Today I join Brian at the Critical Bench Compound in Florida. He takes us through a series of glute activation tests/exercises you can try for yourself at home.
If we spend many hours sitting through out the day and don't activate the glutes frequently. We can experience these lazy glutes. Your glute muscles will not activate or fire off as quick as you want or need for performance.
You may also find that when you perform lower body exercises (i.e squats) you do not work the glutes due to this poor activation. This can lead to imbalances, lower back pain, knee pain, and a decrease in your performance.

• Lower Back Pain Caused...
One of my observations: EVERY client (so far) with hip joint pain I've worked with had a weaker glutes activation on the side they had the pain. This went from not being able to fire the glutes on that side at all, to just weaker than the other side (with both sides being not at their best state). Feldenkrais work PLUS improving the glutes (=crucial ingredient) would ALWAYS improve the hip joint pain. The relationship back pain / weak glutes seem to be a more rare case, but I agree that for some cases there's this connection too, in my observation. I studied this as "the lower crossed syndrome" (Janda, McGill), but I don't see it that often in it's pure form as a sole cause for lower back pain. Good video!
That intro was freakin' awesome , love you fellow Ninjas .
When I do one leg bridges my hamstring tries to work pretty hard.
Wow, y'all are good. You've a channel i can totally stay motivated to work with every day because smart, funny, surprising, knowledgeable, clear -- thanks, guys!
Intro was beast :)
Thanks for the great video. I'd like to add an important detail to the time of the isometric contraction. 10 seconds is ideal for the muscle and the nerves. More than that isn't more beneficial and less is not enough for optimal development. 10 reps and a short relaxation in between the reps is enough. I heard and especially experienced that as a client of an excellent physiotherapist. Suggested to do twice a day every day.
You do 10 squeezes, 10 seconds each? And how many rounds at a time?
@@downtoearth8369 just one round daily in the morning and in the evening to get the maximum benefit.
When I do a Glute bridge I get hamstring on one side fired up and barely the Glute working. Don't know what to do! :(help!
PS Totally stoked to start working my way through your vids, I hope there are tons.
I suggest creating a video on genetics and body structure having to do with exercising.
Great suggestion! Thanks for commenting
The intro is different. Kinda weird but good video
Thanks tom and john
Sure thing @Zaid! Thanks for watching
Your Welcome Sir
yeah but what does 'firing properly' feel like? when the muscle gets tense? thanks for the vid xx
If the glutes do not fire or get tense, what other muscles compensate for it? The back? Hamstrings?
If your glutes aren't firing properly you will definitely have tighter hamstrings than normal when doing these exercises.
Low back will compensate as well.
Try this out, hold the bridge for example, isometrically for a more than normal time, like 30 to 60secs, if your low back or hamstrings are fatiguing first, you are compensating, ie weak glutes.
Firing properly would feel like a squeeze in your butt maybe a little burn otherwise known as a contraction. The muscle will also get harder or tense, like what you said :)
@@takeoffyourblinkers this is my problem! overactive hamstrings!!!!
I need this man!!!
Thank you for making this video!! I have a heart condition so for a few years now was not as active as I am now. I got into yoga a year ago and I've time I've had lower back pain. Past few weeks I've been working on my core strength and my booty lol. I've been told to work on my glutes and I'm trying to learn more about all the glutes and the muscles. If you have any suggestions for me that would be amazing. I'm 5 f 1 in haha yes I'm short lol I'm 34 a single mother of two beautiful daughters and need to get fully in shape. No gym yet but soon. Thank you so much again for this video.

I don't understand what I'm supposed to be looking for but one of my butt muscles seems to tense better. I do have lower back pain and tight hamstrings.
No mention of lower back pain in the video?
I’m suffering from lower back pain & I’m on sitting routine so should I do these glutes exercises? Is these exercises worse or relief my back pain?

"Hey, I just can't seem to train my butt, properly..."
Loved it! 🤣
...
But(t), seriously, great vid. I sit for 8 to 10 hours per day, (due to my current job description), and these simple exercises are a life safer. Really.
I, even, devised a couple of my own, to better handle this, (before I had seen this video), while sitting at work.
I'll add these to my routine, too. Thanks!
I feel seasick.
The camera moves side to side way too much around 3:45 onwards.
The link for "Unlock Your Glutes Program" and "Start your 5 Minute Glute Workout" link don't work.

How the heck do you know if the glutes are "firing"?
So basically glutes are the only group muscle that need an activation? So annoying. I’m training my glutes and have no growth comparing to my legs which grow very easily...so frustrating. I’m a woman and I want a bigger but but bo big legs
Thanks interesting about Russian Systema x
awesome entrance jojojo
I pass the test :3
I have a big bubble butt so I never wanted it to look bigger, I don’t train it and now I’m paying for it- lower back pain😩. I couldn’t do a simple bridge without manually lifting my ass to start. Today I’m able to bridge without assistance ( day 3 of activation).
I guess I’m saying, you can have a big bum and still not glute activation.
Oh! And back pain finally subsiding since I’ve started. I used to get horrible spasms in my lower back. I have anterior pelvic tilt too.
Hey I’m early for once 😂😂😂 love this Channel
Awesome you got here early! Thanks for the love
TappBrothers thanks so much for replying it means so much ;)
Unlock your 💪🏽Glutes is excellent except no easier possibilities for BEGINNERS.What a freak out for them.
Very good to let people learn the whats & the whys as to ??it’s not happening. Tapp Brother. you guys are good. Can I be in your movie whenever that happens? I hope you keep your separate business, that is THE TAPP BROS. Long winded Videos to sell something are a bore. Instead, more Ninja demos featuring the TAPP. BROS
Let's see what your working with😄
Get a 10kg weight and go up a few flights of stairs. Ur glutes and your knee muscles will be burning in no time.
My glutes fire everytime i fart
palkelbajo bahaha ur funny
Why would I do any of this when I can just shout "WAKE UP GLUTES!" Problem solved.
What if I don't want big glutes
Whats the brand of those joggers your wearing?
These are some of my favorite pants for training. They are ninja pants from Pi Movement - www.pimovement.com They are designed very well for training and acro.
I'd say pants
I'm referring to the sweat pants or track pants haha the shoes are the cheapest black sneaker I could find at target ;)
