Your handwriting and drawings are so organized and neat and you’re amazing at explaining things. Thank you very much I’m taking my final tomorrow!! 😭🙏🏼
This was my report in High School (Around 2015) I remember giving up because I was lazy to scan and read my references. I thought to myself, "What if there was a RUclips video which is EXACTLY about my report?" And then I found this Thank you Mr. Byrd for saving my life AND still giving me the sufficient content that I needed 5 years later, I still remember everything that you've tackled in the vid You really are a great and efficient teacher Thank you!!
Excellent explanation of essential content! After watching this and students taking notes on it, a middle school student could easily teach this lesson. Although Crash Course is excellent, John Green could take a lesson in slowing down a bit. :-)
Wow I really enjoyed this history lesson.I am a visual person the drawings really helped me to understand what enlightenment is all about, and I am in school. Thank you it was Awesome!!
Funny how an 11 Minute RUclips video with a (likely) very low budget did a better job of teaching me about the Enlightenment than 3 weeks of Global History Classes.
There’s more to the social contract. Our part as citizens is to give up some of our rights, and in return, we get protection from the government. That’s the contract.
I am currently going to school to be a history teacher. I just wanted to personally thank you for all these videos!! They are great for brushing up on my historical content. Beyond that, you're lessons are easy to follow and are super fun with the added animation! So thank you a lot these are really helping me prepare for my full semester of student teaching.
Sir, I don't know where your from and who you are but your an absolute prime example of an ideal professor. I'm a junior in college and I have a history final in 5 hours. This video has been so helpful!
Mr. Byrd, your handwriting is AMAZING. I thank you so much. When my teachers have bad handwriting while lecturing, it sometimes frustrates me so much that I lose focus of what they’re teaching.
Just found this. I really like how you're drawing and chatting. Your information is concise and clear! and you go back and give a way to remember! Wow!!!! thx for posting your work!!!
Mr. Byrd , you are loved and appreciated for your clear and simple explanations. I will now have to find literature about these philosophers but you gave me an amazing head start.
This is just wonderful! It’s exactly what I want to understand, that period, and it’s so simply done here. This is my learning style, whatever you want to call it!
I have always thought I was stupid but ever since I realized I needed visual learning because of this video, I have realized I can actually learn things again and I want to thank you for this video. Thank you so much
I need u as my teacher wow, my history teachers jumps from one subj to another and don't even finish what she started and it leads us lost. I love how u break it down 🙌
I was trying to find vids that would explain Enlilghtenment thinkers for a few days now and i came across this and i should i found this earlier. This is so clear and easy to underStand. Thank you. Thanks for the methods to remember these guys.
Someone teaching philosophy saying all kings were absolute and would "tell people what to do" is insane tbh. Most monarchs, especially in pre-modern times, were not and couldn't be absolute rulers. And current states are the most absolutist ones, but justifiably so since they're representative democracies.
Re-watching this to study for my Enlightenment test tomorrow! This is so helpful, the little tips to remember each of the people is such a huge help. Thank you for this!!
An excellent lesson delivered with great pacing, imagination and clarity. As a visual learner the visual prompts really helped to bring the message home. Thank you.
Thank you so much Mr. Byrd you teach so well! You explained things in 11 minutes that i could understand something that in school took me the whole year. XD
I learned of these guys in highschool, though at the time found it hard to understand what was so special for. Started learining more about the founding fathers like Thomas Jefferson and learn more about how revolutionary these were in practice. This video though is a great summary of key Enlightenment figures. Very clear and great visual aids.
This was very helpful! I am having to write an essay for my first Exam in American History and I choose the Enlightenment and who played important parts, and this Video was extremely convenient and fit my learning style. Everything that I learned already, was summed up into pictures and it all clicked and made more sense. Thank you!
Interestingly enough, The social contract would be a secularization of the Protestant Christian covenant theory that came through Calvin and the reformed Christians. You can see a lot of this work in Calvin's expositions of the book of Exodus. Samuel Rutherford in his work Lex Rex is a puritan expression with a bi-covenantal idea attached (the british expression of an earlier expression in vindicae contra tyrannos, likely written by Philippe de Monray. What is utterly important, is that we do not think that many of these Ideas originated in these men here on the board, but rather, that they give particular expressions of already existing Ideas in history (Greece and Rome) yet, without a ultimate objective and universal basis (God) which was a European move away from the history of Christianity that build the west to this point. I'll share my opinion here. The enlightenment thinkers do not get away from religion. They are still utterly religious. They simply exchange theology ideas of God as the center and replace it with 'anthropology' at the center. Which has led us to sad times in our day.
If I could improve this video, I would end with a wide shot of the entire graphic so students could examine the way the elements fit together for summary.
You presentations are really great when you draw them as you go. I have my students follow along and draw the pictures just like you when we review the Enlightenment thinkers. GREAT!
You taught me more in 12 minutes than my teacher did in a span of a couple days. Thank you so so much, hopefully I do well on my test tomorrow. This really helped !:)

The french flag back then didn't look like the contemporary one we see today. Although, either way it was wrong.
Thank you for this video! Very helpful for me to have visual versus reading from a textbook. So much easier to understand when its simplified!
Nice vid but please check out what a French flag looks like...
What he drew was the french flag BEFORE they joined the EU, not the new one that has the vertical lines.
Oh, wait, nevermind. The old one is the flag with vertical lines. The flag he drew was the netherlands one.
