What I Wish I Knew Before My First Cruise

- I went on my first cruise on Carnival Freedom and I learned a lot that I wish I had known before I went. I want to share with you some of the things I learned so that you can have the greatest cruise experience possible. What tips and tricks did I forget?
*There was a fire on the ship right after our trip but we were ok!
I remember my first cruise I watched countless RUclips videos getting tips and advice and specifically tours of the boat I was going to be going on and it made it more enjoyable knowing where to go and navigating
I have been on a few cruises. I bring a cup with me and just fill it up at the buffet or have it filled in a restaurant.
Thanks for these tips, Joe! Hubby & I are scheduled for our 1st cruise in May, & we only scheduled 1 excursion/shore day, leaving ourselves more "play" time.
Lots of great info for people taking their first cruise. Uncle Joe just hoping you had a wonderful time, well deserved❤Enjoyed watching and thank you for sharing.
@tiana0279
Duh I already know that!
Glad you had a good time and got off before the funnel fire on that ship. I have cruised on disney. Disney does not charge for soda... has free use machines on deck 11... I recommend bringing a travel mug/ tervis/corkcicle/etc that seals to get drinks and have them during movies/ shows/ back in your room/ etc.
Magnet hooks are gold... hang hats/ Mouse ears(Disney) / etc.
Disney (and maybe the others ) provides soap and shampoo, so unless you are staying other places beyond the cruise, you can save packing space.
My first Cruise was a 4 night... we didn't do the excursions at Nassau... and our other port day was cx due to weather.... so be advised that port days can be adjusted/canceled due to weather.
The dramamine worked wonders for me on my cruise, the nondrowsy one! Definitely needed it every day, I get car sick and motion sick randomly so it helped a lot.
Always bring some to be safe. Even if you think you'll be fine cause you don't want to be unwell or paying for the super expensive one on ship
I'm watching this from our sailboat in 40 knot wind.
I just love seeing your videos Joe! Thank you for the tips, this is actually so helpful for someone whos never been on a cruise before.
Thanks for the tips, Joe! 😊
Looks like you had an amazing time on the cruise joe
Thank you for the honest tips Joe! I feel so much gets dressed up as 100% fantastic on social media so it is really refreshing to hear not only the good but things to be prepared for aswell. Really enjoyed the video 😊 x
Great advise Joe
Looks like a well deserved vacation. I'm jealous!
Thanks Joe, that was very informative!
Lot great info Joe thanks so much for sharing and I'm glad you had a blast
Thank you Joe for all the tips. Have a wonderful time with the Crazy pieces.
That was rather interesting. Thank you. I enjoy your videos.
Thsnks for the tips joe❤ cant wait to plan my first cruise
I use the pressure point bracelets for sea sickness. They also work for morning sickness sometimes!!
This was so informative!! A cruise is definately on my bucket list!!
Joe, awesome information. Enjoy Enjoy Enjoy!!!!
Thank you for the tips Joe! I've never been on a cruise before but my sisters tell me I need to go. They love it.
Agree that prescription patches are 100% worth it! My husband forgot his on our 3rd cruise and he was miserable until we stopped. 😔 I’m glad you had a good time! We’d love to go on a cruise again!! Hopefully someday. Buying things at ports during your trip is usually cheaper. We bring drinks with us. Like a case of water. 😁
BTW: your beard is looking really good!!
Thank you for sharing your tips with us. I said this year I want to go on a cruise do I appreciate you giving a heads up. 😊
Thanks Joe for some of the tips. I’m doing an Alaska cruise in September.
These are good tips thank you 😊
People also decorate their doors so its easier to find the room
I keep a cruise bag ready it never gets unpacked has all my stuff in it and all my nessasary things for cruises. As for motion sickness get the sea bands I never take it off and I am someone who gets sick in the car it's a life saver.
Well having just watch this video, it was nice to see , first seeing the professional side of Joe , wish you do more of theses on your own. Brilliant information , i could not believe Hallie stucj here fingers in her ears when the evacution practise alarm went off .
I agree how expensive the hidden costs mount up, this also can happen in hotels too, its frightening when people go to check out, then find they havent calculated enough extra holiday money. For on costs.
Glad you found new friends, yes you missed a sea trip but found an amazing beach.
Love this Video thank you Joe, take me next time I never been on a cruise😱😱
Great video!
I have had motion sickness issues my entire life they have an all natural ginger dramamine...its the best in my opinion it still works quick and efficent but doesnt cause the drowsiness 😊
Thank yo for sharing.
