These are the kind of anthology episodes I would like to see.. different military bases aircraft carriers area 51 hell even a space station episode would be amazing small islands there's so many different scenarios you can come up with to show the beginning of the falling out and all these different types of places.
The thing about the Wildfire Virus is that there is zero containment. Everyone is already infected, any death from any cause will result in a walker that could potentially create more. All it takes is one unobserved death inside even the most secure bunker can spell certain doom for the occupants.
Most people who die without help do so because their body fails. Those would make for very weak zombies indeed. Most people don't die overnight: Most have a history of becoming really old and weak, getting ill, or getting help with dying from things as cars or other heavy objects. The show did a great job at portraying a swine flu victim dying overnight, but most people don't die that quick and silent. While something to stay vigilent of, it can't be the reason most of the military failed so quick
what causes the virus they tell us that everyone is infected but what caused it, if someone who was in the space station died after day 0 would they be infected or be fine ? As they weren’t on earth for like 6 months and prior to them going their was no zombies
@@sjonnieplayfull5859What about astronauts when the infection started? they were in space before zombies appeared so will they turn if they die let’s say 5 months after day 1 if they been up their for 6 months before outbreak ?
It is kinda disappointing, that the main show never featured any famous sites of Washington DC. Imagine them search in the White House or Congress for some info on what happened and where the Government went... It's really horrible of the writers not exploring anything at all.
Why would they search for information? At that point they've all given up hope that the government will do anything and are just trying to build what they can. I agree it's a wasted opportunity to not have them scavenge for supplies or take cover from saviours there or whatever but your mcguffin is bad.
@Deactiv8dStylez well in the comics, right before they get to Alexandria, Aaron had to go into DC to help save Heath, Scott, and some others, but Scott didn't make it after getting back to Alexandria and fighting infection. But still very briefly they were in DC lol The Show just chose not to go into DC and instead simply show the skyline of the Washington monument. They still didn't touch much on the politics of it all though. It was a cameo in both instances.
@@onetallpheeeshyep, loved the comics, loved the series, even though everything was much more different on tv i still enjoyed the views they could use based off the budget they were allowed, they did everything they could, the skylines of the monuments and buildings, i did like how they did a skyline view of the mall as well when they were riding horses killing walkers left and right, gave us a realistic feel of what it would look like after a decade fallout. im ready for whats next in the series which is the ones who live.
they would've just found an abandoned White House probably full of walkers. The President and all important staff would've been moved to a bunker/secure location as soon as the outbreak started
For a long time I thought The Walking Dead would end with 1 of 3 options. 1) The main cast all die 2) The crew would come across the army making a push across country like in WWZ book 3) They walk off unto the sunset just to live another day.
As soon as they made it that everyone is infected and when anyone dies they turn, the entire story or rebuilding was dead. At that point, there is no rebuilding because everything could get wiped out at any time.
I wouldn't be mad if they have ended it in season 5 episode 11 when the group arrives to Alexandria and Rick hears the kids playing inside the walls. The group was in rock bottom at that point and devastated by Beth and Tyreese's deaths, it would have been cool to end it with us not knowing what Alexandria looked like but with that good ending tone. The whole point of the show was Rick trying to bring his people to a safe place to live, it would have been cool if Alexandria ended up being that place.
Considering Cobalt was about abandoning the Coasts and moving to the interior, I think that the President was moved to the Great Plains and what remained of the Government and Military became the CRM. Though they weren't originally the CRM. I think they were trying in good faith to restore order and fix the country, even in the months after the collapse officially ended. But, the President ended up dying, and maybe the line of succession was interrupted, and there was a power struggle for people to become the next "President". Whoever it was that won was an Autocrat who evolved the last of the USA into what we know as the CRM, a militant organization that does share the goal of restoring the United States, but not in a very democratic and peaceable way as you would expect with the successors to the American throne. I mean, we saw a powerful group of centralized people declare the Sixth French Republic in Daryl's show, so it's not out of the realm of possibilities that the CRM would declare a new United States or a Second United States or whatever.
I feel like the president would have been usurped/ assassinated. It’s always been about people taking from others. I can see how people would fight for that position in the apocalypse. Thinking they can take the world for themselves.
Yes me to I would love to see episodes like this but unfortunately the walking dead tv franchise has become so so bad. I mean you have to scrape the bottom of the barrel to have a show get as bad as the walking dead. The writing is the worst and the acting is horrible as well
The government west of the Mississippi exfils to NORAD in Colorado. The majority of the VIP's on the East Coast will exfil to the Greenbrier, in far-eastern West Virginia, the closest mountains for the DC elites to flee to. This is, and has been common knowledge for decades.
It’s theoretically possible. While in a direct fight no, but if everyone is infected, then you no longer have control no matter how many people you have. When anyone dies at any time you have the potential for them to horde up. Say you’re in a bunker and nobody is infected, it’s a perfectly safe zone. Then someone just has a health issue randomly during the night and turns, then kills 5 others then so on and so forth. People look at is as if a giant wave of zombies is just going to charge the military. Well if that wave is coming from everywhere and never ending as there are only a few million military personnel including reserves and 330 million + people, you’d still get completely overrun as you don’t have enough people to maintain control of the entire country. This isn’t even counting the crime, panic and people that would attack the government due to panicking. Walkers are less likely but if you take a place that’s ridiculously densely populated such as the cities, you’d inevitably lose control. Places like China would go real quick, and if they were runners than most wouldn’t be able to survive at all. It’s quite difficult to make fast succession headshots and even more difficult if those targets are all running at you from different directions.
