Just Purchased a new L4701, just waiting for them to deliver it. Got a grapple and rear blade and did get the R4 tires. Will be purchasing an auger and brush hog in the very near future. Im like a kid waiting for Christmas day. Did a lot of research prior to my purchase and think this will be the best for my property. Just subscribed to your channel and look forward to sharing my experience with my L4701. - Kirk
When I bought my L4701, I went with the R 4’s, they were a 500 dollar cost over the AG tires, in 2017, the R4’s have been a great allround tire. Another advantage to the R4,s that no one seems to mention is tractor stability which is much better withe the R4’s because they are much much wider and the traction is very good and they won’t damage your yard when running a finish mower to mow as long as you drop the heavy loader
Nice tractor! I ended up getting the L3902… I asked about a 4701 but the dealer didn’t have any and said they weren’t that much different than the 3901 (3902) I’m like well the HP and loader is different and he replied with “Slightly but normally you wouldn’t notice the difference” I get he wanted to sell what he had and like I said I did buy it! Happy over all with the purchase and I did save some money not buying the 4701 but hoping I won’t regret not getting the more HP!
Yeah, the 4701 is a bigger tractor over all…..kind of a size all it’s own…bigger that the normal L series but smaller than the Grand series! I thought about the 4701 (4802 now ) but thought it was a touch too big for my needs and I saved some money to boot getting the 3902.
For anyone trying to choose, I highly recommend the Land Pride SGC1060 grapple. It is built with much thicker plate (AR400) and the geometry is very good for using as a root rake. The style in this video is similar with the shorter bottom tines but the plate steel on the tines looks to be pretty thin. Maybe Jeff can weigh in on how his has held up but it looks like the tines might be easy to bend in more demanding situations. I would recommend against the grapples you see with long jaw-like bottom tines, the geometry is just not as versatile.
good video, love kubota. a little clarification for those that dont know. a diverter can do one function, or the other function. it can lift, or curl. the way you phrased it, "one but not the other" might mislead a newbie. again, great video, hope your enjoying your nice ride!!
Very nice choice, I think you will be happy, if you keep it serviced I know it will last a life time. One thing I noticed you hauling that brush with loader way up, please keep loader as low as possible, not trying to be saftey sally but 30 years rescue squad/leo, I've worked a lot of roll overs, but we have very steep terrain here in east Tennessee. Awesome video, stay safe and God bless
I am buying one of these and I am getting the excavator attachment the grapple attachment and the box blade attachment as well as the front loader. I have many projects and this is going to be a wonderful addition
Thanks for the information. I’m trying to decide if I need (or want ) the Mx 5400.New Subscriber and looking forward to more content. God Bless you and your family.
R4’s are about 500 bucks more then the R1’s .R4’s are a lot wider, grip good on a variety of applications and are much kinder to your lawn if you like to run a finish mower as. I do. I bought my L4701 new in 2017. I have been happy with my tractor and will add the third hydraulic function and a grapple after I pay off the tractor in 3 yrs, good luck! I think you made a good choice!
Thank you! I love the tractor. I went back and forth on the R1 vs R4 tires for about a week before deciding on the R1s. I try to keep the tractor off the finished lawns as much as I can but you are right they cut ruts bad if you’re not careful. I got caught in some mud the other day and those R1s didn’t fail me! That grapple is a game changer! It’ll make you want to tear out things you don’t need too! 🤣
@@ShadowTreeHomestead the R4’s do surprisingly well in the mud as well. But probably the biggest advantage with the R4’s are their width, reducing chances of rollover which is a big concern if your ground is not flat, good luck!
I use the loader a lot, so not having to mess with gears and a clutch is one. Iv used gear drive tractors before and no doubt do they have more torque but the HST has more finesse.
The hydrostatic transmission is just as strong as gears, its an old wives tale about not holding, Ive used kubota hydrostatic tractos since early 90s NEVER had one fail and I have honestly abused em on steep hills with 0 issues, yes they are a little noisy with a whine but I have used them for so long I don't pay it any mind.
My understanding hydrostatic transmission is just as powerful as gear driven transmission. The issue is the hydrostatic pedal is treated as an accelerator pedal while it’s actually a gear pedal. Light pressure on the pedal is low gear and pressing down further is higher gear. Until one understands this you tend to mash down on the pedal in the hope of getting more power while what happens is the engine stalls.
very nice review. I looked at the L4701 when I went through the process of buying my Kubota tractor. because of the tight places that I need to get into down in my woods, I went with the smaller version. actually the L2501. Bet you can't guess why the L2501 over the L3301.
A can would be real nice in the Texas summer. But a lot of the pastures I mow have lots of trees and it’s nice to be able to fold the ROPS down and get under them. My buddy bought a MX5400 with a cab and it’s real fancy!
We bought a Kubota MX5200 last year. It looks quite similar to your L47401. I’m not sure but could they be on the same chassis? We did not really have much confusion when buying our tractor. We were planning to buy another brand tractor but the deal fell through due to Covid restrictions. So we went to the Kubota dealer and explained our situation. He said they had a MX5200 HST which was bigger than what we wanted. They did not have any L or B series tractors in stock. I did not even see a BX on display. They just had this MX5200 being prepared in their workshop. We had a look, took it for a quick test drive and liked it. We were given a good deal and have been very happy with it.
It is frustrating I'm trying to buy one now and getting information from the local dealers is a joke. Talk to about five of them are the biggest wiseguys know-it-all nothing's on the planet. Smartass is the accurate term
How much was the price difference between the L4701 and the MX5400. By the way, not all grapples are heavy... EA makes a great grapple that is lighter that the competition but very robust. Thank you for sharing your tractor experience.
I had the dealer give me two quotes that were identical with the exception of the tractors. The MX5400 was another 8k. The MX5400 offered a deluxe category 2 hitch and the next loader size. Although nice those weren’t worth the jump for us.
@@bigdickrick3107 I didn't want to say it... But is true, that is why the L4701 is considered and odd/orphan product,.. Unless you get a crazy discount there is little justification on not getting the MX.
I have not weighed the tractor so my numbers are educated guesses. I know the tractor without the loader is 3300lbs according to the Kubota spec sheet. Iv been unable to find a spec sheet with the weight of the loader but my best guess is probably 800-1000lbs, maybe more. My rear tires are also filled with radiator fluid and I have no idea how much more weight that has added. Iv been meaning to run it to a scale an check.
@@ShadowTreeHomestead thank you my buddy has the same tractor bucket and brush hog tires are filled he's wanting to use a half ton Chevy pickup truck with a 350 342 gears I don't think it's going to happen time and gets a big enough trailer to do it all at once thanks again have a good day
So I pull this tractor with a half ton F150. I have a 20ft trailer that weighs 3000lbs. My truck has the V6 EcoBoost motor. I use a weight distribution hitch which I believe is a must and recommend over 5K pounds by Ford. I have suspension airbags coming for it to level out the ride. I think your buddy could do it with the right setup.
What state are you in? The biggest thing I would change is the antifreeze in your tires. Leaking antifreeze on a pasture can poison your animals. Beet Juice is heaver and harmless.
I don’t think you listened very well to the content. I’m very aware attachments are an extra expense. But when specifically related to the loader itself and the pricing that was something I did not know about because I had never bought a new tractor. Your assumptions are laughable, good one! ✌️

