- Once again, I search for something on RUclips and cannot find it. It is this amazing scene from the movie Song of the Sea.
The only thing I found was someone had recorded it using... their... phone... and uploaded to youtube. That got 20k views... /facepalm. Great job.
So here it is in glorious 1080p! Видеоклипы
It's kind of sad that they hear a voice from their stone friends and just sort of accept it. They must have forgotten what their voices sounded like.
i love how the song is about selkies and then the refrain be like "ay bitch we have the best seaweed in Ireland"
It's an Irish folk song; the selkie parts were just made for the movie. In the real version, the entire song is about seaweed.
Have you SEEN how nice that seaweed is? It's the best in all of the... Ireland.
It’s actually a metaphor, the seaweed represents a beautiful woman
The seaweed is the two characters in the song who aren't a beautiful woman, actually.
Funny thing about this song is that it's mostly about Ireland having the best seaweed ever.
The Otter I think the seaweed is a metaphor for something better
It's a classic about a poor man wanting to court a wealthy lady but the father says no and then they eventually run away together.
I was thinking about that the whole movie from this scene forwards
@@maddieharrison3577 it is a metaphor, the Irish seaweed represents a wealthy man and the stately seaweed represents a poor man who has fallen in love with the Irish seaweed's(wealthy man's) daughter at the end of the song the daughter and the stately seaweed(poor man) run away.
I think I heard it was sort of a code using metaphors when the British occupied the region, I don’t know the particulars but there were quite a few songs like that actually
considering she's a selkie, a mythical creature associated with the sea i think its so cute that they sing a song about irish seaweed
Apparently it's a metaphor, about an Irish seaweed (a wealthy father) and a stately seaweed (a more modest man) who is in love with his daughter, not wealthy but respected by everyone else. When dad doesn't give his blessing they run away together.
"We have selkies. They come for the seaweed and stay for the liberation." -Dulaman according to Cartoon Saloon
This movie was truly one of a kind. The graphics, the music, even the cast was simply breathtaking. Words can't describe how much this movie means to me.
I've watched it over 10 times, and i still can't get enough of it.
This movie is a cinematic masterpiece, but it’s probably the weakest out of all the movies that Cartoon Saloon has made. Im not bashing on the movie, it’s amazing, but the other movies Cartoon Saloon has made are even more beautiful.
indeed ... the simplicity of its animation makes it far more unique... I've never been so impressed! not to mention the story! indeed one of kind 👌
I love the part when Saoirse played the shell to this song. It added a great music tone to this song. Who else agrees?
Yeah she is really getting into the swing of things.
And she's so cute when she does it!
Me agree
I really liked this part in the movie 🐚🌊❤
This movies one of the few movies that actually nearly made me cry I really love this
Same
If you liked Song of the Sea, I'd highly recommend Secret of Kells if you haven't seen it yet!
This movie was so magical and it still is
You got point
More magical than disney :)))
I fell in love with the animation style ❤️ simple yet magical
Amazing movie
@@Vintag3_Tap3Ah you know Disney in their renaissance 2000s had a lot of magical movies but I prefer Cartoon Saloon coz they haven't made a bad movie in their history
I know that it translates to "the best in all of Ireland" but I love how the last line of the chorus sounds like "Part of being Ireland." As if to say "Being the best is just part of being Irish."
I like how the brothers aren't actually that together at first. They needed Saoirse and her shell to bring it all together. And when they did, it was amazing.
This is by far my favorite movie and most treasured the music just calms me down
I agree ! I find this movie so calming 🥺💗
Truly
i love cartoon saloon movies. a pity that he lost the oscar for best animated film to big hero six.
Definitely the best version ever. All the "serious" Dúlamán-versions online are so terribly "artfully" made with so much bling the song really looses its drive which is so powerful here to hear.
what about the Celtic Woman version?
And this version sounds like a couple of buds in a pub just having the time of their life.
I love this movie's soundtrack, man. It's so catchy.
Jake Sharratt this movie (besides Harry Potter) is my favorite movie,
Ik
actually the movie didnt make the song
Secret Of The Kells too man, it's soooo good 😌❤️
@@birajsingha9879 Love Secret of Kells. It's beautiful with a dark bit to it
Heard this song from Celtic Woman's cover, fell in love with the song, rewatched Song of the Sea like dozen of times, yet I never realized they actually sang it.
Same!
I wish they included this song in the soundtrack of the movie. I absolutely loved this one!
*_LYRICS_*
The selkie song is bright,
To waken all who follow,
Manannan will lead,
And Tír na nÓg will follow.
Dúlamán na bínne bui,
Dúlamán Gaelach.
Dúlamán na farraige
b'fhearr a bhí in Éirine.
Saoirse the selkie,
will sing and save the day.
The Daoine Sídhe who rescued her,
will cheer and celebrate.
Dúlamán na bínne bui,
Dúlamán Gaelach.
Dúlamán na farraige
b'fhearr a bhí in Éirine.
Long, long we prayed,
To hear the selkie song,
And now we pray again,
That her song will never end.
Dúlamán na bínne bui,
Dúlamán Gaelach.
Dúlamán na farraige
b'fhearr a bhí in Éirine.
I wonder who mananan is