First days should and would of been chaos my guess is they all got wiped out then soldiers destering, the army logistics bad etc and the us army not being actually deployed in the USA their might of been a bigger threat at the time like Russia or China maybe a ussr in this timeline
if they had prep time, sure, the thing is it happened SO fast that everything had already essentially collapsed by the time they realized what was happening, good luck fielding any sort of military when 90% of your force has abandoned to try and keep their families safe.
They basically took the idea of the Enclave from Fallout and applied it to the walking dead with the CRM, Padre, etc. My guess is Maj Gen Beale was the highest ranking official left so he's serving the role of the pseudo president now just based on the line of succession
@@topsdaily_productions That may end up being the case. I personally feel like their new govt functions more like a council with representatives from the major departments acting like a Congress. If Beal is head of the military, my guess is he gets his way more often than not lol
@@ian7064 the civic republic is unaware in what general beale does outside the walls. Beale holds a lot of authority but seems to lie to the civic republic on his actual intentions.
@zVaRiaLxRecoil In TWD, we learn that EVERYONE has the virus. It only takes effect when someone dies. So the problem with these bunkers is that, if anyone there dies, they'll turn and the bunker will be compromised instantly
I have to believe when the Alicia actress said she was leaving, the writers vindictively wrote her following the senator as way to humiliate her prior to leaving. Nothing else makes any sense that somebody could write something that stupid.

They didn’t mention Obama in the TV show plus the comic book and the TV show focuses on the rocks group Besides seven senator Eliza Vasquez didn’t exist in the real world, so I doubt it’s Obama. It might’ve been someone else since this universe does not relate to the world we live in it’s just a big ass end of the world scenario.
I want to know how the zombies are still alive 12 years later. I know it’s a show, but literally no science backs up the zombies walking around for 12 years with minimal food and the elements cooking and freezing them. The flesh should have dissolved and fell off within the first few years.
You're also not accounting for new infections over years. One walker that lasted a year can infect more than 1 healthy human. The walkers multiple over time, not one night.
for me I try to not think too hard about this particular concept... I just tell myself there's something about the virus/pathogen that preserves the body to a certain degree. IRL the bones could no longer remodel and the skin and muscles would become desiccated. They would last maybe one or two weeks before their bones would crumble under their own weight and their muscles would tear in half.@@ciarajones4970
@@ciarajones4970yeah but for society to collapse to the level it had by the time rick woke up at the very least 60% of the population would've been infected within the first month probably more, and it's not like the dying stopped then. Within the first year like 80-90% of the earth's population would be dead or undead and since walkers would rot and decay and be unable to move within three months at most, so by year two or three there'd be minimal zombies and by year 12 the only zombies would be people who died and no one knew until they got up and attacked someone.
but we have seen many zombies growing in trees...covered in moss...decomposing ......first of all zombies blood shouldn't be wet and drippy....it should be more like a dust....blood coagulates
@@alanb8884 Right. I suppose in that situation, if I was Deanna, I would just say, "Look, they are all dead. I may be the only member left of the three branches, so I will be Acting President until further notice!". 😅
@@glennhubbard5008 It would be interesting at least TV show lore. To give us at least tidbits of what happened to the government and military seen we are a decade in the apocalypse already. Lets say Daryl stumbles into a old bunker facility. An upon entering the facility it turn out it has automatic reserved generators for power, he stumbles on a computer an we see a soldier on the monitor. An this soldier must be at least a Colonel in rank giving out his thoughts on the last days of the U.S and explaining how D.C was overrun. An he does not know if the president is safe as the military including the facility Daryl is on is being abandoned for more possible safer locations outside the mainland and to follow procedure like P.A.D.R.E. This would be enough info for us to work on in regards to the lore of the WD universe and might hint the US govt might still be active but probably in a much smaller scale in general and we don't know where they are currently.
When Maggie went into the subway with Negan there were pictographs and cash in suitcases left behind. I feel this was a setup that never got a pay off. This seamed like it was about a rich well to do family or someone high up in the government.
I think the thing that's always made it impossible for me to take this show seriously is stuff like P.A.D.R.E. Legitimately, whenever the government or military are involved, the show will basically be like "So they built this fortressed area with layers of barriers and a bunch of guards with advanced weaponry and a bunch of supplies and training. But then they all died." Which leads to the question, "Okay, but how did they all die with all of those preperations and effective countermeasures?" To which the show's response is universally "I dunno. Zombies broke in and killed them, I guess. No idea how they actually managed to do it, but believe us, they totally did."
All it takes is one death within these fortified walls for them to become a coffin. Same thing happened to Crawford. One doctor died, which let him bite a few more people, which means those few more walkers take a few more out, and so on. Everyone's infected, and everyone dies someday. You either escape the walls, which is remarkably difficult given the layers of barriers, or you get bitten and die.
One thing that always bugged me is that after they go to northern Virginia, they never talk about the government and where the remnants could be. After Eugene told his lie, they still decided to go to DC for that very reason. I mean Mt. Weather is a well known bunker an hour or 2 from Alexandria set up for government VIPs. It's capable of housing thousands of people for years under a mountain without ever having to open the doors. Wouldn't it be a good idea to go check it out? Even if nobody made it there it's full of supplies and the perfect place to live, or at least have as a backup plan. Deanna being a congressman would have known about it and likely other governmental facilities. Even if they didn't want to take the story there, they could've at least mentioned it and explained it away somehow.
in all likelihood what remained of the government and the military retreated to underground shelters and they stayed there until they ran out of food and power - trapping them underground until they ran out of air , died and turned . @@guilhermehank4938
@@scottd1903Yeah there’s a lot of unexplained things. Like where did all the military vacate too after cobalt. They had a base, but it was never shown what happened to them. I mean a massive military installation would be stockpiled with supplies and soldiers so it would be an easy safe zone by then. They never tried for NORAD, Mount Weather, Raven Rock etc etc.