Hi from Australia 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
Loved the Vlog I’m glad u had fun Joe I would love hanging out with u on a cruise or anyday
Good tips.
Joe you're so awesome 🎉🎉🎉 love watching your content--- just wanted to say that for your record keeping, the video said carnival cruise 2023!!! 😮
Ah such good advice . Your a nice man. 😀
And be sure to check in with your friends onboard if you're having fun for half the night lol! Glad you had fun Joe❤
Thanks Joe, I’m not able to experience a cruise due to motion sickness issues 😢, cursed with it, I didn’t even do well on a ferry 😂. So this is nice to see perspective in addition to the other CP vlogs
As someone who spent 4 out of a 5 day cruise vomiting violently. Using all meds, patches you name it. The decision was - will never cruise again. The only 1 day I didn't be sick was the island day. I was 1st off boat and last back on. I think if you are very sensitive don't do it.
I've cruised several times. I found that if you can get a balcony room you hardly get sea sick. The window room did the same for me with the sea sickness.
Also next time try Royal Caribbean or Celebrity. You get a little more included in your cruise fee.
My last cruise was a 7 day on celebrity to the caribbean. I had a balcony room and even the fancy coffees were included in my fare. Totally worth it.
Great tips. Glad you had fun and met so many new people also. Best part of cruising.
I'm sorry if this is offensive but I wanted to say that people like yourself sharing your cruise tips could be the difference of an amazing cruise or one where people leave the boat thinking if I only knew to take this, book tours in advance etc. You were so kind to take the time to comment.😊
You aren't getting any fancy coffee "included" on Royal. And Celebrity isn't nearly as kid friendly. And a lot more expensive.
good info video
Great video and great tips Joe. I did my first cruise on Oct 2022 on the Carnival Horizon...my next is on Carnival Breeze in Oct 2024. I wouldn't schedule more than one excursion in one day though.
definitely one a day from here on out.
Great video! Sorry you didn't get a balcony.
Have my second guessing the year 😂
miss you joe
First of all I never book a cruise from October to January. When I do book one, I want cabin as low as possible. If there's rough weather, you don't feel it as much in your room. Meds are the very first thing I pack. SeaBands are also a help
Aquapressure bands help with sea sickness
We always buy a all you can soft drinks, when you buy your ticket.
Scopalamine patches from the doctor helped us so much.
Hey Joe, take it from someone who gets motion & sea sick a lot... powdered Ginger Root capsules, sold in vitamin isle, all natural and no side effects . Dramamine & Bonnie make me sleepy, dopey & horrible cotton mouth.
I was really impressed with the ginger tabs behind the ear.
I went on a cruise (my only one thus far) a few years ago with Royal Caribbean and a lady I met on the hotel shuttle told us that Carnival cruises were full of people who were there to get drunk and that it was a total party on the ships with people vomiting everywhere. Did you see any of that? BTW, I totally recommend RC Cruises. They treated us so well.
I feel like going on a cruise or really anywhere with Joe would be so fun. Hey Joe wana meet up?
Hey Joe when I'm going to take your Fiji trip that you want a couple years ago on that birthday wheel 🛞
I have been on a cruise nine times December will be 10th
❤️
We are planning on cruising for 25th anniversary well it was supposed to be in 2025 but because our daughters have big life events coming we postponed to 2026 . We are going to Alaska . We have one daughter graduating from
College across the country in 2025 , and a daughter getting married this August .
Disney cruise is all more fun..
The ship dr has seasick medications..
I think he meant the year to be 2024
Yes, so did I and some others as I read in comments.
I want do a cruise but that clip of all the people by the pool has put me off
Joe if i wasn't a taken woman i would probably try to ask you out.I just think you are an amazing soul and it doesnt hurt you are easy on the eye 😉
Did they mean to put 2023 in the beginning part?
I thought the same
I think it was an accident….after all it’s 2024
Lol nope it was a typo. Supposed to be 2024
Thank you for this informative vlog.
I think it's for a reason that on a cruiseship the rooms are called cabins.
You pointed out the risks for claustrophobic reactions.
There can be also for agoraphobic anxiety.
As for motion sickness, I can only confirm the advice in the thread for ginger tablets.
And I agree, do on an excursion something specific for that region far from home.
Off road dune/sand buggy driving can be done in Arizona, I presume?
I thought you might have tips to discover local lifestyle, cuisine or history.
