- It can be difficult removing rust, on top of that, it can be very time consuming! A few weeks back Evapo-rust was recommended in the comment section of a video by Peter Moore. I ordered a litre of the stuff to test and was absolutely blown away by the effectiveness of it. Normally rust removal is difficult and time consuming, but with Evapo-rust, you simply put the rusty component in the liquid and leave it a few hours.

Glad you found it useful. I'm really happy to be able to reciprocate a bit for all the expertise you share. Cheers
Thanks Peter, I was amazed at how well it worked!

Get white vinegar.Soak your rusty items in it.
If your items are large like hedge scissors, wrap them in kitchen roll saturate with vinegar and wrap with clear plastic film or put it in bag.
Easy cheap extremely effective cheers!
Rinse the hell out of it when you're done, because it will accelerate rusting. It also eats away at the metal while it's doing its job.
I use oxalic acid, it comes in powder form, just mix with water and soak. Had an ancient adjustable spanner I got from my grandad that was seized with rust and it brought it back to life.
It actually does what it says on the tin! I've had some for years. You absolutely can re-use it again and again. It is totally safe. The only thing is the price, but seeing as it is so effective , it is totally worth it.
Brilliant!

An impressive product but expensive compared to commonly available cheap and safe citric acid (which isn't just good at cleaning limescale from your kettle with 2-3 boils and a teaspoon full). To remove rust just stir a handful of citric acid in bucket of warm/hot water and then place your rusted items in overnight. They will require little more than a light brushing. Really bad rust can be soaked again for another night. Hydrochloric acid (usually sold as 5-10% in patio cleaner) is quickest but items have to be neutralised immediately afterwards, and also gives off fumes that attack surrounding metal work and causes rust.
I removed the rust from inherited tools and use them regularly. It is a great feeling to have cleaned up and protected, never mind use your grandfather/great-grandfather's tools.
Thanks for the info, we used to use citric in 25kg bags at the last place I worked. I had no idea that it would remove rust!

That’s incredible stuff… definitely worth having on the garage shelf for future use. thanks Peter Moore & The Ultimate Handyman! 👍🏾
Absolutely 👍
Thanks for the comment 👍
That’s a great product thanks for the review 👍
No problem 👍

A cheaper rust removal solution with just as good results can be gotten from citric acid powder in water - very safe to use, cheap and effective. lots of vids on YT about doing it.
👍👍👍 Will give this a try. Thank you
Good stuff 👍
Thanks for the comment 👍
Great stuff 👍
Thanks 👍
I like your channel and appreciate the content you post. I have seen this product used quite a bit on RUclips videos from the US. I am from the US, retired now and living in Portugal. I have not seen this product anywhere locally, did not know it was available in the EU. Would you please post a link to where you purchased it?
I found it for sale on eBay by “direct trade supplies”- fave.co/44SZatN
I purchased a bottle, then realised that it was my local ironmongers that was selling it. If I had know this I would have just gone down and purchased a bottle! Now I know that “direct trade supplies” on eBay is actually James Gibsons ironmongers, Darwen!

Looks a good addition to any shed with tools.👍👍. Emporer masonry paint is another product you could do a video on. Highly recommended. And I'm not on commission 😉.
Yeah, this amazed me!
I don’t use masonry paint to be honest, once you paint it once, you have to keep painting it every few years 😂

Is there something you can recommend to treat/remove the rust on a bathroom electric tower raidiator, please? Obviously I can't disasemble it and submerge into a bucket like this. Thanks...
You seem to have never used Amazon affiliate links, it's an easy way for your audience to support you
Thanks, I don’t really bother with any affiliate links. Most of my subscribers are automatically suspicious and think I’m being paid for making the video’s

@@ultimatehandyman I get a couple of grand a year out of the Amazon links, it pays for a winter holiday with me and the missus.
Some folks might complain occasionally, but they are few and far between
Most people will try to support you if they find a video helpful.
Maybe worth adding a few again and seeing how it goes, your videos have been really helpful to me over the years.
Although I haven't used evapo-rust, it is very well known that it is very effective, however it is very expensive. In the UK we have Deox-C produced locally and comes in plastic jar in granule form and works wonders and it is very cost effective compared to evapo-rust.
Hi, I tried Evapo-Rust and it was good but a friend of mine suggested white vinegar and that worded just as well at a fraction of the cost
Aaaah the nectar juice for reviving your grandads old tools...
There are other things,,,people here will let us know im sure..
Informative

