>calls Reagan libertarian
>didn't even bother mentioning Mises & Rothbard
They were austrian economists.
Not all libertarians are Austrian
E.g. monetorists
Not all austrians are libertarian
E.g. Objectivists
@@messiahshepherd9266 assuming that those people are libertarian, Reagan still doesn't count as one.
@@s.h.6524 I agree Reagan wasn't a libertarian, but he did enjoy Frederick Hayek
@@messiahshepherd9266 doesn't change anything
@@s.h.6524 Hayek wasnt a libertarian anyway. he was a social democrat.
Distribution of land would be socialist. Not Libertarian at all.
SirYeshSir “libertarian” socialism much like “democratic” socialism is just socialism using establish principles to sound appealing
The idea is that the govetnment should not own land. Other than the land their buildings are on. The evils of socialism and redistribution of wealth come from the fact that the authorities use force to take something away from you to redistribute it, but there will be no force involved when libertarian government finds a sufficient way to peacefully redistribute land.
@@dkoda840 actually, the very first people calling themselves libertarians were those very socialists you're speaking of. Tucker called himself an individualist anarchist for example and wrote for "Liberty". Hell, Joseph Déjacque was an anarchist communist and he COINED the term Libertarianism as a political ideology, as before that It was merely a philosophical stance on the nature of free will.
@@GeekOverdose That’s interesting thanks for the info I need to look more into this.
@@GeekOverdose after being used to mean free will
it was used to identify French revolutionists in the 1790's
What a horrible definition of Libertarianism...
Then what is the correct definition to libertarianism?
@@fluffyhamsta could you explain both? i'm simply here to learn.
@@fluffyhamsta thank you for the help, i'll make sure to watch them.
@@jasmine0220 Can you help me out with the same. I'm hell confused with libertarian, socialist, communist and anarchist. They all seem more or less the same. Any links to correct definitation will help.
The BBC's understanding of libertarianism leaves much to be desired.
Eh, the video's less than three minutes; what can you do.
Give actual libertarians like Rothbard and Misses instead of Regan and Thatcher
@@calebf3655 those are not the people representing the title.
@@jasonMontalvo1 Reagan and Thatcher are Neo-libs though not libertarians.
Nozick and Reagan instead of Rothbard?
Reagan was so not a libertarian, fat from it. No libertarian would support the Moral Majority or the drug war.
or the creation of the hughes amendment
Also a true libertarian doesn't want any wars, except obviously in actual self defense.
Lmao, Regan and Thatcher just knew what to say at the time. They were both statists through and through.
Exactly
Where is Rothbard?
In our hearts
Not a word about the non-aggression principle
Thanks for the discount low quality explanation BBC.

It sounds awful
this video is a good example for why media and education shouldnt be left to government funded institutions. This video doesnt explain libertarianism well, the fact that its made by BBC Ideas and is terrible is a good example for it though.
Ironically made by a publicly funded broadcaster everything libertarianism is against
there's tens of thousands of laws in the u.s.
What ism was K because its gone now?
Reagen as a libertarian....
...reagan?? what????
Real libertarianism doesn't want "redistribution of wealth". That's marxism.
Martha facture wasn't a liberal she was a Tory
There is no such thing as a left libertarian, just as there is no such thing as a right authoritarian.
Libertarianism means limited government, you cannot claim to be libertarian if you are advocating the forced redistribution of wealth by the government.
And the hagiographication of Reagan continues.
Amen from taiwan 🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌
Left libertarianism sounds cringe
Yes
No such thing, they're called socialists/communists
2:00 the first use of the word 'libertarian' in reference to a political ideology was by a socialist
Yes, just like the first use of the word 'gender' was synonymous with 'sex'. Your point?
Libertarianism is not left wing in the slightest
So left libertarianism isn’t libertarian then? According to this.
It’s still freedom from the state but
things are redistributed more compared to right libertarianism with private ownership and pro capitalism.
This video did a bad job at explaining right wing and left wing libertarianism
A for effort in trying to explain it
Not all Libertarians are against welfare or public health services, myself included. Both of these things are necessary evils especially now, if the economy improved people wouldn't need to depend on these services as much. You can have a strong economy and freedom as well as looking after the vulnerable.
all this means is you don't understand what libertarianism is.
@@askeladd60 It means that I am not an anti-federalist.
@@LauraTeAhoWhite that has nothing to do with libertarianism. You can't be a libertarian and be in favor of the welfare state.
@@askeladd60 Are you the gate keeper of libertarianism?
@@LauraTeAhoWhite someone has to call out people that label themselves libertarian without understanding what libertarianism is.
I'm glad to see representation being given to left libertarianism.
