    I have been a fan of Andrew Wyeth since I was in High School (1970's) so I was absolutely delighted to have Victoria be my tour guide for a trip I made to the River Museum some years ago. I was not local to the museum so to be so lucky to have Andy's granddaughter talk about his work from direct memory (either watching or having him relate stories of the work) was just beyond words. Watching this video instantly brought back the memory of her strong personality and general high level of energy. I had to laugh about the MoMA story, as I've heard for some time that there were certain people in leadership positions at MoMA over the years who did not care for "Christina's World". I made a trek to NYC about a month ago and dragged my older brother along because I told him wanted to see "Christina" in person again after all these years. It was everything I had hoped it would be, it was like seeing an old friend and no one there said they didn't like it.

    She's pretty awesome. And she has the same sparkling eyes and expressive mouth as Andy did when she's speaking.

    I thought Victoria's insights into this great artist were very honest and thoughtful. Her perspective is unique because of her relationship and her education. So thanks.

    I just wanted to say that we did the tour in July of 2009 with Vicky and she was great to have as a tour guide.
    We were cautioned at the beginning not to ask any personal questions, and it wasn't until the end of the tour that I had the opportunity to ask her about Peter Hurd, her uncle, and his painting of Lyndon Johnson, and how Johnson hated the painting.
    The other thing which I, as an artist, appreciated was when Vicky said that Andy had been painting right up until shortly before his death...that, to me, was incredibly motivational to hear.
    Thanks Vicky.

    I had the pleasure of meeting Victoria at the Brandywine River museum a few years ago. She is one of the coolest women I have met and that brief encounter left an impression on me. When I was discharged from the Navy the Brandywine was one of the first places I went because N.C. Wyeth was one of the greatest illustrators of the golden age of illustration and I ended up getting Jamie Wyeth and Andrew Wyeth's work in the bargain. If you are a Wyeth fan the Brandywine is the greatest museum in the country.

    Love this interview. Gah, she's someone I could see myself hanging out with---fun, funny, engaging--very cool. Just what I hoped the personality of the Wyeth family to be.

    Love her commentary on art historians. My sentiments exactly.

    • @anodyne57
      @anodyne57 4 года назад

      But realize that there are also many art historians who DO get it, and don't make the mistake of projecting onto the artist motives that they don't know about.
      BTW, there are artists who in fact do think symbolically and who represent in their work aspects that may not visible to the viewer, and which ironically might escape the notice or understanding of historians and critics.
      It's essential that a critic, as is the case with the exemplary Hans Ulrich Obrist, make the effort to do thorough face-to-face interviews with the artist themselves before attempting to describe or respond to the artist's work.

    She does not want to interpret the work of her grandfather. She wants to limit it to its craft. Her mother is right.
