I am proud to say I am pure Sicilian on both sides of my family with both my Parents from Sicily in two different towns nearby each other. I went to Sicily initially in 1962 to see my Grandparents and relatives and my grandparents who were born in the 1800s. The island is breathtaking! The Sicilians are extremely friendly like their sister island of Malta. But the MOUNTAINS of Sicily are beyond words!!!! The Sicilian people are the best dressed of all nations I visited. They are a proud people with dignity and culture. I speak Italian and Sicilian and Love the Marionette shows I saw in Palermo I was there again in 2002. This time I was able to be more insightful, because I was older. I studied Ancient, Medieval and Modern Sicily. It was once a Greek nation, and then Arabic in Culture. It was once Greek speaking and the Arabic speaking and it had many MOSQUES that were completely destroyed as it became Christianity.There were many wars and many nations wanted Sicily as they were jealous of her beauty. There is much to study about this gorgeous island and she suffered many wars, throughout history. I yearn someday to return again to my Beloved Sicily and when I do never to depart from her again. As a little girl, I always wished I could travel the world and it came true when my oldest son worked for the airlines and I had the opportunity to see many countries. I hope all who read this have your dreams come true as well.!