The R4s don’t hold a candle to R1s in mud. It’s just a fact.
R4 are better in my opinion when doing heavy lifting nice unit I have one too and I consider the mx5400 but couldn't find one at the time
Did you flip your rear tires for the wider stance ? Looks like it just wandering. I have 4701 also. Thinking of swapping mine.
No. That’s the way it came from the dealer.

Nice tractor man. Now let's see that thing working in the dirt/mud/whatever. BTW you have a beautiful family.
Thank you! There will be videos soon of it working. We’ve got a big gravel driveway project coming up and 5 acres of pasture to mow.
VERY informative - thanks!
No problem!
Great information. My dealer informed me the other day that the 4701 does not come in a shuttle shift. Only standard or hydro
You are correct. They do make a shuttle shift, but not in the 4701. You looking at purchasing a 4701?
Consider a set of pallet forks instead of a grapple, i have the use of both and use the pallet forks almost exclusively.
I got a set of pallet forks as well.
Do you know what the road speed with your 4701 is? My 3901 is just 14.1 MPH but mine is an HST with radial tires.
I’m not sure. Iv never measured it.
I'm guessing it to be a little faster since it's a 4 cylinder. Maybe not? You never know. @@ShadowTreeHomestead

Did you compare other tractor brands before deciding on the Kubota?
No, I didn’t. Kubota has a great reputation and the dealer for service and parts in 15 minutes from the house. So I didn’t look at other brands.
Thanks mate - very useful info and nicely delivered

Is the that Armstrong bgr mini? What is the weight of it?
Yes it is the BGR mini. The spec sheet shows 440lbs.