Hopefully Joe, this cruise trip made good your missed vacation in Fiji.
Wishing you more interesting first time experiences.
(Is 2023 in the beginning an error?)
@@beyondcrazy😂😂😂😂 2024
Not to get lost or tell someone so they don't worry
😂 post it on the door
I was thinking I wanted to go on a cruise, but I just realized how out of my budget a cruise is for my husband and I.
Hey Joe! Did you enjoy sea days or port days better? Looks like it was a great trip!
Both!
@@beyondcrazy I like that answer! 😄
What is the budget to getting on the cruise?
So this is where you were when the crazy pieces lost you 😅❤🎉
We've thought about going on a cruise and we have decided it is probably not for us because we are claustrophobic and also we have severe food allergies
You have 2023 on the caption at 0:03
otherwise a great vid, thank Joe
2023?
Hey!
I have a question about the muster stations.
You mentioned that they were assigned based on your room.
If an emergency occurs during the day while most people are away from their rooms, do you have to report to your assigned location or do you just go to the nearest one?
You report to your assigned muster station no matter where you are on the ship. You do not go to your room first either; go directly to your muster as they have life jackets at the muster station.
Yes you report to your assigned muster station. I have a feeling it will be chaos, but they are all assigned assumably so they can know who is missing.
@@missymyers7043 , Thank you! That makes sense, but also kinda scary since Joe mentioned how easy was to get lost.
@@beyondcrazy , Thank you! That is probably why and to keep some lifeboats from being overloaded and others nearly empty, but still you could be a long way from your station.
I thought the cruise was Match 2024? Is this a different one?
He made the mistake of posting the wrong year.
You can get your money back when you miss your excursion by returning your unused ticket.
umm... Joe it's 2024 the intro says 2023
OMG you are soo right! I never write the date! I can't believe we missed this. hahaha
@@beyondcrazyI thought I time traveled Joe 😂
Ok I have a question for everyone who is able to answer my questions
1) what is the best cruise ship to book for first timers ?
2) what’s the best way to not get seasick ?
3) what is the best cruise ships for people in wheelchairs & do they have wheelchair accessible rooms?
1. I think carnival is always a fun, good first cruise. Any ship is fun and has different amenities. They also have ships leaving both sides of the US.
2. Book a part of the ship with less rocking. I forget which part rocks less, but sometimes you can't control where you are placed. Medications work too like dramamine and also those wristbands, as well as patches.
3. Not sure about this one but there were disabled people on my cruise. I did carnival. You should ask them about wheelchair accessibilities. Some excursions may not be accessible.
I also think Carnival is a good choice for a first cruise. Book a three, four or five day trip to see if you like it.
When booking, you indicate that you are a wheelchair user. The rooms are more spacious. I also am a Wheelchair traveler… cruising is a great way to travel
@@cattabyssI've done 4 on Carnival, I agree. You can play hard or rest hard. Lower level cabin is best for not feeling rough sea as much. I have also seen people needing ADA facilities on a cruise
@speedysmoke my parents have been on a cruise or two every year for 10 years and exclusively on carnival. I know it's a great place to either rest up or play, its all in your hands. I chose to rest when I went. We did two on the Mexican riviera. It was awesome and I often have cruise dreams still to this day! I still want to go.
@@speedysmoke whoops didn't tag ya
2024?
I noticed that as well... wrong year..
@@LilyLongworth-nh5gbhe’s human. Humans make mistakes.
Isn't it 2024?
A typo error made
Just don’t decorate with upside down pineapples. Unless of course you are wanting to😅
Ruff seas lol
Only thing you need your picture ID and birth certificate that’s it
Don’t leave your group
He can do whatever he wants. He’s a grown man.
Me and my daughter love watching your videos and the crazy pieces and crazy middles and Crazy In Love and Max but my daughter is autistic and that loud beeping set her off so I had to close out your video until she fell asleep so maybe future videos you can maybe drown out the loud noises I will continue to watch your videos but I want my daughter to as well cuz she enjoys them
Turn the volume down or skip it. Very easy to do.
why does this say 2023 it is 2024
Oh no way, I get sea sick on a dock, I get motion sick very easy, I could never go on a cruse. I've been sea sick before, you wish you were dead, it's awful. I knew damn well you can feel those big ships rock, no matter what people tell you.🤢
I am the same way. Friends keep asking us to go cruising with them. No way!
Not interested is going on a cruise.