@@Mitch_Conner75926 I could see the bases being abandoned and looter, and NORAD is a long way away. But Mt weather is 67 miles (by road) from Alexandria. Literally an hour's drive. And it's sole purpose is for a situation like this. It's right down the freaking street, at least mention it. Like maybe ask deanna about it and she could say something like: unsure if anyone made it in there, but it's sealed shut and basically impossible to get in to. Or, the VIPs never made it there and it was looted early on and without those supplies living there would be nearly impossible. That's all it would've taken, but not to even mention it when they came all that way for something like it is a huge oversight in both the comics and show.
Would’ve been awesome to have had a spin-off series about the federal government response to the outbreak….Prez, VP, military, Intel agencies, NIH/CDC, FEMA; comms/ccordination with foreign governments. Govt implementing Continuity of Operations/Government and evac of key officials to COOP sites, such as Mt Weather/Bluemont, VA, Cheyenne Mtn Complex, etc…
That's an interesting thought, I would like to read a series about the third generation in a zombie apocalypse fighting for resources. Each fraction having overriding "authority" from long dead forebears. -- The Trust's United States Army, born from a group of Congressmen and whats left of the military industrial complex. -- President Teller's United States Army, formed from a Senator and some Generals. -- The President's continuity of government program taskforce, which only had 3 Joint Chiefs and a former Vice President. -- The Revolutionary Brotherhood, the offspring of Marines that turned rebellious to save the local town. -- The United States Navy, started with an Admiral with a carrier group. As for TWD, without followers a President is just another asshole who can't farm. I think Stealth from Ex Heroes had it right: “So the Mount is now under the Army’s control?” “Technically, unless you seceded from the United States at some point in the past two years … yeah.” “Which United States are you referring to?” The question froze Smith and Freedom. It jarred the others, too. The man in the suit coughed once. “I … I’m not sure I understand your question.” Stealth crossed her arms. “Which states are still united? California has not had a functioning state government for twenty-two months now. There are no social services in effect. No taxes levied or laws enforced. Its borders and lands are not maintained. As a state, California has ceased to exist by any possible definition. From our own limited reconnaissance, I can say with some certainty it is not alone in this respect. Alaska. Arizona. Florida. Hawaii. Massachusetts. Nevada. New York. Oregon. Texas. Washington.” She paused for a moment, then added, “The District of Columbia.” Smith shifted his feet. “So I ask,” she continued, “which states are still running and operating to the extent they can form a united nation, one that you and these soldiers can represent?” Excerpt From Ex-Patriots, book 2 of the Ex- Heroes series by Peter Clines
It's best said by Robert Burns: “The best laid plans of mice and men often go awry.” This is what happens in "The Walking Dead" clearly illustrates the fallacy of "Continuity Of Government" ("C.O.G."); whether it's in the Real World or Sci-Fi S.H.T.F. situations.
There's a Walking Dead comic called The Walking Dead: Typhoon (idk if it's canon or not) they talked about China and how it got infected. I heard that the Chinese government tried to contain it but the Capital of China, Beijing, went dark and so is the government. They never mentioned anything about the president after that. Probably he is dead or still alive somewhere but the interesting is that the president of that timeline is President Jiang Zemin the real world former president of China. But the thing is the President Jiang Zemin served his term until 2003 but the virus brokeout globally in 2010. But imo if the US President is still alive he'll definitely be with the high ranking military officers and the Chairman of the Joints Chief of Staff which at that time was either Admiral Michael Mullen or General Martin Dempsey (idk if it's gonna be the real life people or a fictional character) but imo I still think the President is still alive like if you think about the possibilities. The US houses many military bunkers, secret bases like Area 51 and probably a Aircraft Carrier out there in the ocean. But if I'm crazy to think this far I might be thinking of the US President and other countries president like Russia, China, UK etc meeting up and trying to make a cure. But that's just my speculation.
I'm wondering what happened to the US troops deployed in iraq and Afghanistan. Those poor soldiers were left forever in a country with walkers and insurgents both trying to kill them with no way back home to their families. They should make a series on this. It would have been really cool if Abraham's character was a solider who made it out with the last plane leaving Afghanistan..
I like how you pointed out that the Plan, what ever it was, wasn't setup for a Zombie Apocalypse, since such a thing did not really exist (meaning the zombie genre), but instead I think the Plan was designed in case of just a biological outbreak, as it seems. I am sure in the real world, as crazy as it may sound, the US govt. has a plan for a Zombie Apocalypse. I would better that many countries have think tanks just creating plans for different things. Sure it may seem like maybe not since the US govt had failed in dealing with things in the past, like most recently COVID, but COVID was not a world ending event. But I have no doubt, behind the scene people in the govt. were getting ready if COVID turned out to become even more serious as a possible extinction event. Personally, I originally thought COIVD was Nature's way to deal with human population, but as it turned out, which is still not 100% factual, COVID might have been a human product and Nature had nothing to do with it. One thing is for sure as we have seen in TWD, the Earth will continue even after humans die off. In the TWD world Nature is slowly eliminating what humans have been, with Nature taking over cities and towns with overgrown. In FTWD we saw how Nature even washed out roads and bridges.
