      Easy to make a great vid about a great day on even better trails - and these were just the blue trails! Thanks Jules 👊

    If you want an Ebike with a more natural non-Ebike feel, have a go on one of the lightweight Ebikes. I have a Specialized Levo SL and love it. It’s only about 18kg, pedals just fine above the speed cut or off, and will still feels fast and poppy. It won’t blast up fire roads like a full power bike but it just gives you double the range on what you could do on a normal bike.
    Derby is pretty special. I live in Tassie and would get in 3 or 4 Derby trips a year. Never disappoints!

      Thanks Streddaz. I certainly need several more demon days to really decide what sort of eeb will suit. Ive since ridden a lighter eeb and found it under powered and under braked - but one bike does not a category. Ive recently bought a new Amish bike, an eeb will have to wait a bit longer = time to teat and ride 👍🏼
      Derby being special, thats an under statement. I loved it!!

      @@malmtb I still have a normal MTB and will do for some time yet. I ride that when riding with others non-Ebikes groups, but the SL is my pick for solo rides or if there’s other Ebikes. My SL is the first generation 1.1 motor, which is pretty light on power, but I’m fine with that.

    Great video thanks. Do remember that good battery management is very much part of what E bike riders do. Super hard renting a bike and making range assumptions. I love my donkey.... Would love to go here and try out these trails myself.

      No one regrets riding Derby - No one!
      Battery management - yeah, I knew my mistake pretty early but for my first day on an eeb - it was just too much fun to hold myself back from 🤣

      These personal subjective opinions are incorrect. Although to be fair, a light short travel trail bike might have been the best option for most of the trails you picked.

    • @malmtb
      @malmtb  Год назад +1

      @@RideyRodney Ha ha, no perfectly fair - I accept my subjective opinion my be wrong compared to other personal subjective opinions. 🤣
      Shorter travel lighter bike for the trails, maybe, but I needed the eBike just to get to the trails I picked.
      It was deliberately an XC day. I had no PPE and a two weeks family vacation in front of me - an injury wouldn't be fair on my wife so I did play it a little safe. Hatching plans to maybe go back next year for a mate's 50th. Maybe you or Dave can teach me to jump before that??????

    Well done mate. My only recommendation is to take full advantage of the shuttles when you can. How sick is the end of return to sender? Derby is just on another level to anywhere else. Cheers.

    • @malmtb
      @malmtb  Год назад +1

      Very true - Derby is next level. And Return to Sender was awesome!
      Shuttles, well??? I had one day at the start of a two week family holiday and no PPE. Concentrating on gravity trails and increasing the chance of getting injured and wrecking a family vacation - avoiding shuttles was my mitigation strategy. We had a great two weeks in Taz!
      Thanks Parker. I know you enjoyed your time in Derby also.

    Great video. Thanks for sharing. Derby is definitely on my bucket list 👌 As for ebikes....they're not for everyone but my Cube Stereo 160 emtb has given me more confidence and ability to do more trails than I would normally with dodgy knees 🤙

      And one day I’ll joining you there (eBike not sore knees hopefully). Its worth the effort to get to Blue Derby, give yourself more than one day though!!!! Cheers Shred-her

    Yeah if you're planning on 42km ride, don't start in Boost :) I'd probably lower trail mode to 50% and use that uphill, with ECO on flatter terrain.
    As for feeling samey, I think you need more challenging trails. That looked pretty XC for a lot of it. Maybe it's just GoPro effect, I dunno. Winching up and bombing down gnarly stuff is what these things are for. If you're not interested in gnarlier trails, then a steam bike probably is going to be better. Did you maybe just hit the boredom of being overbiked? Then again it could just be the Rail...
    I had a top-tier Rail and didn't really rate it, not sure what the fuss what about with the stellar reviews. It was a pig, felt like a big burly enduro bike but with trail-sized travel. Would make more sense at 170mm that bike. There is a big difference in handling feel even amongst the heavy full fat ebikes, I've had bunch. My current is a Rocky Mountain Altitude Powerplay and it's the best so far, more agile feeling and nimble than the Rail with more travel. Don't be afraid of more travel on a full fat, it's how it should be, and it doesn't need to make it feel like a pig.
    Edit: didn't realise how old this vid was, it just popped up! :)

    • @malmtb
      @malmtb  2 месяца назад +1

      Well Im glad it popped up. This one seems popular
      Overbiked for the trails - yep 👍🏼. Doing gnarly trails with a skid lid and a wife waiting at the hotel ready to kill me if I came back with even a limp day 2 of a two week holiday guided trail choice.
      Boost uphill - well, it was too much fun and for my first day on an eBike, I knew no better 🤣. With an eBike I wouldn't have got to Atlas. And if getting an eBike for my 1 day in Derby - overbiking seemed a minor consideration
      I had a ball this day. Thanks for watching 🤟
