If Nintendo hadn't cut the nuts off the NES by making zero accomodations for expanded audio, this would have been a thing. If only...
No, it wouldn't have. The VRC7 wasn't even close to existing when Metroid came out, and it was a Konami chip, something a first party title would have never been graced with.
You can remux recordings in OBS so they are in the proper format, and you can also choose the recording format to be something other than .flv