Tom Clancys The Division brings to life one of these scenarios, it's not zombies but an act of bioterrorism. The game was based off a real experiment or 2 to determine the U.S. and it's capabilities to fight a biological weapon or release, how we would win or lose, etc. You could apply that to TWD and it might just work
Covid is definitely man made. The funding for the gain of function research was from the DoD. The vaccine is from the DoD. Our own government funded its creation, then scrambled for a cure because they never intended for it to get out. At least not when it did.
TWD teased going to Washington and seeing what happened to the government but we never got that we just ran into these communities run by Negan type characters.
For those interested, I know there are a lot of books on continuity of government, but a very good one is "Raven Rock", by Garrett Graff (subtitled The Story of the U.S. Government's Secret Plan to Save Itself - While the Rest of Us Die). Not withstanding the dramatic subtitle, it's a good look at the evolution of COG with tons of references.
In a real world scenario, at least initially, the best option for survival and security from the dead would be in the mountains. They can't climb rocks and cliff sides. Find some scenic retreats like where the Buddhists live in mountainside temples in central Asia. As long as you have access to clean water, can grow plants and raise animals you can watch the world die off in almost complete safety.
If it's TOO secure getting there might be a problem. In addition unless it's been well provisioned with supplies then getting out and going to places where you can salvage will be another problem.
Back in 2010 Frank Darabont was going to have the first episode of season two play out as following the soldier in the tank that Rick was in at the beginning of season one. It was going to explain how the military got overrun and how he ended up in the tank, but of course when they fired it kind of just went down from there.
Something I haven't seen mentioned. Omaha is where Offutt AFB is. Home of "The Hole" The first Nuclear Command Bunker we built, it was the command post for SAC, now Strategic Command. the Orders for the USS Pennsylvania most likely came from there. Its where Bush landed on 9/11. Thats where the Joint Chiefs would have fallen back to once the wheels started to fall off.The problem with Raven Rock and Mt Weather is that too many people would show up at the gate thinking its safe. There are probably massive hoards surrounding both, then the supplies ran out. Whereas Omaha didn't fall, probably because the military prioritized keeping it under control from the start, so "The Hole" would stay secure. Maybe that's why the CRM gassed Omaha. to create a hoard that would surround "The Hole"? That's one way to stage a coup.
Yes COG was developed in the case of war or a terrorist attack. However, with the dead reanimating, that would put a cog in the COG. (intended) Now, could there still be nuclear powered naval ships and subs out in the oceans with military and even civilian survivors on them? After all, not all would have had the bad luck like the USS Pennsylvania did. As for resupply, lots of small islands in the South Pacific to find food. By the way, the U.S. Navy travels in a fleet with an aircraft carrier as its main ship. Obviously the fleet would not be complete due to loss of some ships not being to handle all the walking dead but there could still be some ships out there maybe even with ships from other navies with them. Disclaimer: I reserve the right to be wrong.
Noticed there were no government officials after the very beginning of the series. Which had me thinking that no one should rely on the government to do anything. Just like in real life all people should plan, prepare and work like you are on your own. The only thing you can count on is that everyone else will be demanding that you give out whatever supplies you have prepared with to survive the problem. Moochers are ever present with us today.
*_I've been wanting episodes or a spinoff with the military and government giving up on trying to save people cuz it was too dangerous so they left and went to Antarctica cuz walkers freeze and get stuck to ice._*
Great video man ! There’s a reason you are the only TWDU content creator I follow. The CRM (imo) is a complete government remnant. With all forms of government that hadn’t died or been killed. It’s a splinter cell of sorts. But who knows
The problem with relying on the military is that each soldier, each sailor, each personnel has a family back home they will be worried about. It's one thing for a soldier to be deployed overseas and you believe your actions are making it safer back home. But if there's a complete societal collapse and zombies wandering around eating people.... a soldier from Utah that has been deployed in Oregon could care less about duty and more concerned about people he knows back in Utah. Desertion seems very likely as groups of soldiers will be taking whatever assets and supplies to make their way home. Suddenly the military is short staff and there may be fire fights to prevent some troops from leaving, etc. It will be complete chaos. I believe the scene in FTWD, where the soldiers and the CO went to raid some building and it's implied that the troops just fragged the CO.
They couldn't deal with society falling apart though. When everything around you falls apart, even your work schedule and logistics and cohesion will fall apart at some point, when your colleagues die or dip en mass and no more orders come in, when your PD gets abandoned or overrun or looted, when power goes out, etc. At least in major urban hubs without a strong military backup or assistance, you'd have a hard time. I reckon smaller communities could prolly turn to self-policing, deputizing and using the land or close by resources or stockpiles to their advantage, but in big towns and cities, it would be hard to keep cohesion and order. They can hardly in some topics nowadays - when everything falls apart and everyone dying turns into a rabies cannibal wanting to eat you, it'll be a lot harder.
