In the Minnesota climate, you don't get the condensation if you don't tape. Germination is iffy without it.
If you are in a warm climate zone, no need for this. Just sow seed in late fall and lightly mulch, then drink a beer and relax
Never, ever understood the reason for duct tape--- there's a damn hole in the top. Hinge and twist tie is brill.
