You absolutely made the right decision Chris. Furthermore, my vote would be to just drop Shanghai for the time being and spend more time visiting other international parks. As for showing us more things that aren't theme parks, and travel days, YES PLEASE. The more the better. I'm someone who loves to travel but doesn't get to do it and I love living vicariously through your journeys.

Chris, you and your family’s safety is paramount. The Department of State has designated China as a level 3 and I was really worried about Shanghai. Your peace of mind is important and you’d definitely have to walk on eggshells in mainland China given the current climate. Glad you and your family are okay!

@@provostparkpassAlong the lines of what I was thinking, also. Your friend on the phone sounded wise. You *prbly* would have been fine, but that seems a little tenuous. Your first reaction (to not over react) is wise, but it sounds like you made a smart move after talking with your friend and doing more research. Especially given all the filming and taping caveats. The weather is doing whacky, record things too. Good call for now. Safe travels! ❤🎉

@provostparkpass definitely the right choice. While you're in London check out the Texas consulate. Serous for the short time that the state of Texas was a independent nation it had a consulate there and London has a monument telling you about it. Have fun stay safe.

      Avoid China.
I am not going to be “oh you would be fine.”
You are a white American man.
This is a Communist country and American news media isn’t telling you the whole truth.
It isn’t at all safe. People who live there are not even safe. People vanish. You have no rights.
Cultural differences are so big and Americans are unaware of this in general so if you just looked or smiled the wrong way you could vanish in a second. The torture that you would endure I cannot imagine and wouldn’t be allowed to type here anyways.
Nobody should be going to China.
We should not be having products made in China.
We should not be doing business with China.
Chinese people need to be freed from their dictatorship. I know people there. I went to university with Chinese Deaf students. God help them.

I haven't even finished the video yet, but let me just say... I'm relieved. I was extremely concerned about the Shanghai leg of the world tour. I worked in the defense industry for the bulk of my career and based on the briefings we had and the experiences of my coworkers who traveled there, I can without a doubt say you absolutely made the right decision. And with this latest news coming out of China, that just adds more weight to the correctness of your decision.

My wife was born and raised in Shanghai. As a result, we have traveled back to Shanghai 7 times over the past 27 years without significant incidents. In fact, we have had loads of fun walking the city, seeing sites, eating out, and traveling to other parts of China. We never felt even a hint of potential stress or restrictions from the Chinese government. We, however, have always purchased our visas in advance, are not traveling alone, not doing large amounts of recording, and have traveled at a time when U.S. relations with China were more positive.
Furthermore, the fact that my wife speaks Mandarin and Shanghainese is undoubtedly a factor in our enjoyment. Years ago, I was traveling alone (not in China) and kept getting stopped and searched by airport security. I am convinced that you made the right decision. I would not want to travel there as long as the U.S. government recommends reconsidering travel. It is undoubtedly wise to wait for that to change.
I wish I could show you the fun and enjoyment my wife and I had when we traveled to Shanghai. Check out denniscallan's Shanghai introduction video. It's an old video, but it shows city life.

Maybe do Efteling as part of your European trip or some later date. Love your travel videos, we're really tuning in for you guys, and the surroundings are bonus. I've entered China 5 times in my life, including once on a 72 hour transit pass. Over the years things have become more risky for American passport holders.
I can tell you 100% I would have said word for word what your friend counseled you on. You'd PROBABLY be OK, but it's not worth the risk.
Also, I will add, my trip to Shanghai in 2019 I decided would be my last to China. I really love visiting China, but I will not go back myself.
Lastly, I'm proud you made the decision you did. That took courage to make that call, at the airport.

You, traveling by yourself, with camera equipment, even if it is your cellphone, bring up a lot of red lights, and it heightens the probability of you being considered a spy. Chris, you made a good call. Shanghai Disneyland is the only park I haven’t visited but now possibly isn’t the time to go. Many years ago I was the first American entertainer to tour inside Mainland China playing 5,000 - 10,000 arenas all over the country BUT, I was a guest of the government so it was a VERY different experience. Our entire cast was protected and handled with the greatest care. Our road crew was from the Royal Shanghai Ballet company and I have no doubt there were people watching everything we did very closely. I remember doing interviews on some radio shows and they told everyone who called in specifically what approved question to ask. It was more than a little spooky. These are very different times and I have no doubt that it could be riskier. Let’s just wait until the political climate is a little more desirable. On the other hand, take advantage of Europe. Everything is a short train ride or flight away and it is wonderful. We did about 24 countries last year and it is more than you can imagine. Take care and believe your instincts!

Chris, you made the right decision because the potential repercussions are great. I'm so glad you and Amanda listened to your gut and chose to come home. I'm thankful for the person who left the comment and informed you of this law. I am not remotely disappointed if you don't go to Shanghai. Your safety is the MOST important thing. It isn't worth the risk of being detained, imprisoned and potentially executed for a video. Your fans will ALWAYS support you and your family's safety! We are so glad you are safe and on US soil until you can figure things out.

Hi Chris! Thankful for the PPP community and positivity you and your family create in this world. You dodged one dude! Please know, you absolutely made the correct choice! HUGE SHOUT OUT to Amanda for talking sense into buying the ticket. It’s hard when the price point is not what you hoped for. You are each other’s world, and traveling to a restricted part of the world is not worth being separated for life. Personally I will echo the words of many here…you should scrap Shanghai, for this year’s trip, and wait until things improve. You are creating incredible content! -so don’t let this one castle haunt you. Hang in there, rest, regroup and go be awesome! Thank you for being a bright light, and hope my words help ease your heart that you made the correct decision.

You absolutely 1000% made the right decision! You and your family’s safety and freedom to return home are most important. God was watching over you with that one plane ticket that was left for you to buy. Always follow your gut instinct. I hope you won’t be going back there and putting yourself in jeopardy. No You Tube video is worth that. I so enjoy the videos you and family make right here at home. Your words of encouragement in each video have helped me through a day on so many occasions. Keep up the great work and stay safe please. 🇺🇸

You made the right call. Safety should be the number one priority always. You have a beautiful family who need you and nothing is worth jeopardizing that. Even if the possibility of being imprisoned is low, DROP Shanghai. I’m still very excited for your 5 castle summer! Also, I love the travel blogs. I say show us all of London and the other locations as well. You guys are awesome. Thanks for taking us along!

Chris, I feel you made a wise choice to return back home. Travel advisories are there to protect travelers and your friend I feel was correct. With the new espionage law in China, the way your logistics would've laid out may have looked suspicious, even so since you're doing videos in a style that's different from the way actual tourists do. I'm glad you and your family are safe and wish you the best on the remaining journey around the world. Thanks for bringing viewers like me with you on your travels and, for your genuine care as well. Looking forward to the castles in Europe, something different from your usual theme park videos. And yes, it gives me a view of a country I haven't been to and I don't know if I'll be able to visit. Aloha and thank you Chris and Provost Parkpass!

I agree with your decision 100%, I'm relived that you did not go to Shanghai, it is very risky to travel to China- especially when your business involves making videos. On the other hand, I would absolutely LOVE to see a vlog about the park in Amsterdam that inspired Walt Disney to build the canal boats attraction in Disneyland. Could you stop there when you go to Paris? Thanks for all you do Chris! I'm glad you are safe.

Those are dice you do not want to roll for any reason. You not only made the correct decision, you made the only sane decision. Shouldn’t even have been a question. “When in doubt, get the fudge out” as the old saying goes. Especially for a U.S. citizen abroad unfortunately. Over time I bet there will be really safe tour guides that can ensure your safety. Or just clear instructions on what not to do that can be trusted.
