Curtain looks great. I wish you had put the battery tray and stashed logo one on each side of the locks in the gray concrete area. The Clear plastic was a great idea also. Can't wait to see more... loving the garage build series.
Finally writing a comment on your video 🙈 Watching you since the start, since 2016! I was 19 years old and grew up with your vlogs Ali! Happy to see the progress that you reached! Keep it up mate!
Storing your bike vertically is quite good for suspension, it lets oil rest around the seals and further up the stanchions than if stored on flat ground, which keeps the fork better lubricated for the initial moments of a ride. :)
The Bike Cave is looking Absoluely Fantastic Ali ! - I am seriously impressed with how it's turning out. And with the Stashed storage solution - I have been looking for just tis exact thing to store my 3 bikes.
The space is coming together nicely. Painting changed it a lot. Some stuff I thought about watching this: A simple non rotating hook also gives you the option to hang your bike facing front or back, you just have to hang it up facing the correct way to begin with. Once you put up more than 2 bikes you won't have the space to rotate them anyway so quite limited use to that function but it doesn't hurt either I suppose. On the topic of storing bikes like this, I believe if you have the front wheels facing up it's even beneficial. On suspension forks this will result in oil sitting on the seals which will lubricate the foam rings which is quite a positive thing.
Yeah good point, in a condensed space like this once I fill it rotating them won’t be possible but it’s definitely nice to have the option. I’m not really sure start the gain would be from having a non-rotating one is though…may as well just use one of these hooks and choose which way round to have the bike like you mentioned
Looking nice Ali! I'm looking at moving to a new place in a slightly more dodgy neighborhood and plan to upgrade my bike and tool security, partly for insurance and partly for my own peace of mind. I'll give your sponsors a look, thanks for sharing the info and appreciate the content.
As someone who has stored their bikes vertically for several years now, brakes and suspension aren't an issue but dropper posts are... I couldn't get one to last a full season till I went over to a a Bike Yoke Revive that allows you to flush air that has gotten into the system.
It's not going to damage your suspension, quite the opposite when it comes to the fork. Hanging your bike like this will cause the lubricating oil to flow past the bushings all the way to the wipers, soaking the foam rings. Darren Murphy of Push Industries actually said an excellent suspension performance hack is to turn your bike upside down at the top of the climb, before descending, to oil your fork. This essentially does the same.
I wish I had seen this before making my setup. I didn’t realise there was a packaged solution, but also being on the other side in NZ, I made mine with barn door style rolling joinery and park tool 8mm bike hooks. Nice tip about spinning bike so handle bars against wall. Very nice setup you have!
I bet Baz Keep doesn't worry about tyre marks on his garage walls. But seriously, top system there Ali, with your usual meticulous attention to detail. Nice work...
Storing a bike long term isn’t great for it anyway, but I stored one of my bikes vertically for over a year and the oil leaked out of the front suspension. I noticed it and fixed it before riding, but if I hadn’t noticed I could have ruined the fork. Just be careful
Those lock anchors went on the wall too easy which makes me think how easy it would to pull them out. When I installed my anchor to the floor I had to use a big hammer drill because the concrete was so hard. Hope it works out for you if anything bad happens.
I’d have to agree, might go and get some slightly bigger screws and get it a bit tighter…I wonder if my drill bit was too big or the wall too soft for the supplied bolts…either way I think it can be improved and made more secure
Shop is looking fantastic, tho you're gonna have a hell of a time color grading and white balancing video footage now hahaha. Looks a bit like a hospital. I know its a bit late, but i think a 2-color stripe (Orange and blue maybe?) would look good halfway down the wall all the way around, to add some contrast to the space and give your camera something to work with.
Yes good point and something I’ve only realized once I came to edit this video! In reality once I fit more things in here and it gets more character from being used it should become less clinical and the white balance less of an issue…if not then I’ll add some colour 🤘🏻
Really enjoyed watching this, garage is looking mint - especially given how it was before! I’m looking for a bike storage solution as we’ve just moved house so will definitely check Stashed out now 👍🏻
I love the way your bike cave is turning out Ali. I am keen on checking out the track storage system you used but the link is not working. Great segment Sir. I am stoked to see how this project will turn out. Cheers
Nice one! The curtain was from a company I’ve completely forgotten the name of sorry! I just googled custom curtain and this welding supplier was up near the top if that helps?
I was very nervous putting my brand new beach cruiser on this rack. ruclips.net/user/postUgkxG6JIgwJhur8_Rg8UeQ3EmePzi_wSncL8 But after reading many reviews I decided to get this one and take a chance. When arrived it was very simple to adjust and put together. I also added spike tape over the metal hooks before securing and tightening the straps, and no scratches. I also purchased the top bar made by the same company so that my cruiser sits straight on the rack without having to turn upside down. Extra bungee cords are used to secure the front wheel from flapping and even piece of mind knowing your bike is secure. Definitely recommend...
I can always reinstate it but from previous experience filming in this space with the window it often made it very hard to be consistent with lighting…I could use a blind but I think I’d just end up with it constantly down. This is way more secure too. You might be right though, I’ll live with it for a few solid months and if I miss the window I’ll just cut out the ply and get it back.
The storage looks awesome but why as a company are they charging £60 extra for each hook. £159 with 4 hooks I would have snatched there hand off but maybe it's just me being tight 😄
Sadly with them being made in the UK it’s naturally going to cost a little bit more but it’s great to see some industry happening in the UK so I think it’s worth it
To be honest, it feels quite cold, impersonal. It's too modern and perfect. I like old style workshops, a bit of tools lying around, a workbench that has seen a lot. Just a little messy, but cozy. But what I like is not important. The main thing is that you like it. Good luck!
I totally get what you mean but the used workshops with stains, blemishes and a worn-in-feel were new and shiny at one point haha. I’m sure once I’ve got my workbench, tools and a few bikes built it’ll start to feel less clinical :)
Got to say that bike storage it actually is looking really nice and neat 👌
Thank you! I’ve tried hard this time 😂
@@Ali_Clarkson whats the dimension of your garage?
Looks like a super clean set up, well done. Will seriously consider the stacked system as an upgrade to fixed hooks.
Thanks nice one, would be awesome if you used my link if you do 🤘🏻
The whole back area looks really smart and the curtain is the cherry on top
So stoked on that area!
I love how you can rotate the bike on the hook. Very nice setup!
Yeah I’m a big fan of that feature!
the curtain is a very nice touch, logo makes it so cool!!!
Thank you!
Absolute bike garage goals, I’d add a bungee cord wall mounted for securing the curtain open!
Ah of course! I was thinking of ways to secure it and completely forgot bungee cords existed 😂
Looks awesome!!! Working on bikes is going to be a huge pleasure when you're finished!!
Thanks! I can’t wait😊

