Imagine being stuck behind JT, Dwayne Haskins and Joe Burrow, during a single season, all on the same roster, while being a #1 QB recruit by yourself... They have had some stacked over the years. Holy. And then I think of other similar things that happened with Meyer. The year of the 3 qb question mark after the 2014 title. Or his UF year, where he had Cam Newton right behind Tim Tebow, even if the former didn't pan out there. Oh, with another #1 qb out of high school that similarly didn't pan out after Meyer left, but then in his defense, I don't think the coach they got after Meyer knew how to use the spread personal very well. He seems to be the QB whisperer for spotting insane QB talent anywhere. Even over Saban, who generally has across the board talent scouts that get everything.
Here’s my analysis. Tate killed his own career. Instead of toughing it out and fighting for the job and OSU, he took the easy road and transferred. It was a dumb choice. He had the weapons and protection at OSU to be a top 5 QB but he chose to take it easy. He went to Miami where he wasn’t developed correctly, didn’t fit the system, and didn’t have the team around him to be a good quarterback so he lost the starting job again. He finally shipped himself back to Vegas to play for UNLV. He got to play a little bit, but once again lost the starting job. In the short time that he did get playing time, he looked completely different compared to his time at OSU. As seen in this video, he was always on the money and had good scrambling ability. At UNLV he was overshooting his receivers left and right and couldn’t run to save his life. Tate claimed that he kept training and working hard this whole time, so if that’s true then whats the problem? The problem is his confidence. Tate was a great player when he was confident. In high school, Gorman won three straight national titles and his confidence just kept building. He was hyped up going into college, leading him to play so great in this game. After he lost the starting job though, his confidence was shaken. When he transferred to Miami he began to doubt himself, causing him to perform badly. Finally, he truly fell when he transferred a second time to UNLV. A last resort that failed. He has finally decided to stop playing football because he has no confidence left in himself and his ability. Tate is done, and all because he didn’t know how to deal with adversity..
Yeah he didn’t have a chance to start at Ohio State post JT they have had three straight first round talents at QB each one a little better than the last
But it also goes to show that he would have been a bust in the NFL. Nothing like playing in a little danger to see how you handle pressure instead of your O-line giving you all day to throw against Rutgers.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen so much potential melt away so quickly. He truly played incredibly in his college debut. Like seriously what the hell happened?! I think the blame for his disappearance falls mostly on him.
He was some shit against real competition he really wasn’t a good player on and off the field plus he fucked himself over with his off the field attitude he didn’t carry himself as a player yeah you can be cocky but the nigga was just a jackass towards his parents and teammates then on top of that every time he didn’t get his way he left that college then wasn’t a starter at the second college then left that one then the third college he didn’t start so he left that one and finally his last college told him he wasn’t a good qb and put him in as a receiver and he wasn’t good at that then he didn’t have enough good film to make it to the league so he just quit
Yea he should had stayed @ Ohio State and developed instead of dipping out because of Fields.. not a good look for anyone.. He had mad talent too and made some great throws here.. If he trusted himself and stood tall as a teammate.. God knows what could have happened that Year after fields or when Justin left for the NFL.
Don't get me wrong, Tate is an awesome athlete, and could lead a team to the national championship, he is that good. But lets please remember that this was vs a really bad Rutgers team after getting the poo kicked out of them by Haskins and the 1st team O-line. Most of those throws were short easy ones to make (and its great that he was accurate with them). The TD throw was underthrown and easily could have been an INT vs better teams like TCU or PSU. The one great throw he made to saunders was his most impressive one. It was great, and shows his potential. He has a bright future here at OSU if Haskins leaves.
This kid could have been something if he would’ve just stayed in one spot. I think he’s had some bad actors whispering in his ear. I legitimately believe he’s good. I wish the kid the best at UNLV and beyond!
I've said this before, but I just don't see him as a QB. Day will have to tailor his offense differently because Martell doesn't have near the arm strength or quick release of Haskins. Unless Haskins is 100% a top 20 pick, I think he should come back another year. He'd have all his receiving talent back too and a really experienced offense.
More crazy that he graduated high school in 2016, Trevor graduated in 2018, and Trevor will be the number 1 pick, while Tate will be in college another year
As a Brit who knows very little about American football, I watched this QB on QB1 Behind the Lights. He seems incredibly talented but seemed quite cocky also. A recipe for disaster if you ask me. Such a shame that he's played so little the last 2 years. I hope he gets his head on straight and is able to make it to the NFL. THe saddest thing in life is wasted talent.
Wait!?!? Wtf!?!? I don't remember this at all! Why was he in in the 2nd quarter only up 21 anyway?! And played the rest of the game...I mean, I know it's Rutgers but he was ballin!
I thought the music was coming from another tab but no lol. Gotta turn the game volume down if you're putting music on top of it. Good highlights though.
i would caution OSU fans to keep in mind that this was against Rutgers, but when teams like UCF are in ny6 bowls then i’d say OSU is in a pretty good position to run through that kind of competition in the future 😂
But really though. This performance was better than Manziel. When scrambling he isn’t just throwing the ball up randomly and depending on your freak receivers to get it. Manziel did that a lot.
Knowing and following him as a youth player here in Southern California, I wanted him to succeed so bad. But man, the attitude I guess was his Achilles heel. It sure as hell wasn’t from a lack of talent. Just don’t know what happened along the way.
What’s the real reason he can’t find a home? You watch this and the film, every team runs similar spreads. You would assume he could be a starter somewhere. The changing position to WR and back to QB, tells me there is more happening behind the scene
He just isn’t that good. This is against Rutgers. 2018 rutgers was historically bad defensively and were dead last on offense out of 130 teams. He can play and probably start at a team like unlv. Maybe Washington or Texas tech but he just isn’t a baller like that
@@YardratZ Makes sense. I’m not saying he is great or anything. As a Kansas fan I’m an expert in bumass quarterbacks. I’d just thought he find a home somewhere of the 32 power 5 teams. Or at least get some PT. It’s been like 5 years and he hasn’t taken a legitimate snap ever
