Joel Spears it’s open every Friday in June, first weekend in September, and you can privately rent for parties, weddings, etc, and rent/stay on the property in Dorothy’s house.
In the 1970"s many people worked at The Magnavox television factory in Greeneville Tn. Their activities club made a deal for discounted tickets to The Land of Oz. Since it's a short day trip to North Carolina it was very popular. This gave the 3000 or so workers a nice place to spend a Saturday or Sunday, and insured good attendance all summer.😎 I was around 10 then but I do remember everything was new, clean and brightly painted. Seems like back then there was always somewhere to go and things to do. Today many people seem rushed unhappy, 😡 and unfriendly. 😤
The monkeys sort of scared me when I was little (am 56 now). But what REALLY scared me was the Abominable in Rudolph (his roar and that one scene when he climbs over those jagged mountain tops). Makes me shiver even now thinking about it.

I had just graduated from college (landscape architecture at RISD) in the spring of 1970 and was invited to be part of the final planting of the theme park, Beech Mtn. Land of Oz....great fun for a couple of months. Glad to see it's preserved
Out of alll the movies in the world, this is the one that gives me nightmares. I cannot STAND this movie. And there are a lot of celebrities who get nightmares from it too. You all enjoy this for me. I’m cringing.
I feel ya. I remember watching it as a kid and just feeling like something was off about it. The munchkins for one, All the bright colors yet there's an evil witch lurking around. The flying monkeys. The weird faces in the trees, the flowers that put you to sleep. But that's also the reason why I love it 😄
THIS IS TRULY A MAGICAL PLACE JUST GO TAKE A STROLL DOWN THE YELLOW BRICK ROAD, MY PARENTS TOOK ME AND MY SISTER THERE IN THE EARLY SEVENTIES WHEN IT FIRST OPENED, AND IVE RETURNED SEVERAL TIMES SINCE, SO GO AND TAKE A STROLL DOWN THE YELLOW BRICK ROAD, AND LET YOUR MEMORIES AWAKEN, AS YOU MAKE NEW ONES AS WELL SOMEWHERE OVER THE 🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈
Why don't they reopen it now? I mean if we all want to visit and the park is getting more attention why not reopen and make money I mean do they still have the rides and stuff?
Alyssa Vermette Because it would cost to replace everything that was destroyed or stolen over the years so there's no point just be glad it's open at all when it is.

That’s nice. I never liked the Wizard of Oz. I’m 67 & watched it when it come on when I was about 7 & I only watched it that 1 time. Never could say why I don’t like it just like I don’t like It’s A Wonderful Life.
Wow, that skip down the yellow brick road at the end was perfect. Now THAT’S journalism baby!!!!
It's called lifestyle writing, not journalism. 🙄
Joel Spears oh thanks for the heads up I’m sorry
No that was cringy at it’s best.

Wonder if they made him skip the entirety of the property - hopefully he didn't follow the wrong sign and skip off the edge
If I was there, I would bring some silver pumps and sing "Ease on Down The Road" while going down the yellow brick! 😆
Blue Butterfly Wellness genius!!
God what a throwback, would have been amazing to be around when it was thriving.
It was a really fun park to visit.
I was 7ish and I loved it. I've always thought about it and when they reopened, I couldn't resist
I went as a child. It was great! All the characters had a house. Vandals of course took them after it closed.
My grandparents took me there one extremely foggy and very cool August day in 1971!
I was waiting for them to show Emerald City.
hawaomar100 me too
Mr. Sanders looks like a combination of all three of Dorothy's companions.
Matt Laramie I cant unsee that.
This is only 4 hours away from my house and I had no clue😱 SOMEONE come with me🙌🏾🔥🔥 this would be awesome for filming skits 👏🏾
It's only open three weekends a year.
SimplyJay97 same!!! I live in SC
I live in nc let’s go
Joel Spears it’s open every Friday in June, first weekend in September, and you can privately rent for parties, weddings, etc, and rent/stay on the property in Dorothy’s house.

I took my boys there years ago. We loved it!
He wore a blue gingham shirt too!! Dorthy inspired!!
Aw man, I’ve wanted to go there for yearsssss!! Love this!! ❤️❤️
So beautiful. The place deserves respect like all places.
I’ve been to the Autumn at Oz festival they host there for the past 2 years! It’s magical! I highly recommend!!!
I have been and it is so worth it! An amazing experience!
It really is a timeless classic
I could enjoy the interview better if the background misic wasnt so loud!😩
I’ll have to add this to my bucket list.
Please, the music is really distracting. Turn it down?
especially for me as a non native speaker much too loud to understand the whole context!
She is just lovely.

