    Today I join Brian at the Critical Bench Compound in Florida. He takes us through a series of glute activation tests/exercises you can try for yourself at home.
    If we spend many hours sitting through out the day and don't activate the glutes frequently. We can experience these lazy glutes. Your glute muscles will not activate or fire off as quick as you want or need for performance.
    You may also find that when you perform lower body exercises (i.e squats) you do not work the glutes due to this poor activation. This can lead to imbalances, lower back pain, knee pain, and a decrease in your performance.

    One of my observations: EVERY client (so far) with hip joint pain I've worked with had a weaker glutes activation on the side they had the pain. This went from not being able to fire the glutes on that side at all, to just weaker than the other side (with both sides being not at their best state). Feldenkrais work PLUS improving the glutes (=crucial ingredient) would ALWAYS improve the hip joint pain. The relationship back pain / weak glutes seem to be a more rare case, but I agree that for some cases there's this connection too, in my observation. I studied this as "the lower crossed syndrome" (Janda, McGill), but I don't see it that often in it's pure form as a sole cause for lower back pain. Good video!

    Thanks for the great video. I'd like to add an important detail to the time of the isometric contraction. 10 seconds is ideal for the muscle and the nerves. More than that isn't more beneficial and less is not enough for optimal development. 10 reps and a short relaxation in between the reps is enough. I heard and especially experienced that as a client of an excellent physiotherapist. Suggested to do twice a day every day.

    yeah but what does 'firing properly' feel like? when the muscle gets tense? thanks for the vid xx

    • @BelindaTN
      @BelindaTN 6 лет назад +4

      If the glutes do not fire or get tense, what other muscles compensate for it? The back? Hamstrings?

    • @takeoffyourblinkers
      @takeoffyourblinkers 6 лет назад +6

      If your glutes aren't firing properly you will definitely have tighter hamstrings than normal when doing these exercises.
      Low back will compensate as well.
      Try this out, hold the bridge for example, isometrically for a more than normal time, like 30 to 60secs, if your low back or hamstrings are fatiguing first, you are compensating, ie weak glutes.

    • @jessuptraum13
      @jessuptraum13 4 года назад +2

      Firing properly would feel like a squeeze in your butt maybe a little burn otherwise known as a contraction. The muscle will also get harder or tense, like what you said :)

    I have a big bubble butt so I never wanted it to look bigger, I don’t train it and now I’m paying for it- lower back pain😩. I couldn’t do a simple bridge without manually lifting my ass to start. Today I’m able to bridge without assistance ( day 3 of activation).
    I guess I’m saying, you can have a big bum and still not glute activation.