Since I saw the cartoon I am obsessed with this song, especially when I take a shower lol. Greetings from Serbia!
Hi ! In Serbia, you have a great group of irish/celtic music called Irish Stew of Sindidun ^^
Иван Остојић I sing this in the shower. Including the Irish lyrics
being called Saoirse and watching this makes it even more cute 😂 x
Saoirse Rosenstock my name is called Saoìrse. I am a selkie

This Film (And The Secret Of Kells In Part Because Vikings Actually Did Raid Ireland Like That) Is Based Heavily On Ancient Irish Mythology. Here's The Lyrics And The Meaning Of The Irish Phases Behind Them:
"The Selkie Song Is Bright
To Waken All Who Follow
Manannán Will Lead
And To Tír Na nÓg We Follow
Dúlaman Na Binne Buí/Yellow Channelled Wrack
Dúlaman Gaelach/Irish Channelled Wrack

'B'fhearr A Bhí In Éireann"/The Best In All Of Ireland
A Selkie Is The Irish Version Of A Mermaid, They Are Often Seen As Bad Omens Leading Men To Their Deaths As They Are Often In The Form Of Beautiful Women On The Shoreline Dead, They Will Stay With The Men Sometimes For Years Until They Are Called Back To The Sea, With The Men So Enchanted By Them They Go Into The Water After Them And Drown. The Name Manannán Mac Lír/"Son Of The Sea" Is The God Of The Sea. The Isle Of Man In The British Isles Are Named After Him And The Triskelion On The Flag Is His Symbol. It's Said He Has 3 Legs To Quickly Scan His Kingdoms On Land And The Sea. Tír Na nÓg/"Land Of The Young" Is Like The Irish Pre-Christian Version Of Olympus In Greek Mythology. It's Considered To Be Part Of The "Otherworld" Where The Gods Rest In Eternal Paradise, Happiness And Festivity Without Sadness, Pain Or Death. Another Famous Legend With This Place In It Is "Oísin In Tír Na nÓg". The Next Part Is The Course Of A Famous Irish Song Called "Dúlaman". Dúlaman Is Irish For A Species Of Seaweed Called Pelvetia Canaliculata. It Was Salvaged From The Sea In Times Of Famine To Avoid Starvation. The Whole Song Takes A Play On A Young Man Trying To Court A Young Girl And Her Father Drives The Man Away As He Is Too Poor For Him.
Hope This Explained This For You! :D
Wow, that was so informative :) Thank you

I don't think your Selkie lore is the same as the movie is based off of or the most traditionally held beliefs (though certainly there's that version of the Selkie tale somewhere, tis the nature of folklore). I'm not Irish or a scholar or anything, just an enthusiast who finds all her information online. In the more coventional Selkie lore I'm more familiar with (that is also the version held by Wikipedia, hehe, as well as what this movie is based off of), the Selkies aren't bad omens or malicious. They take can take the form of a seal or a woman (but never at the same time - they aren't mermaids with seal tails or anything of that sort). A man would steal a Selkie's coat and she would be forced to become his wife and stay with him. She might spend years with him, raising children and may even fall in love with him and love her children (or stare pensively at the sea and miss her home and/or her Selkie husband) until she finds her sealskin again and returns to the ocean (even if she loves her family, the ocean is where she belongs). She may never be seen again (except by her children, when she's in seal-form). Song of the Sea basically happened when the director looked at that lore and said "So..what happens to the Selkie's children?" The Irish mermaids, though often confused with Selkies and possessing slightly similar lore, are called Merrows and I think they're also not of the "lure men to their death kind", though I'm less familiar with Merrow lore and folktales. In short, what you said about Selkies isn't necessarily incorrect - just not correct, either, if that makes sense (again, folklore has a million versions).
Dulaman (the original version) is a great song and ridiculously fun to sing.
So many long comments... good read
M. Cloak Selkies are actually a Scottish thing originally, though I think there’s Irish lore about them too.
I grew up around celtic mythology. The first movie I ever saw (while also grew up with) from these movie creators was the secret of kells.
And I watched both that movie and song of the sea too many times to remember, one of the classics and will always be in my heart.
Good song, from a great movie, from the best animation studio of Ireland
Everything is great
Saoirse is pretty bright for a 6 year old.
Actually, she's 4
@@nisaiahcampbell8390 In the movie it was her sixth birthday.
Well she's actually a magical selkie, not just some average child.
Children are smarter than we give the credit for honestly, they are just clueless to what to do in social situations... and more advanced learning stuff of course ^^
She’s also cute.
MY CHILDHOOD 😭😭
😎👍
REAL
This is literally one of the best animated movies ever
The songs in this film resonate throughout my family. My two daughters absolutely adored this film when they were toddling ❤️
I actually really love this song. I can't put the Celtic Woman cover down.

