She needs to learn from Nadal, whenever ppl behind the opponent are still getting seated, Nadal just walks away from the baseline and turns away holding his racket up so opponent knows he isn’t playing yet
@@Lol-ej2uh She is, but Collins is the type that can defeat anyone, Swiatek included, if she's in the zone. When you have that kind of power, no one, not even Iga, is beyond your best.
This is taken straight from Nadal’s playbook. I was surprised she didn’t also summon Collins to the net and give her some breathing advices… but I guess Collins wouldn’t take them as well as Sonego did
@Khepri this is really where tennis should set a rule. Playing at the server's pace is right but it should be reasonable as well. Like you said. You went to the net to hit a volley shot. Does that mean that you have to run like crazy just so you within the server's "pace"????? Reasonable time!! Maybe they should implement time limit for returners as well. But I agree that Iga is already in position or should have called umpire or collin's attention rather than let collins do the whole motion.
The returner is to play at the server’s pace… BUT within reason. The server cannot rush to serve before their opponent is able to walk over and get ready. Also, if the returner wants to towel off the server cannot prevent them from doing that. It’s definitely a gray area. But HERE, when the returner is clearly not ready and holds up their racquet (or otherwise indicates they’re not ready to the server and/or umpire prior to the serve), a let is played and the server will take another serve. This is well understood in tennis but can lead to controversy. See the notorious Henin vs. Williams French Open hand-up debacle.
@Khepri the actual rule is that he can serve whenever he wants and if you make a move for it and try to touch the ball then it’s his point but if you don’t move at all and put your racket up/turn away then you replay the point. That’s the rule for USTA, ATP, and ITF tournaments
@@ryanwhite4487 Players actually do this on purpose to slow down the servers momentum. Especially if the server is winning. It’s a method used to break timing and get the server flustered. She was there and she was in position but Iga just wanted to slow Collins down
I'm guessing she was kind of ready, but there was someone moving behind Collins' back and she wanted to wait till they were seated. But even she had stood right there, Collins wasn't even looking at her. 😄😄
This is stupid. The server has reign over the pace of play. If she is not ready she cannot get into position to return, or has to contact the umpire. I share Collins’ frustration.
Iga did the same thing in her entire Roland garros matches , she always breaks her opponents concentration before they serve , and no one seems to say anything to her
AS WRITTEN, the rule does not specify that the receiver must play to the speed of the server. That is an unwritten rule and a long-held tradition. The actual rule AS WRITTEN vaguely specifies that both players must be ready in a reasonable amount of time.
there is nothing to get after thats why????????? the server cant be serving like a machine gun either....there is grey area in the "play at the pace of the server" if the server is going to fast.
well she makes a bad habit of doing it to everyone she plays now a days she has no respect when any of her opponents are serving on vital points hopefuly youtube or someone puts up hightlights of iga s bad sportmanship
She does this tactic as a matter of routine prior to nearly EVERY serve! It’s as though she’s trying to dictate/intimidate the speed of the server to her willingness to get ready. Her opponents should just keep serving at their pace, and at some point, the umpire would have to tell “IGA” to knock it off and concede the pace of play to the server. Or conversely, when she’s serving, use the same annoying tactic or something similar, and see how she likes it! Bet not…
