doing almost everything, hakita says "fuck no you arent" and adds more content.
As much as I love doom eternal, I feel like the lack of tech was what held it back from true perfection. In doom, your just using the guns and base movement abilities as intended. There's nothing wrong with that at all, but I was intrigued when I noticed the railgun and ballista knocked you back, but was then disappointed when the knockback wasn't good enough to make use of. Even though I'm not good at any of them, I respect the crap out of ultrakill, quake, dusk, team fortress 2, and titanfall 1 and 2 because of all the tech behind movement, physics, and weapon mechanics.

Here are some tips if you're new or learning ULTRAKILL: - Malicious Faces (aka Maurice) are weak to Shotguns at close range, and immune to explosions. The best way to kill a Maurice is to jump on it's head and do something called Shotgun Swapping. You fire your shotgun and quickly switch to your other shotgun without to cool down. Using the Whiplash is the best way to get on top of a Maurice. - Mindflayers often shoot 5 tracking projectiles. You can deflect them by switching to your Knuckleblaster Arm and firing a Shockwave at the perfect time, which will send them back (works with other projectiles too) - In a recent patch, you can whiplash your coin to reset it's momentum, and send it into the air again. You can also use the whiplash to drag in Virtue cores, Kamikaze Drones, Shotgun Cores, and Rockets (you WILL take damage) - The best way to kill a Virtue is to hit it with the Electric Railgun, since it is 150% weak to electricity. - The easiest way to complete the 4-2 challenge is to use the whiplash at the Red Skull area to place it on the pedestal, stand over the glass pit, and wait for the Insurrectionist to use it's leap attack. It will be instantly killed once it goes into the pit. - You can ULTRAricoshot with your Malicious Face Railgun (the red one). - While fighting V2, if you flip a coin and don't shoot it, chances are, V2 will shoot your coin. A red flash will appear and you can shoot the shot back at V2, performing an ULTRACOUNTERricoshot. Same applies to when V2 uses it's coin attack. - You cannot kill Something Wicked. It has unlimited health, and teleports away everytime you shoot it. It also deals 1000 damage. With major assists on, you can survive one attack by putting damage resistance at 10%. - You can parry the Corpse of King Minos' hand. - When you kill a Maurice with enemies under it, you get a style point named +MAURICED. - Swordsmachines are 200% weak to Shotguns. The best way to beat it is to parry it's attacks (which will enrage it). As an enemy, when it reaches phase 2, you can shotgun swap it until it dies.