Me: Clearly been alone for 47 years lol
WHY are they singing about seaweed
Dulaman is an edible seaweed that kept villagers from starvation in times were there wasnt much food, it is eaten with potatoes and other vegetables. The song is about hope in times of shortage, they sing about how nice and beautiful dulaman is acompanied with a story about a young man trying to impress a young lady with presents as a metaphor. The verse can be translated to "Seaweed from the yellow clif, irish seaweed. Seaweed from the sea, the best in all Ireland"

Thanks. Nice piece of information :-)
_because it is very good seweed_
So it doesn't drown them.
Esej Snake ‘Tis because seaweed is scrumptious, mon ami
I wish this version was released, it's so natural and authentic!
It's my favourite so far (even above the celtic woman one!)
Oh my gosh I only just realized! 'Dúlamán' is an actual song!

Haha, AI can't keep up with this accent!
Robin Gullick the best part is 1:29 - “no mom we prayed to hear the sake song”
so they’re singing about Japanese alcohol?
Not a lot of grandparents do this...But I remember as a 4-year-old kid when my grandmother sang old Irish songs while knitting a sweater or clothing. Both of my parents worked and so I spent a lot of time with her reading dusty old mythical books and hear her tell folklore. Thinking about it...That is how myths and legends are passed on. Through our elders dreaming of the past and orally transmitting it to the younger generation.
This song was in my head for years
This tune has been stuck in my head for weeks and this magically shows up on my dash? 🤯
I love this movie
This song has been stuck in my head since rewatching the movie and tbh, I’m not complaining
my younger sister likes to watch this but after her death 9/7/2021 i played this song everyday this song and the movie made me IN TEARS
THEY MADE ME IN TEARS BRO
Thank you for posting a good quality video of this ^v^
YOU SAVED ME WITH THIS ONE! I have searched for this everywhere!
This is such nice quality! I wasn't expecting this to be so good but then again when I watched the movie it was the day before i had to get new glasses so my eyesight wasnt the best atm
In the first verse, it literally kills me how he rhymes "Follow" with "Follow"

The seaweed song!!!
This song. Is literally about a romance between SEAWEEDS. Best. Fun fact. Ever.
No, the stately seaweed isn't in love with the irish seaweed, he's in love with the irish seaweed's daughter. It's metaphors.
I love how they reference the song.
I absolutely love, love, love this movie"Song of the Sea"!💟💟💟
I found this vid while half asleep and I have no regrets
I turned on the captions and it was so funny
I CANNOT EXPRESS HOW MUCH I LOVE THIS
Were has this been all my life
Ireland is so beautiful. Used to enjoy the scenery watching Ballykissangel. Loved that series!
I wish there was a recording of just the song. It's such an awesome classic!!!
I love the original song! I was so happy to find it here! Anyway, what instrument did they use for the shell?
some sort of woodwind im sure, ill see if i can find the exact one!
this is an irish variant of the scottish sang cutting ferns.
Dúlaman is an actual song itself too
This movie changed me when i was a kid omg
Such a good movie! And this song is so catchy! I'm only half Irish but I've been trying to learn how to pronounce the Irish lyrics correctly. I've probably listened to it 40 or 50 times now haha
We used to sing this when I was little
This is good for my heart... it really is 🔮💜✨

I Just watched this and now the song is stuck in my head

This song is the best
Frisk listening to a song about seaweed. Seems legit.
I would love the full English version of this, not that I don't the the Irish version, but can't I love 'em both?
One of the best animated films of the 2010's
I always find it funny how the Sídhe are portrayed as friendly and jolly in this film when in folklore they're such serious (and at times dangerous) beings who will curse you if you cross them.
You're right about them being serious and dangerous at times. But they also have been known be very joyful when they are comfortable and left alone. And there are stories of the Sidhe(sorry, I don't know how to do accents) even giving good fortune or granting small favors to people who are helpful to them, or to people who do the Sidhe great services. Depends on the story.
@@thecelticdragon2139 true enough. And I think you can get the fada (the accent) by pressing ctrl+alt, at least, that works on my laptop.