That is so very AWESOME, I LOVE it!!!!!!!!!!!!😍😍😍
the ending made my child heart so happy. i need to see this for myself!!!!
I didn’t realize it wasn’t abandoned? Glad to hear it’s still a thing
I searched up how far away this place is from where I live and it's only 5 hours... Definitely gonna be planning a little road trip soon! ☺️
I just Googled it and looks like it's temporarily closed I'm assuming it's just open for special events or something
Am I the only one frightened by The Wizard of Oz??
Nah I was scared of it when I was younger, I'm still scared of it but not as bad
Definitely not the only one
The green witch use to terrify me as a child. I am still not enthused to see her, LOL.
The monkeys sort of scared me when I was little (am 56 now). But what REALLY scared me was the Abominable in Rudolph (his roar and that one scene when he climbs over those jagged mountain tops). Makes me shiver even now thinking about it.

Carrie Fisher was there on the opening day?
Heckle the Hedgehog Yep, she’s Debbie Reynold’s kid! She was probably hanging with Mom.
May she and her mother rest in peace
The first Star Wars film has elements of Wizard of Oz so it all fits.
Lmao wtf people were stealing the bricks
Would love to see the entire park.
So cool I love this movie, I definitely want to visit
3:21 lol watching that exhausted me
Really amazing. I will visit it one day.
I want to go there!! #Goals
I was there in the 70's! Have pics somewhere!
I went there and it was pretty cool .
I was there back in the 70's and still have a couple of pics, wish I knew where the rest were.
The real land of Oz exists in Aberdeen, SD
Precious! 😃
Fantastic
I love this!
I did not know this place existed. I want to visit, lol. 🤗💐💝🦋
This Is Awesome
I definitely want to go
I just fell in love all over again ... can I live there???
Born and raised about 10 minutes from here... BEECH Mountain... :-) Great video though.
I went there as a kid. I forgot all about it until your broadcast.
Lol
Love it!
It’s actually Beech, as in the tree. A girl in my history class actually plays Dorothy there during the summers.
I went when it was still open, and there was a fairy tale village with Jack and the bean stalk.
I want to gooooo!!!!
The Wizard of Oz is a classic.
I would love it if at least one Six Flags park introduced a Wizard of Oz attraction for the film’s 85th anniversary in 2024. Hehehehe.
I need to go now
I want to go!!!
So would love to go to fall fest with dorathy
My mom worked there
Throwback to when I would watch the Wizard Of Oz every single night before I went to bed for 3 months 🙃
Awesome
Wow
Urban exploring videos are pretty cool to watch but a lot of the time I do wonder if those places are really abandoned and if they took anything.
Need to reopen and restore this! Come on us wizard of oz fans deserve this !
Jennifer B They said that was cost to much they what the make.
Waoh.
Ok, this music is way too loud. But otherwise a very interesting video! :)
Oh I want to do this
Where is this at
I'm going!:)
Chick is insane
Caretaker looks like the Cheshire Cat.
Why only open a few times a year ?!
I think it's 3 days out of the year. There is a summer event and a Fall event.
I’ve have got a strange question Who built the yellow brick road?
I've got some bud that will take you to OZ😁
Want to go where is place at
A few years ago I read that it caught on fire???? Maybe I missed it but just wondering if anyone has more info??? 🤔🤔🤔🤔
I would sing ease on down the road
should've built that in Kansas, on the flat plain.
Follow the yellow brick girl!

Just something I noticed... There are a lot of influencers in the comment section. 👀😶🧐🤔🤗💐💝🦋
The wizard of oz state was based on Kansas but it wasn’t even made in Kansas-
As someone who lives near this place...and worked at a theme park close to it...it's not a big deal. Honestly, too much money for what it is.
Just curious what theme park did you work at?
Marc of the beast wants them
I didn't know it was a real yellow brick road, I thought it was a tile floor made in Hollywood. Good to learn something new everyday at times.
Why North Carolina? Dorothy is from Kansas
The gas shortage happened and the park closed ten years later???
The gas shortage happened during it's 10 year run; not 10 years after the shortage.
Only looks - CLOTHED. #Blackwater Usual time, location, & place. #pivotTABLE-PERSONS-PLACES-THINGS

I would wear some red shoes
I was afraid one of them might have a heart attack when they started skipping down the road and singing.
Why
I love this comment lol

I like the woman!!! Whats her Name? I cannot unterstand it....
*park is closed for the night* some teen: it's free real estate for my abandoned properties post
Huh, interesting
Urban explorers don’t do that, stop giving them a bad name
