On the one hand, really great art work, good choices of singer, and I like the scenes - both canon and not - that you've paired up with the lyrics. Seriously, great job there. Be proud.
On the other hand, I can never escape the knowledge that the song itself, though wrapped up in a cute romantic bow, is a naive and almost pathetic attempt for someone to escape their own negative self view by latching onto someone else who loves them. The singer, Steven Universe, would rather be the version of himself that his girlfriend sees, as opposed to just being himself because he hates his own company.
And then I apply that logic to the video. And I apply that logic, of someone dealing with self-loathing by trying to make herself integral into the life another, to Amity Blight.
And suddenly her crush on Luz, whose mother loves her, who lacks annoying siblings, who is wildly different to everyone but always true to herself, who literally escaped her problems by visiting another world... suddenly that crush is less cute, and a little more sad and thought provoking.
But still nice.
First, thank you. Secondly, oh my god, this is deep. And I love it. I obviously did not try to take the context of the song from SU itself as a basis, but now that it was pointed out to me, I cannot see it otherwise. Despite the sudden sadness over this, I can't help but love this coincidence. Because it feels like the idea has moved to a new level. It is thought provoking indeed. And thanks for that too.
