Thanks Jeff, I’ve lived in Modesto since I was three years old, I am now 58. I used to ride my bike with my buddies to the graveyard at night and I remember that headstone that stated” I told you I was sick”… LOL those facts about Mr. McHenry or should I say Brewster I had never heard before. Interesting… I was one of the fortunate few who used to cruise McHenry back in the day. Graduated from Downey high. Thanks again Jeff, you did a great job with the history lesson.

This was really awesome to watch. I was raised in Modesto and my grandpa is buried in this cemetery, in front of the little building in the background where the flag is. My mom was a professional seamstress and though I'm not sure how she met the woman that was living in that little building, she began sewing for her when I was a little girl. I'm thinking this was a caretaker. On one occasion the woman asked my mom is she would like to go in the room where they kept coffins, and try one out. I believe that was the last my mom sewed any clothes for her lol I think she was just a very friendly woman. There's a lot of history there. I really enjoy your videos!!

Very interesting to hear local history. My grandfather was a tile and marble contractor in Motown in the late 1940's and my dad as well. Growing up there my family knew the local building contractors. A tidbit of history also is that many of the local older streets are not just named for status but for local contractors and their families, many of the sub contractors as well including my grandfather Coston Trent and the streets connect so the signs say Coston on one and Trent the other.

I was born and raised in Modesto although I have not lived there for many years now. As a long time historical researcher, I watched Jeff's videos with interest. I have numerous ancestors buried in both the Acacia, Citizens, and Pioneer Cemeteries. These include members of the Coffees, Mattesons, and Howell families. All three of these family groups were instrumental in the early days of Modesto. The Howells came to Modesto via a wagon train from Missouri in 1864. and are featured in an old publication "Stanislaus Steppingstones." Stockard Coffee also arrived via a wagon train. The Mattesons came out from Wisconsin via the Panama route at a similar time, All of these families had large farms and businesses in Modesto's early days. Their stories, while not sensational, also make for interesting reading.

Wow that was just really a surprise it just popped up on my feed on RUclips to hear about so much history out of Modesto going back to the 1800s I used to walk my dog there so often and I have seen all the graves that you spoke of now I got to go back and take along this video as I look at each one you spoke of thank you for digging into all the history of our cemetery here in Modesto! I’ve shared this with several people.

Jeff, this is Andrew Dillon. I found your channel randomly and I have to say, WOW. Your content is just great, your editing is superb, your presentation is stellar and your research is awesome. As i randomly stumbled on your channel, my first episode is your latest but I will be starting from the beginning. You have a very huell howser feel without his silly voice. I will be telling my parents about this and thanks again for great california historical content, I hope your channel blows up with subscriptions and likes.

Hey Andrew, glad you found me. I've been on for over three years now. The channel was at 700 subscribers in November and is now over 15,000 just seven months later so it's going well. Thanks for your compliments! Hope your life is going well. Your parents kind of drifted away and I miss them. Tell them hi for me!

Wow 700 to 15k is nothing to sneeze at in such a short time, I hope you get even bigger. The subject matter is super interesting and not well known even to Californians and deserves to be celebrated. Keep on producing great content I will be telling everyone I know.

Thank you for your continued interesting sharing of stories and facts found in cemeteries. I really enjoy it all. There was ‘another’ shoot-out at the O.K. Coral in Tombstone, Az. If you ever find yourself back out that way pop over to the court house and look into it. It’s a very interesting story. Keep up the good work.

"Historic structure here in Modesto that did not make it". That's should be Modesto's motto... Unfortunately a ton of the cool historic buildings were all torn down. Thank you for this great video and history lesson!

I'm afraid that it's happening all across the world. The renovation is too costly, I suppose, and they tear it down.

It is very cool to learn about our people of the past. I recognized many names you mentioned, as the names of local towns, streets, monuments, buildings and schools. But the history of such, I was unaware. Thank you! I was raised in Atwater, only 30 miles south of Modesto. We had some rather interesting stories growing up, many to do with the Bloss family. We have a museum, The Bloss Home, and Bloss Hospital. You might be interested in researching their story and the reason they built the hospital. It is worthwhile. Blessings!

Just a small point. The sinking of EMS Lusitania was on the 7th May 1915. The first world war started when Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria was assassinated in 1914. Although this was not the only reason it was the catalyst. Otherwise love watching your channel. Keep it up