@@Unknown-ek1oxnot just that but in the real world we have cops that shoot at innocent civilians just because they heard an acorn falling I don't really think we should trust them anymore
I believe that by that point there would be no Bunker complex left operating or life viable. Considering the rush of things (Cobalt was a last resort solution, a last resort solution that happened extremely quickly, so you can imagine that chaos was overwhelming at an alarming rate), rations and facility management alone would leave only a few complexes viable while the rest would have needed weeks and months of preparation before entering service. Knowing that rations would have been limited, it would have eventually caused whatever administrative branch left to either resort to relocation to another base of operations, thus abandoning the facility, or it will resort to scavenging which seems extremely unlikely, considering the secrecy that would have surrounded the whole affair, you can't just send personnel outside of secret facilities while knowing that they could compromise, even indirectly if chased by undead, the whole facility. In regard to Military, I think it does exist, but it is by no way considered an official state military whatsoever since by that point most governmental structures would not exist, some could have eventually joined to the CRM and other similar post-collapse organizations, while others would act either as a no longer official platoon or long ago deserted soldiers surviving alone or in some random pocket of survivors. All in all there are a lot of things left unanswered, such as special military units and organizations (Seals, marines, British SAS, NATO, UN), CIA, MI5 and the list goes on, certainly a lot of juice is left to be extracted from the whole universe
The thing is, if they did survive, what would you be president of if the structured government and military have collapsed the title means nothing. Also if they were to appear at any point after the supplies ran out such as an extended period of time the legitimacy of their authority would be, because of how much time is passed so again it would mean nothing.
the military failed because if they didn't, it would be a really short series. Let's be real though, do we really think highly trained soldiers, drones, tanks, nukes are going to fail against a bunch of reanimated corpses?
@ReichwingConspirator that doesn't make any sense either, why would "most people" turn or die? We'd really have to understand how the "virus" infected people in the first place. We know eventually it's in every living person, because everyone turns after they die. But did it infect already dead corpses? How would there initially be such a huge number of the dead that would pose such a threat to the living? Outside of morgues and funeral homes, there aren't really that many freshly dead corpses around.
Assuming the president survived the initial outbreak, his term would still end after his 4th or 8th year depending on when it happened. The SOTH would become acting president, and the line of succession would follow until a new president is elected. Cabinet positions would remain unchanged unless they died, resigned, or were fired.
Worst thing they did was kill off Alicia's brother... the dude on drugs... he was the best of all of them. Him and the teacher that got shot in the helicopter of alllll places by a random bullet.
I was playing Lords of the Realm II (a medieval game) and they have a USA and American maps to play. I imagine it could be factions arising after a natural disaster but now they are stuck in effectively a Medieval setting.
Why does one person dying mean it's going to fall? The entire bunker probably has sealed off sections with security checkpoints, cameras everywhere and armed soldiers with automatic rifles. Even if someone does die without noticing it would only take one or two guys to take out a slow-moving zombie. If anyone else got bit, they would have hours to deal with that too. I don't see how any of these secure places could fall from the inside from one or two zombies.
If the zombie apocalypse happened IRL I imagine it would go like WWZ, would there be losses and casualties, absolutely, but would humanity and civilization collapse, no, not as a whole, maybe certain continents that couldn't successfully contain the outbreak to certain areas but humanity as a whole would survive. Mainly because the impact the military would have on any zombie scenario is vastly diminished for dramatic effect.
That could be a great storyline, the President and the vice President or Secretary of State alive in separate bunkers and starting to scheme against each other!
Bunker is very temporary thing either way. 1 person suddenly dies within the bunker and can decimate the population. Just like what happened in TWD when people started dying of illness and prison turned into chaos temporarily.
Most soldiers may have abandoned their posts to be with their families. They see them as a priority rather than a duty in a world that has collapsed. With that being said, I would like to see a TWD spin-off highlighting the U.S. government
That (among other things) is why I liked Z Nation a lot more (that I would ever like anything from The Asylum! Oo ). The President shows up here in season 4 as the one hundred thirtieth and something President of the United States (since all the previous ones were killed and the ranking kept going down), there is a plan to be unleashed ("Black Rainbow", a flesh-eating bacteria that is supposed to kill the zombies, and all humans who are unprotected). But not only that, the series also addresses other topics that I only noticed TWD was missing afterwards: what about nuclear power plants? What about nuclear warheads and the strategies behind them, such as the "Dead Hand" in Russia, which can automatically trigger a nuclear strike? What about sealed-off military bases? These are points that are actually important, but were accepted as "well, that's just the way it is" in TWD.
most soldiers would prioritise the safety of their families and go awol to get to them so the military would effectively have been disbanded rather than defeated
He got lost, fell up stairs. Didn't turn into a zombie because they were already a zombie years before the outbreak. They're a special zombie...instead of craving flesh, they shamble around trying to sniff minors.
I still dont understand why they never even try to leave Georgia, or go to the shore or something, around S4-S5, it can't be that bad everywhere, they should try to find new terrain. A space station one would be pretty cool. Maybe someone at nasa at ground control talks with them keeping them informed until the individual gets attacked.
