Hey everyone! This week's episode is a bit shorter than usual, sorry for that! I'm still struggling to find time to edit since I'm still working on my bachelor thesis... But I thought getting a short episode out there is better than none! Hope you enjoy it anyway! 😊

Cool, thanks for this - amazing what you can find when you search for "van solar wire roof". I'm like you in that I spent 13 years in a commercial RV and wanted to make my own. On Monday, I'm heading on a 870 mile tour to pick up cheap stuff that I found on Ebay! For anyone interested, that box thing that passes the wires from the roof can be found under "Roof wire entry gland box".
You can use a hole saw. Cheaper and easier to drill than large drill bit and claims to make hole on wood and metal. Or get a hole punch but that gets expensive. Plastic grommet is a good option. Using rubber can decay overtime and eventually start allowing wires to rub on sharp edges.
I love this, absolutely brilliant! Fair play to you, the bonus to doing it yourself is any repair/maintenance you no it all inside out. keep up the good work you will be so pleased when you have it finished
Nicely done Lenja, There is a waterproof adhesive and sealant called CT1 Google it. It's far better for sticking caps on the roof it's bonds so water can't get in. I made a note about it from watching another van life channel so I can't take credit. You also should've used a rubber gromit to go around the hole, as over time the wire moving slightly will wear. Keep the videos coming. Oh yeah, wear googles when drilling metal, no fun with metal in your eyes. I know. I have two eye patches lol.
Im loving your channel! I just bought a van recently and Im in the planning phase now. Thank you for documenting everything! I dont feel so lost now :)
As a lifetime 'tool guy' & 'maker' I have mad respect for women who aren't afraid of using power tools & building things. I'm really enjoying watch your build.
PLEASE use goggles when drilling, it's even more risky like that above your head but even when you're drilling a small hole under yourself you should wear glasses. I learned that the hard way and you would too if bits of metal get stuck in your eye and it gets infected. Some more tips that might help: If you have to drill a big hole, let's say 15mm, start with a small drill bit and work your way up, in this case 5mm>10mm>15mm or something like that is usually better. It will drill easier, not catch as much and be more likely to wind up at the center you started at. You might want to brush the little bits of metal from drilling off your roof if you haven't already or they will start to rust and that can actually get through the paint. Clean surfaces with paint thinner or white spirit or acetone before gluing them but give them a very light sand first because it will make for a better bond. It might be ok as it is but if the seal ever fails you'll know what to do. I don't know what glue you used but polyurethane-mastic is great for it(I used to use it at a factory that relied on it for sealing their custom fun fair trailers) and I wouldn't worry about it oozing out the sides a bit because in this case waterproof is more important than pretty. Nice to see the progress, best of luck and be safe :)

What's your thesis on?
No problem with the length here :-) You covered the project step completely so it was just the right length !

Great video. Thanks
OMG where are your goggles.
You don't want to get metal in your eyes. I have, it's not fun.
LOL😂😂😂
Oh good, I'm not the only OHS (OSH in Germany I think) inspector on the channel lol. That was my reaction exactly.
me too , cringing, thinking not those beautiful blue eyes
@Paul Scott excellent point
First thing I thought, too! Goggles please! Especially drilling up into metal.
Yes, you're absolutely right 🙈 I did wear them eventually but AFTER I already got a tiny bit of metal in my eyes. Don't be as stupid as me ☝️🤦
Nice job Lenja.

i like that water seal. hope its held up after this time
Very cool, as always. Looking forward to the next video :)

good video, thanks!
Good job! You are an inspiration!!! Good luck with school. Peace
i think you want the holes facing backwards so water doesnt go in when you driving through rain

How did it go??

Scary drilling with out goggles for protecting those beautiful eyes.
Loving the build and thanks for sharing !
(edit - yep, never mind the earlier pre-edit, you got it covered, I was jumping the gun lol)

Maybe i was sitting next to you in A&E i also had to have a metal splinter taken out of my eye

eye protection!!! Even working with wood you need it. Especially if you are underneath it.
Hi there, Loving the vids and u got to wear some eye protection, good to see how things r going with the build brilliant
_Be sure to label which wire will be pos+ and neg-, this would be a good time to so. Both end, if you have any questions about your solar set up, please ask! Be glad to help in answering your questions._
Does it make a difference drilling from the bottom or from the top?
In my previous two van builds the rubber seals which run the solar wires through leaked badly, so make sure that you seal then up with sikaflex. :-)
Can you tell me the name of the black device that you glue on the roof that has the holes in the side?
Hey, nice video! Which glue did you used?
An all natural Ginger that is handy as well? I’m in love... marry me please.
Join the queue :)
I'm not planning to marry anytime soon but thanks 😀
Even though u broke my heart, I won’t unsubscribe. Just promise me that if ever in Florida u will look me up. Let’s build together.

About 20 years ago i had to go to A&E to have a metal splinter taken out of my eye so Please put on safty goggles
Loved the video but way short.
No safety goggles!
Save your eyes and get a pair of safety glasses.
Will you PLEASE use eye-protection! ( Right, now back to the video )
And here I thought you just stick them through the muffler...
Hello 😀❤️
Nice but get some googles
Omg pls wear eye protection, steel shavings in your eye is no joke
Wear safety glasses
Du bringst es nicht auf die Reihe deine Innenverkleidung zu montieren, deshalb werde ich auch den Rest nicht ernst nehmen
