My dad built me an old Klunker bike back in the 70’s. I did BMX, road riding, mountain biking and now I’m working on a tricked out new Klunker. 57 years old and I still love riding.
Bought my first legit MTB in ‘95. Had no idea mountain biking hadn’t been around that long. This film makes me want to rock some denim on a clunker for sure 🤙
Thanks for a brilliant Video I sucked at history at school but this is great history of mountain biking . I love the word clunker. Greetings from Scotland and an old guy who loves his bike.
Got my first Mnt bike in 1990 and I was hooked. Scored Moab before it was mainstream. Just two of us everywhere we rode. I still have my Giant Cadex CFM2. My first bike with a front shock was bought in 93. This film was great. Wish I was there back then when it all started.
Bought my first mtb, a Raleigh Technium, in 1988. Started working in a shop in 1990 until I had to be an adult in my mid-30’s. Pretty much bailed on cycling completely until 6 years ago. Now we’ve been in business for 5 and a half years and I find myself enjoying rebuilding older bikes more than the new stuff. 91 Klein Rascal in the works right now.
Made my first FTBW in 89 and very year after. When Kay Peterson and crew were running the show it was an awesome week long party. So glad to have found these two videos. brought back some most epic memories
Great video 👍🏻. Old time adventure cycling, flat bar, drop bar, you don't care as long as you have fun. Bored of tight jersey? Wear anything that comfort you & protect you.
At 4:18 you get a shot of the worlds first mullet...............Nice shot of the Diamondback Axis Team at the end. I couldn't afford the Axis but I bought an 89 Apex (689.00) back then and rode the crap out of it here in the Allegheny National Forest in Warren Pa.. Had the whole place to myself back in those days.............
This and the previous one take me back to riding my dad’s red Schwinn Typhoon on the trails through the woods up and down the hills and banks of the bayou here in Houston back in the late 70s. When Schwinn came out with the High Sierra in ‘83, I persuaded my dad to get one immediately, and I rode that every time I visited his house. Those trails were out in the country back then, and he’d ride his High Sierra, my brother and I would ride his Typhoon and his wife’s cruiser back there and we could shoot guns without seeing anyone all day. Those trails became what’s known as Ant Hills later, and the developments that grew up around them kinda preclude shooting, but the trail and ridership is crazy now. So I guess I’ve been riding ATBs since about 1979. 45 years. ❤
How Cool is this, to see faces I haven’t seen in years still at it and having fun. I hope to see more in future, great series. Maybe Moab? Thanks so much.
Wow, Amazing Video! And you are correct Mountain Biking in the 80s and 90s was the wild west. And like you my passion and Love for bicycles has never changed. It's just amazing to see how graceful you all have aged as I used to know most everyone in this documentary when you were young. Back then if you had a good idea like selling weed to help finance what you loved, you just did it and often the return was out of this world. After watching your movie I also feel the same way as I too did my part to make mountain biking grow. I simulated the brake lever gum hood position on MTB handle bars to help new mountain bike riders as most came from riding and racing road bikes. I named them onZa bar-ends... ( :

I have been a MTB biker since 1990.
This document is great.
The true spirit that is being lost.
When I'm on my bike I'm truly free.
I teared up a little. So amazing. Thankful for those who unpaved the trail for us today!! ❤
This resonates strongly with my early mountain bike days in the UK...

What a cool story- that last shot is jaw dropping.

Great Vid.
You should do a story on Laguna Rads. The beginning of gnar in the 80’s. They probably wouldn’t let you do a story on them though.
Well done, I was in Utah in 1980s Mt biking
Legends! This makes us want to get out and ride! Maybe in jorts?
Love it
So good to whatch
"We just smoked a lot of weed." Sounds like pot helped out a lot in those early days!
still does.....😀
excellent !! ✊ 😂
You are a mountain biker when you ride to go ride.
Funny how the sport was simpler but money was bigger.
As a Portland native yes the Trailblazers were built from junk, currently are junk and will always be junk😂❤😂