I would have to argue that the President and both line of succession and upper military command all survived. More than likely, the P.A.D.R.E. aspect was a scenario similar to the Enclave in Fallout. That's what it seems like, especially if the island shown is Alcatraz. Now as to where the President could be...that is an interesting question. Way I see it, there are at least 5 possibilities: 1 & 2: Weather Mountain or Raven Rock. These are fallout shelters that have existed since the Cold War. 3: Under the White House. If you've ever seen "Olympus has Fallen," then you know about the system of bunkers under the White House. 4: The Pentagon. Unlike most facilities, the Pentagon doesn't have just a fallout shelter or bunker, but it also has a working self-contained nuclear reactor, which would provide unlimited power if needed. 5: Cheyenne Mountain, Colorado. Cheyenne Mountain is where NORAD is, which houses the facility to launch nuclear weapons. It also houses the DEW, Delayed Early Warning, system, and thus has the capability, being isolated and securable, of housing anyone associated with a Continuity of Government program. 6: Unknown. Why? Because POTUS was able to take off in Air Force One for an undetermined time. Military protocol would have been that if an outbreak happened on the plane, infected would be eliminated without question, including POTUS or anyone else, and if needed, Command would find a place to land -- probably at an Air Force base like Wright-Patterson in Ohio or Edwards in Arizona. At least, those are my educated guesses as to where those involved with Continuity of Government protocols would be in the Walking Dead universe.
or they might show another show where they have fortified military bunkers throughout different regions in the midwest and eastcoast and they emerge from it making contact.
The Civic republic republic was just remnants of the Philadelphia national guard Edit: they later also take in other military units and also WE NEED TO KNOW ABOUT FORT BENNING LIKE HOW THEY FALL THEY LITERALLY HAD 1 OF THE RANGER BATTALION STATIONED THERE KEEP IN MIND RANGERS ARE JUST UNDER THE TEIR ONE OPERATORS LIKE SEALS AND DELTA HOWWWWW AMC?????
I have wondered since the show started, what happened to those people that was running those i.c.b.m nuclear missle bunkers? Those cats had perfect shelter and weapons, food, medical facilities. No walkers was getting in by breaking down the doors.
I havent watched TWD in a long time so correct me if Im wrong, is it possible the president could have ended up in some sort of off shore oil rig similar to where the Enclave from Fallout ended up?
they should do a season of all seperate stories set in the first two weeks of the outbreak..get the view from the military..the president the senators eyes..it could easily work..each episode a different group of people..a new perspective on the horrors of the first month
The fanfiction i have seen and read through most are just scene descriptions and background plots, there is very little dialogue. That has been the complaint about fear is the dialogue doesn't progress . Everyone can write general plot background but the writers that can make realistic dialogue are a premium commodity.
This show just got so bad after season 2. Never telling us any of the juicy things we wanted. Frank darabont was the show. no goverment stuff, even fear barely showing us anything, and the best government what happened story was the cdc. IN SEASON1. They did jack for 9 years! lol.
So I've got to put my two cents in. PSA: on mobile so apologies for the formating The Ones Who Live has since revealed that the Pennsylvania National Guard now make up the CRM. A logical conclusion given that guard units tend to be more loyal to where they are assigned. Given that Operation Cobalt is essentially a fall back plan for the US government to pull out and back towards Hawai'i, it makes sense to engage scorched earth tactics on the way. Infrastructure can be rebuilt. My problem comes from the fact that the only island in Hawai'i that is suitable enough for military "occupation" is Oahu. You've got Pearl, Wheeler Airfield, Marine Corps Hawai'i and two other Army installations on the island. That same island also has a population of roughly 1 mil civilians. Now to do the math. Assuming that the Pacific and Southern Fleets are called home. That's roughly 30,000 sailors alone. Include the marines, soldiers, and airmen of all the previously mentioned bases, we'll round the number to a total of 75,000 troops. Not including the sudden influx from elsewhere like Korea, Japan, and those doing training in the Philippines or Thailand. That is not a large enough force to keep the population in check. (Note I'm not including a Federalized Hawaiian National Guard in that assumption). But given that most of the island would likely be trying to get back to the lower 48, especially those in Waikiki, this significantly lowers the population. Its once people start trying to return that everything becomes interesting. The president is not likely to get sent anywhere in the lower 48 (Camp David, Cheyenne, etc) for the obvious reasons including the ridiculous numbers in walker hordes that *could* easily overwhelm site security. Especially at Camp David. If the President is likely to get sent anywhere, it would be Hawai'i. Even more likely to be Wheeler Army Airfield. Given that the resources on the Island include USARPAC, PACCOM, and the 25 ID, its not likely that the President and Cabinet don't recognise that as a strategic asset for potential later use. It's also not unlikely that other larger units were pulled into the island to truly bolster up the army. The IC would likely be working overtime trying to figure out wtf is going on and if the rest of the world is dealing with the outbreak and how (especially China, Russia, and India given the higher populations and similar military capabilities). But units like SEALs, Delta, Green Berets, and SF units would likely be used to extract HVP (high value personnel) to bring back to Hawai'i if the risk is acceptable. These being government officials and their families, scientists, and other individuals that the givernment deems important. The problem comes from producing sustainable food sources for that large of a population in that small of an area. Now, it is possible to do so if you include the flight deck on the carriers, but its not likely seeing as the would be used to launch ISR and other platforms to gather information on the rest of the world, until fuel ran out. The other problem is when the ammo finally runs dry, then the military is going to have to start learning hand to more indepth which will likely cause mass casualties. Someone mentioned that cuba would be a good area for those in the Southeast and Atlantic Fleet. Not exactly, the Cuban government would likely crumble under the weight of this catastrophe. Once the US set foot on the island, you have Gitmo and all the prosoners inside that you have to figure what to do with. Sure, summary execution is on the table, but we all know that the military would still keep some type of moral code until it becomes absolutely impossible to do so. Yes, I'm aware the government was executing civilans en masse, but they were also