Guinness World Records lists it as the largest church in the world, having surpassed the previous record holder, St. Peter's Basilica,
upon completion.The building architecture is impressive...A must visit!
The Basilica of Our #LadyofPeace (French: #Basilique Notre-Dame de la Paix) is a Catholic minor basilica dedicated to Our Lady of Peace in #Yamoussoukro, the administrative capital of Côte d'Ivoire (Ivory Coast). The basilica was constructed between 1985 and 1989 with different cost estimates given by various groups. Some stated that it cost US$175 million,US$300 million, or US$400 million, ranging as high as US$600 million. The designs of the dome and encircled plaza are clearly inspired by the Basilica of Saint Peter in Vatican City, although it is not an outright replica. The cornerstone was laid on 10 August 1985, and it was consecrated on 10 September 1990 by Pope John Paul II, who had just formally accepted the basilica as a gift from Félix Houphouët-Boigny on behalf of the Catholic Church
La basilique Notre-Dame de la Paix de Yamoussoukro est l’édifice religieux catholique le plus grand au monde. Son apparence rappelle celle de la basilique Saint-Pierre à Rome. Située à Yamoussoukro, capitale de la Côte d'Ivoire, son emplacement a été choisi par le premier président du pays, Félix Houphouët-Boigny, en 1983.
La Basílica de Nuestra Señora de la Paz (en francés Basilique de Notre Dame de la Paix de Yamoussoukro) es un templo católico ubicado en Yamusukro (Costa de Marfil), construido a imagen de la Basílica de San Pedro, en la Ciudad del Vaticano. Es obra del arquitecto libanés Pierre Fakhoury y se la conoce como San Pedro de África. Esta basílica es uno de los templos católicos más grandes del mundo.
A pesar de su tamaño y monumentalidad la Basílica no es una catedral, ya que la cercana Catedral de San Agustín es el principal lugar de culto de la ciudad y sede del obispo de la diócesis de Yamusukro.

Well i can confirm it is the biggest in the all world. The height and weight of this church pass rome by far. Even Google will confirm that.

it was a waste but officially private money so... anyways, Italians are jealous because NDDP took St Peter's record away. Rome wasn't built in a day. It will take time for NDDP to take it's righteous place but it will get there

That money could build well-equiped hospitals, modern schools, industries to the help the poor who are dying of simple malaria and lots of whom are wandering joblessly in Abidjan
@@honoresangwa1000 I think that was the point of the « officially » before private money. I’ve never said it was a smart or efficient or morally right choice. That said, it cost 40 billions CFA not thousand of bilions and I rather have an autocrat stole from us and build a cathedral in my country rather then use it to by mansions in Paris or London.

That said, the most important thing in my opinion is whether the investment alluviate poverty in your home country no matter where you invested. Late Mobutu wasted huge sums of money to build a useless and luxurious palace in Congo but it was later on abandonned and looted!