Looks great. Would you spray/wipe the items after rinsing to protect? E.g. Camelia oil?
I guess you could do, I don’t normally leave steel items outside in the first place.
Protecting steel with some kind of coating is always a good idea 👍
Thanks for the comment 👍
A good plan would be to zinc electroplate once stripped
@@ultimatehandyman All my gear is in a garage, but when the temperature drops it starts to get slightly damp in there just from the air.
@neilp6777
Yeah, that can be a problem.
I store my stuff in two garages, one is solely for storage. I fitted vents to the garage door and an air vent at the rear of the garage to increase air flow, but even then, some steel items can start to rust.
In my main garage, I have a dehumidifier, which helps tremendously. 👍
@@ultimatehandyman Great minds think alike ... i now have a dehumidier in mine, and a wireless thermometer/humidistat ... i get an alert if it gets too damp, and switch on the dehumidifier. Space age!
Evaporust is EDTA in 5% solution. Buy your own EDTA and make it a LOT cheaper.
I wonder if you can paint it onto larger items? I have a fire extinguisher l want to turn into a lamp, and the bare steel is very rusty.
It says to apply it to wet paper towels for larger objects, but it says it is not as effective as submerging the item!
Thanks for the comment 👍
@@ultimatehandyman Thanks, looks like I'll be doing it the hard way then.😊
Do you have any experience with gel like rust removers?
No, sorry. I have not tried any of those. I have used rust convertors in the past, mainly Hammerite Kurust, which is great, if you are painting over it.
Thanks for the comment 👍
Looks a great product ,But have you tried vinegar, Its a lot cheaper
Not tried it yet, but will do 👍
Once out, rince off, dry.. And won't oxidise ..leaves a film protecting it.. ive used it for a few years now? as I use it to pre clean anything, I wan't to go for rezincing.. The know I don't bring rusty parts for zincing.. Its a pre de-rust.. top tip!! Buy the 5 litre... but to and use as and when.. because when you go to buy again, it's gone up by a few quid each time!
Thanks for the comment 👍
From what I can gather from other videos too is that heated Evapo-Rust greatly affects the quicker removal of rust...
The stuff could be phosphoric acid, the same stuff in soft drinks, much diluted.
Had a lot of success with Deox C. Works out much cheaper.
Nooice!
👍
Now if you could explain how to submerge my ford focus in this overnight that would be greatly appreciated 😂
Bilt hamber my friend
It would probably fall apart after the rust holding it together is removed. Half-joking.
i've found WD40 to be good just spray on a rag and rub on to rust areas then paint over with radiator paint .Although if is showing on the outside its maybe rusted through and time to replace.
Enjoy your Sunday evenings with all your family around you ,Ultimate Handyman

Why spend 18 quid when regular white vinegar does the same trick.
Expensive. Use Bilt Hamber Deox C instead
Couldn't you just use vinegar? It's cheaper too.
I’ve never tried vinegar, or citric acid, but will do in future!
Thanks for the comment 👍
Vinegar takes ages and doesn’t work all that well and it stinks. Much more effective and quicker to use this stuff.
Mate, some cheap vinegar will do pretty much the same job.
I’ll try that sometime. I once tried baking soda and vinegar to unblock a drain, and it was not brilliant 😂
Thanks for the comment 👍
Forget these home remedies of vinegar, salt, baking soda, coca cola, tomato ketchup, cream of tartar, lemon juice etc etc thy either don’t work at all or they are pathetic. If you want to get rid of rust and not just play around get a good proprietary brand of rust remover to get the job done effectively.
Ok, but try vinegar next time, it does the same and is very cheap.
Vinegar takes ages, it’s not very effective, it stinks and it belongs in the kitchen not in the workshop. Put it on your chips not on rust.
Amen God and Jesus love y’all turn to the lord God bless 🙏✝️❤️