under the impression that there was no other alternative. Bote the remorse the Okafore felt in TOWL. World Beyond did demonstrate that Marines did figure out pretty early on that traumatic brain injury is the only way to permanently put down a walker, BUT you have to remember what was going on in the world at this time. The US were fighting in CoIn operations in the Middle East. This was a different animal entirely. Military are trained to aim center mass and the book World War Z brought this up that it was almost impossible to switch from center mass to headshots on a moving target in a matter of hours. Of course, this means nothing to most, but FTWD did portray the military semi- accurately (I have my own problems with it) in terms of the National Guard getting destroyed. Active, especially combat units, I find highly unlikely to suffer that type of loss. I've seen a lot of people bring up that carriers could be used as mobile command structures at sea, but... Those ships have a tendancy of breaking a boat load (pun intended) and have to have parts flown in. Potable water at sea is the most crucial thing that could and will likely go wrong. Not only are the crew having to drink it, but so are crops if the crew decide to turn in that direction. The fleet around the carrier is likely to suffer and most ariel operations are going to cease completely. Unless its pertains to distributing food and resources to the other vessels. Those that were deployed likely stayed together as sort of raiding parties fighting a two-way battle against the undead and the people that they were fighting originally. That war ain't going to stop any time soon. Coaliton forces like Royal Infantry and German army in the region are likely just going to try and high tail by ground back home, the Americans are likely going to follow because they have no where else to go. Someone else brought this up in a comment, but most military when everything really started to fall apart wound go awol and find their families (or at least try to), however those in places like Hawai'i or Wainwright, Alaska would have no real choice but to stay. That creates a different problem with depression and suicide which then cause more problems with fresh walkers inside the secured areas. On a ship, it can be easier depending on the type. Sub: torpedo tube before they turn and launch them out. Let the pressure do its thing. Carrier: overboard. Destroyers, Cruisers, Littorals, and etc: much more difficult due to the smaller size. Those who've mentioned the ISS: those that were up there during the fall died up there. Whether they turned or not doesn't matter considering the starion would have either started dropping back into lower atmo, or broke apart and still fell to lower atmo. I'm more intrigued to find out where the Canadian government went or if they hitched a ride with the Americans to consolidate resources once everything started collapsing. Before someone asks or mentions (and not to offend anybody) the Mexican government and all those of Latin America likely collapsed and fell under Cartel rule if we are to assume that Cartels have the same power they do now.
That's a book. haha Or at least a good primer if anyone is writing an apocalypse society collapse story. Good stuff. In Fear (I think it was) a guy spoke about us bombing up in Canada - Vancouver. And by the US it seemed (around the same time LA was bombed) The guy in the ISS said he saw the lights go out all over the world. That should mean it was a global event. It would be really cool to see a series based on a US military unit (where everyone else on the US base died) in another country - trying to get home back at the start of it all.
In the FTWD radio waves podcast which is a fictional podcast set in twdu during the fall. In one episode they talk about Operation Noah in which the remaining government "took to the skies" in my mind this seems to be a hint at the CRM with helicopters and taking to the skies. Noah obviously refers to Noahs ark
I stopped watching the main show partly because they never addressed the origins of the virus(?) and because the characters never traveled beyond the area they resided in. I stopped caring about the wash rinse repeat story telling of having a new baddy every two years and all the filler episodes dealing yet with more interpersonal and intrapersonal drama.
Trading sone of the other comments I saw a point made about the zombies being slow. I’ve always thought it odd that as the years progressed zombies were always a looming threat whose numbers never dwindle. Essentially to clear out an area a small community could go out and lure zombies in an area into a traps at burn them all. At some point a threshold would be reached where the dead become increasingly more scarce as the world’s population is severely lacking numbers. This crisis could become increasingly more manageable as long as people sleep in locked rooms and have proactive measures to monitor the health of others. Now that the universe is potentially introducing faster zombies it’s almost too little too late at this point.
In the spin off they should do civil republic flashbacks to the beginning when it was formed maybe a flashback to president or othor officials repairing to evacuate or going to Philadelphia
The president is probably a self aware super computer President John Henry Eden in a bunker somewhere.

The thing about the Wildfire Virus is that there is zero containment. Everyone is already infected, any death from any cause will result in a walker that could potentially create more. All it takes is one unobserved death inside even the most secure bunker can spell certain doom for the occupants.
Outside the bunker you have more freedom of movement.
use hart monitors etc ?
They prob didnt think to even do such a thing tbh, now we can prob get a spinoff based on that alone
But still very briefly they were in DC lol
The Show just chose not to go into DC and instead simply show the skyline of the Washington monument.
1) The main cast all die
2) The crew would come across the army making a push across country like in WWZ book
3) They walk off unto the sunset just to live another day.
All three aren’t bad tbh
As soon as they made it that everyone is infected and when anyone dies they turn, the entire story or rebuilding was dead. At that point, there is no rebuilding because everything could get wiped out at any time.
The CRM is technically that army but I haven’t really watched any of the spin offs/continuations once Rick and the crew got to new Alexandrea
I would be happy with 1 if properly done
Also happy with 2 if it happened
I mean, we saw a powerful group of centralized people declare the Sixth French Republic in Daryl's show, so it's not out of the realm of possibilities that the CRM would declare a new United States or a Second United States or whatever.
that seems SUS :> id like to see a spinoff of webisodes that lead into this with the president now. i'm highly invested
makes perfect sense.
Never could buy that slow moving zombies could over take the military. They eventually could be funneled into kill boxes
All I will say is if you've seen the first episode of the ones who live. I love how they handled it and I feel vindicated that my theory was right.
