    as an In flames fan of both modern and old In flames is this their best album ever right now In my opinion, maybe changes, idk.
    But like I love this album.
    No single bad song, even that my least favorite is the last track on the album but it's still great!
    So right now my top 3 albums by In Flames is
    1. forgone
    2. Sounds of a playground fading
    3. clayman
    And Anders sounds better then ever on this album.
    Like damnnn wanna hear all songs live!

    My most listened album this year. It sure brings back the classic Gothenburg melodeath sound we love, but also keeps the alt/ metalcore style they've been experimenting with in the last few albums, which I don't like much (I, The Mask had a few bangers though), but they did it tastefully on this album. Anders' clean singing improved a lot and I think his voice is great.
    This album isn't exactly what I've hoped for, but man it delivered and I truly enjoy all of the songs.
    I'd give it 8/10 after a month of listening and I think it's definitely their best since Come Clarity.

    Dude, great reaction vid! I think you absolutely nailed it with a lot of your comments, too!
    I listened to the singles as they came out, and State of Slow Decay was of course amazing, and I really liked the others as well. Then listened to the entire album when it was released, and I was like, "meh, there are a couple of good songs here, but that's it". But I listened to it a couple more times, because like you say, it needs to marinate a bit! Did the same thing with A Sense of Purpose, where I also immediately didn't vibe with many of the songs. But sometimes you need to listen a few times, and let it sit a bit, before you *get* the song!
    Now one of my absolute favourites on this album is A Dialogue In B Minor, which is one of those I dismissed the first couple of times I heard it. ;)
    Also interestingly, this is the second video today I've seen on this album that somehow mentions the idea that metal vocalists shouldn't do clean vocals, and that somehow that's not metal, and it absolutely baffles me! (In the other video it was the actual youtuber pretty much saying that...) Yet there is so much amazing metal out there with clean vocals! If people are just listening to metal with growling/hard vocals, they're omitting like 80% of the entire metal genre. Or are they saying bands Metallica or Dragonforce isn't metal? I'm stumped. xD

    • @KrimsonMatt
      @KrimsonMatt  Год назад +1

      Thanks a lot man. I really appreciate your kind words. I think there is a brand of metal fan (kinda like I used to be) that does not like when bands "experiment". They are metal purists and want their favorite band to maintain their "current" sound and just improve upon it.
      The problem with this is, creativity can be really fluid. (I know this because I write music).
      It's like Naughty Dog ONLY making uncharted for the rest of their lives. That's essentially what metal purists want. But if Naughty dog didn't experiment, they wouldn't have ever made The Last of Us.

    • @TheCreativeKobold
      @TheCreativeKobold Год назад

      Yeah, that's exactly it! And I'm sure I've had periods of my life where I thought the same way about something, myself. It's probably a bit human nature, until you start thinking of people(including artists) complexely.
      And yeah, TLoU was an absolute masterpiece of video game storytelling, which arose from breaking a bit out of the mold!
      I'm a creative person myself, and getting locked into any one thing is basically the death of creativity. Creativity needs the freedom to explore what it wants. Which is why you see all these artists having side projects completely different from their "main band". Or why you see other bands, like In Flames, do new stuff every one or two albums.
      Cheers, man! :D

    comparing this album conceptually to the previous few albums there is a change in focus on the lyrics and i think the whole focus on the album and tone. this album seems to be commentary on the state of the world and how that effects us. Covid 19 and the Russian invasion of Ukraine i think impacted their creative process as well as having new members and production.

    As a longtime In Flames fan, this album is the best they've done in well over a decade. If I were to put it on a tier list, B tier, but damn near A tier. If it ends up being an album I come back to a lot, definitely A tier. The only thing that stops it from being A tier right off the bat is Pure Light of Mind. Everyone seems to like that song, but it's bland and cheesy (in a bad way) to me. Every other song had great moments in it. Even Cynosure, which you seemed not to like as much, but I loved the atypical time signature they used.

    Good album! The main problem allthough is that the outstanding singles are the best. And as expected/feared from my side, these rest is mostly clean singing on the rest of the album... Very disappointed in that, cause most of the other songs is meh. Not bad at all, but too less of the other great screaming energetic songs. My favourite is probably Foregone part 1.
    Anyways, enjoyed listen to and watching your video 👍 Cheers man!

    Anders was never a good singer tho. That's the thing. Live he sings off key and can't hold any notes. He has a decent tone of voice, but can't utilize it. That's where studio editing comes in handy. He has amazing screams tho. One of my favourite harsh vocals in metal. That's why I was kinda disappointed, when most of the songs had alot of clean vocals. The album has grown on me since those couple of days, but I'd still prefer like 70% of those cleans to become screams. Instrumentally this album is great. I can't complain here, cause they definitely delivered. Overall Foregone sits in the middle on my In Flames albums tier list. Not close to TJR, Whoracle, Colony and Clayman, but beating last 4 albums by a landslide. I MIGHT like it more, than STYE aswell. Not sure yet. Gotta listen to it more.

    • @KrimsonMatt
      @KrimsonMatt  Год назад +2

    • @tylersmith2849
      @tylersmith2849 Год назад +4

      I've heard him sing live. He sounds fine. Just way to many people are stuck in the 90s with those early records. The second they hear him come in with cleans "oh this sucks its not Whoracle or TJR." Like enough with that shit already. Move on with your lives like In Flames has DECADES AGO."

    • @RunninWithMos
      @RunninWithMos Год назад +2

      @@tylersmith2849 If you're a #1 fan no matter what, then sure, he might sound fine to you. To me his singing live is not even close to good. It's like denying that Corey Taylor sounds like a dying goat, when he sings for slipknot, after destroying his vocal cords not properly growling. Ahhh 9.0:live... now that was a disappointment on another scale. But back to In Flames. Why do you make an assumption on others, that they have to be attached to oldest stuff if they don't like it? Some don't like his cleans, and like screams, some the other way around, some love older stuff, some newer. That's a music taste. I started listening to IF maybe like 2 years before ASOP dropped. First songs I ever heard were The Quiet Place and Trigger. I got my hands on TJR and Whoracle few years after and they just blew my mind. That was exacly what I was looking for. More of his screams and crazy guitar harmonies. Also unpopular opinion... I really liked ASOP.

    • @tylersmith2849
      @tylersmith2849 Год назад +1

      @RunninWithMos I make that assumption because people that complain about his cleans always bring up how good the old 90s melodeath albums are. And they are good but hearing how good those albums are it gets repetitive and annoying. They arent going to do that sound anymore, they are pushing 50 and people expect them to play the same shit they played when they were in their 20s? For example the old In Flames sound is scattered through out this album on the guitars just with a more modern take and people shit on it. What do you want?!?!?!? If you don't like the album simply because he sings clean that a ridiculous short sighted complaint.

    Dont want to sound like a metal elitist, but this album is way over rated. The clean vocals are whinny and weak. Strange muddy production so ruins the guitars. This is not a return to their old sound. This is not melo-death. This is not classic in flames. To be fair, this is their best album after clayman, but thats not saying much. I give it a 4/10.
