Great review, Steven. I’m with you, I think the price point is just a tad high -should be closer to what other plated trainers are. That said, it’s light years above and beyond the Mach 4 -which I like but is largely just a casual shoe for me anymore. I really appreciate the overall fit of Hoka’s shoes and so I’ll probably check these out!
Well most carbon plated shoes are quite a bit more expensive. Really the only other non-carbon plated shoes out there are the Endorphin Speed 3, and some Salomon with the Energy Blade. Thanks, Nick!
NB has its plated trainer at this price point. I just picked up adidas Boston 12’s which technically isn’t a plate, but “energy rods”… $170, so yeah the Mach X is pricing against its own lineup rather than the competition or so it seems. Just my opinion!
So glad you reviewed this one. I love the Mach and have been wanting to add a plated shoe to the rotation, so this should do it. Also will hopefully get a little more durability out of the X with the rubber outsole.
I've had the Hoka Mach X for a couple months now and the only thing I can use it for is recovery runs. It feels too heavy and clunky to do speed work in. I just can't get could turnover like I can other daily trainers. It's odd because It's advertised as a speed trainer but it's really comfortable and works best for me at slower paces. Not one of my favorite shoes especially at the $180 price but I know all people are different.
@@UltraTrailSteven I've heard nothing but good things about the Mach 6 so it's been on my radar for sure. I got the Saucony Triumph 21s coming in this week cuz I got a good deal on amazon for only $103. I am in the market for a good daily trainer this summer
It’s significantly more dynamic than the Saucony endorphin speed. It’s cushioning is somewhere in between the ASICS super blast and the HOKA carbon X2. It’s in the category all by itself and no other shoe company is making anything like this today, yesterday, or in any reps duffle for 24’, … pick your pace pick your surface this is hands-down, the most all in one shoe that’s on the market.
if possible do the march 5 test. Many runners are stating that the running sensation is practically the same between these two models. In this way, march 5 would be a cheaper option because of the excellent foam combination of march 5. Greetings from Brazil 🙌
Another Hoka shoe I am going to wait on… until it gets a decent discount. Great shoe! But the price is just too much right now. Maybe in a year's time? Still enjoying my discounted Clifton 9's and Rincon 3’s anyways.
@@UltraTrailSteven I still keep buying them but I don't like the weight saving coming from the tongue. The hoka challenger series has an awesome tongue but the tecton destroyed my feet. Brilliant vids 👍
Endorphin Speed 3 beats it out in almost every review. I know 10 months later but that seems to be the consensus. It might be comparable to the speed 4 cause I've heard they toned it down quite a bit.
I really wish it was just a liiiiiiittle bit cheaper. I spent a lot of time on the road in the Mach 5, and the Tecton X on the trails; but at this price point I'd rather just get another pair of the Mach 5 (which may go on sale soon) rather than this one. Good vid 😎

Yeah this should be much more durable than the Mach 5 with its CMEVA outsole. Thanks!

Interesting! Maybe try the Mach 6. I really like it and it feels better than the Mach X in my opinion

Yep good point.
Steven, I still love my HOKA Mach 4’s…… the tongue is cushioned also. How would you compare the hoka mach x vs. the mach 4’s or 5’s line ? Thanks 🙂👍
Glad you love the Mach 4! Like I mentioned in the video, this is actually the first Mach I have tested.
this might be might next half marathon shoe.., hmmm. its on the list of 3 possibles
It’s a good choice for sure!

Yeah it’s priced too high!
The thin tongues are awful on the hoka range. Awesome that they've started using a better foam
I did not like the flat tongue on the Rincon 3, the Speedgoat 5, and a few others, but this one works pretty well.

They said that it feels like endorphin speed lineups.
I said it feels like the Endorphin Speed 3 in this video
@@UltraTrailSteven yeah sir but i commented before watching your vid. Hahahahha
Which would you recommend?
@@vtru2743 I much prefer the fit of the Mach X. The ES3 aggravated my achilles, and the Mach X feels bouncier.

Yeah I agree. They seem to be priced a bit too high in my opinion. Great shoes though! Thanks!
