I just wanted to say how unique this song is and It hit me so hard because i understand so much what they are going through and it’s hard a lot of people insult us for who we are and try to change us and i just think its a bunch of bs so please if anyone who is going through something like this don’t be afraid to stand up for yourself!
Wow! This is so powerful! I sadly grew up to feel ashamed of my language…..although my dad is fluent in our language….I know nothing! This inspires me to feel pride, in learning 🧡
So glad I found your song. I heard it on the YT doc: The 3 Spanish Ontario Indian Residential Schools: St. Peter Claver, St. Joseph's & Garnier Schools by Jaguar Bird. Very moving. Took a while to find you but the journey was worth it. Learning about Rita Joe and so many poor children put through abuse and repression. So many similarities with what the Irish and Welsh peoples too. Unfortunately cultures are still being quashed to this day. No one should be forced to change the culture of their ancestors or force it on others that have other traditions but rather share them and become richer by doing so.