When you have people that turn to walkers inside your organization it’s high risk that you’ll be taken down from the inside
Beal is only the head of the CRM the actual CR has a separate Government and likely President atleast that's the impression I get
@@topsdaily_productions That may end up being the case. I personally feel like their new govt functions more like a council with representatives from the major departments acting like a Congress. If Beal is head of the military, my guess is he gets his way more often than not lol

But then they all died."
Which leads to the question, "Okay, but how did they all die with all of those preperations and effective countermeasures?"
To which the show's response is universally "I dunno.
Deanna being a congressman would have known about it and likely other governmental facilities. I think Stealth from Ex Heroes had it right:
“So the Mount is now under the Army’s control?”
“Technically, unless you seceded from the United States at some point in the past two years … yeah.”
“Which United States are you referring to?”
The question froze Smith and Freedom. It jarred the others, too. The man in the suit coughed once. “I … I’m not sure I understand your question.”
Stealth crossed her arms. Nevada. New York. Oregon. Texas. Washington.” She paused for a moment, then added, “The District of Columbia.”
Smith shifted his feet.
“So I ask,” she continued, “which states are still running and operating to the extent they can form a united nation, one that you and these soldiers can represent?”

Typhoon is canon for the comic universe, in the twd comics the apocalypse starts in 2003
I'm wondering what happened to the US troops deployed in iraq and Afghanistan. Those poor soldiers were left forever in a country with walkers and insurgents both trying to kill them with no way back home to their families. They should make a series on this. It would have been really cool if Abraham's character was a solider who made it out with the last plane leaving Afghanistan..
Would be an amazing Webisode or mini-series that has a soldier fighting for years to make it from the middle east back to the US

You could apply that to TWD and it might just work
I'm sure they've had top doctors/scientists researching the possibility of a zombie outbreak for decades lol
The US government actually confirmed they have a plan for a zombie apocalypse. Several actually.
Dude you need to stop trusting your government with your hypothetical future. Stop trusting them anyways.
As if there wasn't enough of them 😂
And that is all this show was. One of them after another.
That's one way to stage a coup.
interesting
Great video, James! Very, very interesting what happened/happens to the government. Keep up the good work!
Thanks as always Snake, will do!
Raven rock is fully staffed today so it is not that far to say that the government remnants are stationed there
Noticed there were no government officials after the very beginning of the series.

That would be so cool
frozen walkers wouldn't be too exciting to watch though. Eventually all the survivors would die and turn into frozen walkers themselves.
meanwhile down in a secret bunker the president says nope i aint going out too many dead people walking lol
Great video man ! There’s a reason you are the only TWDU content creator I follow. The CRM (imo) is a complete government remnant. With all forms of government that hadn’t died or been killed. It’s a splinter cell of sorts. But who knows
Thanks!! Yes it could be - I hope we get more info on it and they do not just 'brush over it'
@@TWDExplained same dude. Same
The problem with relying on the military is that each soldier, each sailor, each personnel has a family back home they will be worried about.
In real life, local cops could have take care of those slow moving, very weak zombies.
Keep in mind that, everybody is infected, and when they die, they turn, that why at least 7 bilion or more are dead or infected or zombies
Imo the military was just extremely incompetent in this universe
Just like real life.
What about the Navy? 10 or 11 nuclear powered carriers? Many nuclear powered submarines?
He either went to camp David, and/or underground bunkers!
What if the cosmonaut is still alive in the iss and he's not infected and he is the cure ?
Imagine Rick and his group gettin ahold of a presidential bulletproof vehicle governor wouldn’t stand a chance😂
The thing is, if they did survive, what would you be president of if the structured government and military have collapsed the title means nothing.
Also if they were to appear at any point after the supplies ran out such as an extended period of time the legitimacy of their authority would be, because of how much time is passed so again it would mean nothing.
good point
the military failed because if they didn't, it would be a really short series.
Bunkers can be a death trap in situations like this, one person dies and it falls.

When I think about it, it hardly matters what happened to the president.
If it was Brandon he probably got turned into an actual zombie…

yeah it was me, sorry yall
The bunkers we have today are all connected with rail lines and underground roadways. Connect from west to east coast
That wouldn't surprise me one bit.
if the government wasn't around then who's cutting the lawns?
Bunker is very temporary thing either way.
1 person suddenly dies within the bunker and can decimate the population.
Just like what happened in TWD when people started dying of illness and prison turned into chaos temporarily.
If you listen to the radio on tyrese's death scene (while hes in the car) you get to hear some of the CRM origins
Imagine someone like Thomas Eckhart, that would be dope!

Way I see it, there are at least 5 possibilities:
1 & 2: Weather Mountain or Raven Rock.
At least, those are my educated guesses as to where those involved with Continuity of Government protocols would be in the Walking Dead universe.
all good possibilities
Yeah this is true, the president is probably either at Mt. Weather or in the PEOC under the White House.

The Ones Who Live has since revealed that the Pennsylvania National Guard now make up the CRM.
That's a book. haha
Or at least a good primer if anyone is writing an apocalypse society collapse story. Good stuff.
In Fear (I think it was) a guy spoke about us bombing up in Canada - Vancouver. And by the US it seemed (around the same time LA was bombed)
The guy in the ISS said he saw the lights go out all over the world. That should mean it was a global event.
It would be really cool to see a series based on a US military unit (where everyone else on the US base died) in another country - trying to get home back at the start of it all.

Probably was rushed to a bunker under the whitehouse or was air lifted off the top of the white house was evacuated