Thank you :) I did consider putting the tray in the recess but it would’ve definitely been messier with the cables etc

Ah even better then!
@@Ali_Clarkson It's also a great way to find out if you need new seals because they'll leave a nice puddle on the floor. 😁
Boy, was I looking forward to this video! Garage is looking dope dude! Good call on trimming the cupboard door, I'd have done the same. Sweeeeet ✌🏼
Thanks dude :)

Thank you very much!
That's awesome. It's going to be great for your videos, the lighting is perfect.
Thanks very much :)
Looking really good . When I think back to how the garage looked at the beginning it’s a amazing transformation 👍
Thanks 👍
I love clever and high quality storage solutions, so I found this satisfying. It was also funny to see you zip lining across the room!
Had to be done 😂

cleanest bike rack ever. beats random hooks on studs :)

Tbf DIY is fun but when I first saw this system I knew I had to have it, I’m lucky I got it for free but I would’ve bought it if I had to 😂
@@Ali_Clarkson it still surprises me how dense I can pack the bikes. It’s by far the best way to store bikes that get used all the time.
I have to say that is pretty neat.
Thanks very much 😊
Nice job!

You’re welcome :)

Haha it does!

Great to see the progress, the cave is looking bright and tight!... Love the shirt too-- your design?
Thanks very much!

wow Ali, looks soo good

On the topic of suspension. Would storing it this way let oil run to the seals making them more plush?
That seems to be what people are saying…unless you have an upside down fork 😋
Have you considered adding an air vent?
Yes, I actually have one I just need to fit it 👍🏻

12:40 Don't cut it off! Jeez mate, so destructive... just push the rail a few centimetres to the left lol...too late
